Chapter 61: He Has What You Don’t
He was born with immense strength, and with a single strike, he shattered the massive bed into pieces, scattering it mid-air.
But as soon as the bed was gone, another figure rapidly grew larger in his vision, closing in on him in an instant.
Nian Songyu barely had time to raise his shield to block before he was sent flying three zhang away with a loud *bang*.
He scrambled to his feet and finally saw that the one who had ambushed him was a black demon ape.
Even hunched over, it stood seven chi tall, its body covered in exaggerated, bulging muscles that seemed ready to burst.
Its small eyes glowed with a red light, and its body was hairless, covered in what looked like a black rocky shell.
Cracks of varying widths ran across its surface, with dark red liquid flowing through them like molten lava.
The demon ape wasn’t satisfied yet.
It charged at Nian Songyu on all fours, and as it got close, it swung its massive arms down with terrifying force.
Nian Songyu crouched and raised his shield in front of him.
The ape’s fist slammed into the shield with a loud *clang*.
The shield toppled, but there was no one behind it.
Having learned his lesson, Nian Songyu had already sidestepped and appeared behind the ape.
With a swift motion, he swung his blade and severed its head!
The move was quick and precise, a killing technique honed on the battlefield.
He didn’t waste a single ounce of energy, and even he was pleased with himself.
No matter the monster, whether man-made or natural, the vital spot was usually the head.
But the headless demon ape staggered for two steps, yet it didn’t fall.
Instead, it bent down, picked up its own head, and reattached it to its neck.
The molten lava-like substance flowed between the head and neck, and within two or three breaths, its head was fully reattached.
The red light in its eyes reignited.
This thing… couldn’t be killed?
Just then, Nian Songyu heard Sun Fuping calling out to him, “Be careful! Fall back!”
One after another, demon apes burst out from the ruins, charging toward them.
Nian Songyu beheaded two more, this time with a faint green glow on his blade.
Clearly, he had activated his Sheji Token.
As a military general, his aura was strong enough to suppress evil spirits and break through many supernatural abilities.
However, these demon apes, even after being beheaded or cut in half, only slowed down for a moment before reattaching their heads and coming back for more.
The Sheji Token, which had always been invincible, was now being suppressed.
Nian Songyu finally realized the gravity of the situation. “Grand Preceptor, this isn’t working!”
He was also injured, with a deep gash on his left arm that exposed bone.
The flesh around the wound was charred black.
The demon ape’s claws were not only razor-sharp but also scorching hot, like branding irons.
When the first demon ape had pummeled him, Sun Fuping had already scattered a few beans on the ground.
By the time the other apes attacked, the beans had grown into golden-armored soldiers, each standing a zhang tall.
These giants matched the apes in strength and formed a protective circle around him, buying Sun Fuping some time.
But as Nian Songyu had said, the demon apes could revive endlessly, wearing down their attackers.
Dragging this out wasn’t a solution.
What’s more, the boss was still leisurely watching the show from atop the city gate.
Sun Fuping condensed a water droplet in his hand.
After reciting a long incantation, the droplet grew in size, eventually taking the shape of a duck egg.
He hurled the water sphere at a demon ape’s foot and calmly said, “The rules of this world are different from reality. Both your aura and my divine abilities are suppressed here!”
In the real world, the water sphere he conjured would have been at least twice the size of an ostrich egg, but here it had shrunk significantly.
Moreover, the incantation required twice the amount of spiritual energy, and even then, it was only possible because this space had absorbed rainwater from the upper realm.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to conjure anything at all.
Fortunately, when the water sphere hit the ground, it exploded, releasing over a dozen dark red water snakes.
Each snake targeted a demon ape, slithering up their bodies and into their orifices.
The apes roared in frustration, trying to pull the snakes off, but the liquid snakes couldn’t be torn apart.
Instead, they climbed onto the apes’ heads and burrowed into their seven orifices.
Nian Songyu heard a continuous hissing sound coming from the apes’ bodies.
As thick white steam billowed out, the molten lava flowing across their rocky surfaces dimmed and solidified.
Within a dozen breaths, the apes could no longer maintain their forms and crumbled into piles of charred remains.
Only then did Nian Songyu have a moment to take out a green pill, chew it, and apply it to his wound.
The wound immediately foamed with a light green substance, and Nian Songyu let out a long sigh of relief.
This medicine could draw out the fire poison.
Otherwise, if the toxicity spread through his bloodstream to his heart, it would be a disaster.
The medicine also stopped the bleeding.
He moved his left arm and found that the tendons were intact.
As long as the medicine took effect, the wound would heal in about ten hours.
That is, if they could survive long enough to leave this place.
With the Grand Preceptor by his side, he felt somewhat reassured.
But he couldn’t help thinking about those two cowards who had fled earlier.
That little bastard surnamed He was probably hiding in some corner, watching the show, right? When they returned to the real world, he would crush every bone in He’s body, one by one, then cut off his fingers one by one, and force him to cook and eat them himself!
Thinking this way, the pain in his wound seemed to lessen.
Taking advantage of the fallen demon apes, Sun Fuping turned to the black dragon coiled atop the city gate and said, “My king is determined to obtain the Great Square Pot! You’ve been buried in the desert for years, long abandoned as an ownerless divine artifact. Why not come with me, devour flesh and blood, and return to your peak?”
Divine artifacts, after all, are still tools that require regular and meticulous maintenance.
After the fall of Panlong City, Zhong Shengguang hid the Great Square Pot in the desert.
Without proper care over the years, the pot’s divine nature would have gradually eroded.
However, a hundred years is but a blink of an eye for a divine artifact.
If left neglected for thousands of years, it would eventually degrade into worthless scrap.
Divine artifacts have spirits, and out of instinct, they would seek to escape such a predicament.
“Well said,” the black dragon chuckled, its rough laughter echoing in everyone’s minds. “What do you plan to do once you leave?”
“I will lead you to quell bandits, pacify border threats, and restore the majesty of our Great Falcon Empire!” Sun Fuping declared boldly. “Both you and the Three Corpse Worms will have a role to play.”
The black dragon tilted its head, studying him for a long moment before replying in a sinister tone, “I don’t believe you.”
Sun Fuping frowned. “Why not?”
“You’re not worthy,” the dragon sneered. “You call yourself the Grand Preceptor, always preaching about saving the nation, yet I sense not a trace of aura surrounding you.”
Sun Fuping showed no reaction, but not far away, He Lingchuan’s expression changed.
What did that mean? Sun Fuping was one of the three Grand Preceptors, responsible for managing the empire’s aura.
Aside from the emperor, no official had more aura than them.
Yet the black dragon claimed Sun Fuping had none?
The black dragon glanced at Nian Songyu, then back at Sun Fuping. “Aura cannot deceive me. He has it. You don’t.”
Nian Songyu remained calm, unlike He Lingchuan, who was visibly shocked.
Sun Fuping sighed. “I always keep my word, but my stance has changed. You’re just a tool spirit, while I can borrow the power of the gods. In the end, you’ll have to surrender. Why not let me save you the trouble of suffering first?”
