I Became a Girl
I became a girl.
On a day no different from any other, I woke up to find myself transformed into a beautiful young woman. Shoulder-length black hair. A face pretty enough to pass for an idol without anyone batting an eye. The reflection in the mirror looked like someone who'd turn heads just walking down the street.
It wasn't only my body that had changed. My phone had been completely wiped clean, too — not that it mattered much. I didn't really keep in touch with anyone personally. And on my ID card was a name I'd never seen before.
Cha Yerin. That was my new name.
Even after becoming a woman, not much had actually changed. I'd hole up in my room watching internet streams on the computer, and once I got tired enough, I'd flop into bed and fall asleep. A whole week had already passed like that.
Today, I decided to have a highball for the first time in a while. I wasn't much of a drinker, but for some reason I felt like having one. I pulled the last can from the fridge, sat down at my desk, and turned on the computer. A few clicks of the mouse later, the familiar sound of my usual stream filled the room.
As luck would have it, the streamer was about to start a newly released dating sim.
"Oh, this came out? I've been waiting for it."
A few hours later, the protagonist in the game was receiving a confession from the heroine.
I want to fall in love too...
Back in elementary and middle school, I'd been too young to think about dating. In high school, I'd been too busy prepping for college entrance exams to have the time. And before I knew it, I was a university student. Only now, I'd become a woman.
Of course, I had no intention of dating a man. Just because my body had changed didn't mean my preferences had.
Could I even date a girl...?
Sure, attitudes toward same-sex relationships had improved lately — but it still wasn't easy. You can't exactly come out to someone the moment you meet them.
"...Ugh."
Well, what else could I do? Guess I'd just live alone.
