The Masochistic Desire of the Marquisate's Daughter
Ever since I was a child, I often found myself watching the maids.
The moment I reached for something with my own hands, someone would dart forward and lift it for me; when I bent to retrieve a dropped handkerchief, the answer that came back was always, "A lady mustn't do such things, my lady." Even dressing myself required an attendant's service, and whenever I tried to open a door, someone had already opened it for me first.
At first, it was simply inconvenient.
Why must I always be the one receiving?
Why must I always be the one who stays still?
As I grew a little older, that inconvenience curdled into a strange sort of yearning.
It wasn't because the maids were pretty. What I envied was the sight of them answering "Yes" without a flicker of doubt once an order was given.
As the heir, I was demanded of every single day — choices, and the weight that came with them. What to wear, how to greet whom, what expression to arrange on my face. All of it fell to me.
But the maids were different. Once someone defined their role for them, all they had to do was move in accordance with it. To my young self, that simple structure arrived as a strange, inexplicable relief.
When my body began to change into a woman's, that yearning took on a far more concrete shape.
It was because of the novels I had read in secret.
Stories of noble young ladies wearing maids' clothing. Stories of highborn women bowing their heads in lowly stations. Scenes of being commanded. Scenes of dignity coming apart at the seams.
At first, I assumed it was the maid uniforms themselves. The black dress, the white apron, the frilled cap. I told myself my heart raced because that attire looked beautiful.
But something was off. When ordinary maids appeared in a scene, nothing stirred in me. My heart only pounded when a noble young lady tied on the apron and lowered her head. Only in scenes where a woman of high station descended into a low one did my body react in ways it never otherwise did.
Reading those scenes, I would imagine myself moving only as I was told, like a maid — and a sharp, trembling ache would twist through my gut.
The folds of flesh within my sex had begun to grow damp.
Dragging the blanket all the way up over my head, I held the book open in one hand while the other slipped beneath my nightclothes. The moment my fingers met skin already made slick, my hips gave a small jolt.
I did not penetrate myself. That act alone still frightened me. I only stroked the sensitive place at my surface, slowly, again and again, rereading the same scene.
My earliest fantasy was a simple one.
I want to move only as I'm told, the way a maid does.
To make no choices — only to follow.
With every page I turned, that wish sank one level deeper. I wanted the lofty status of heir to the Marquisate to mean nothing at all inside that scene.
A place where having a family name did not matter. A place where the word lady carried no weight.
And it was only upon reaching the deepest pages that I began to imagine a position from which I held not even the right to refuse.
Something that could not be declined. Something from which there was no stepping back. A place where the very sentence "I don't want this" was never permitted to exist.
The instant my fantasy touched that point, pressure gathered in my fingers. Shame and pleasure flooded in at once, and if I hadn't bitten my lip, a moan would surely have escaped.
What cut deeper than any lash was the kind of words that made rank itself meaningless.
The books in my father's study had been full of such scenes, in every variety. And every time I read them, I pushed myself into the one being stripped down — never the one inflicting it.
Only then did it become clear to me.
I did not want a maid. I wanted the position of one — the place where I moved like a maid, where my exalted standing became utterly worthless.
Later still, I wanted that worthlessness to be not a choice, but a condition I had no power to refuse. More precisely: I wanted someone to seize upon my weakness and force me down into that place.
Not that I would lower myself first — but that I would be caught, held down, made irretrievable.
That I — eldest daughter of the Marquisate of Velois, its official heir — ached to set aside dignity and honor, if only for a breath, and become a creature kneeling on the floor, waiting for nothing but orders.
Every night I admitted that truth to myself, I trembled beneath the covers — quietly, and yet violently. The longer my fingers rubbed across the soaked flesh, the shorter the answers slipping out between my lips became.
"Yes... I understand."
It was a secret I could speak to no one.
Above all, not to my father.
When morning came, I returned once more to being the perfect daughter of a marquis. Before the servants, I maintained a bearing without the slightest crack in it.
But the desire never vanished. It only sank, and waited, in the deep.
"My lady, would you raise your arms for me, please?"
Cecile's voice pulled me out of my reverie.
I lifted my head slowly and looked at her. The black maid's dress. The pristine white apron. The white cap trimmed with frills. She had spoken only to help me change — an ordinary request, made purely in the line of duty, without the slightest intent behind it.
And yet I received that short sentence as though it were a command.
Even though it was the most trivial of words, a sharp ache knotted in my belly. Feeling the inside of my thighs grow warm, I slowly raised my arms.
Cecile's expression was composed. There was not a trace of anything that suggested she meant to torment me.
Of course, that is not to say she was that kind of person. If anything, everything I had seen of her so far had been courteous to the point of excess — her voice, her hands, even the precise angle at which she bowed her head, flawless in every particular.
And still, I went and imagined it anyway. The moment those same lips would one day let fall words entirely unlike the ones she spoke now. A lower, shorter phrase — one that could only become possible once my weakness lay in someone's hands.
The fantasy was so vivid I could not look my own face in the mirror.
"My lady? Is something the matter? Are you unwell anywhere?"
Cecile tilted her head slightly as she asked.
I turned my gaze away in a hurry and answered.
"No — no, it's nothing."
My voice was as calm as it ever was. But in my ears, that brief little request still lingered, echoing like an order.
