"Hello, everyone, and welcome. We'll be with you for day thirteen of the 2023 PCT LOCK//IN in São Paulo — the Group A semifinal. Glad you're here."
"No long windup needed. Today we've got last year's champions against the third-place team."
"That's right. There's a debt to settle. A lot of Korean fans are going to want KZ to take this revenge match."
"Lord's roster has changed, but they'll be chasing a second straight international title."
"And with that, Lord takes the set, one to nothing."
"KZ lost most of the fights outright. There were a few rounds where they had a real advantage, and Lord just deleted them in the duel."
"Two hundred and eleven damage a round... Apas is unbelievable."
"A hard carry, genuinely. Who puts up numbers like that in a semifinal?"
"When you play like that, even the Jett doesn't really have anything to say."
"It isn't over. KZ still has two more chances. We'll take a short break and come back for map two."
"Thirteen to eight, and Lord takes the second set as well."
"They did claw their way back from zero–eight, but Lord's off-script movement kept showing up, and KZ collapsed in the fights more than once."
"The silver lining, as we said, is that unlike set one, Galaxy looked like he'd found his confidence again. That, at least, was something."
"And this time— oh! Another two hundred..."
"Headshot rate holding in the mid-twenties, and the rest of the sheet looks just like set one."
"Apas is a monster. He really is."
"KZ is in trouble now. An L-L-W-W-W isn't impossible in esports, but it's going to be brutal from here. We'll be back shortly for the third set."
"A brutal first half, but KZ lives up to that slow-starter name and takes the third set off Lord."
"You can tell their hands have finally warmed up. Sets one and two didn't look like KZ. This one did."
"Galaxy closes it with a quad kill, and that was a massive performance in stealing the set."
"He was poor in set one. Getting past that is what matters."
"Exactly. The fact that he didn't fold is huge, and the match really starts now. They've climbed all the way back."
"KZ takes set four as well, and the momentum has completely flipped!"
"They might still be losing the aim duel to Apas, but against everyone else, they're winning those fights right now!"
"Tactics KZ! How many times have we heard it — tactics are great, but it still comes down to aim — and right now the players are winning that fight!"
"Two hundred and three from the smoker! MOKO is incredible."
"Match score, two to two. KZ has caught all the way up. The Group A semifinal comes down to one last set. We'll take a moment to reset and come back for the decider."
"And with that, the fifth set is over."
"Last year's champions are still standing."
"KZ's run ends here, and it's a bitter one. Lord is through to another international final, just like last year."
"We'll sign off here, and you can go straight into KZ's interview."
"Yes — we'll bring on KZ head coach Term and Galaxy. Hello."
"You really dragged it from zero–two all the way to two–three, right to the last moment. It looked like you gave everything. Galaxy, looking back on today?"
"I did my best. I really did. I think we lost because I got run over by Apas, and I'm sorry to my teammates."
"Still, today isn't the end. In the next domestic league, and at PCT—"
"...Sorry?"
The interviewer running the segment, the viewers hearing it go out live, the pros watching from wherever they were — every one of them froze. He was twenty-one. Still young enough that people could talk about room to grow, and he had announced it anyway, with no warning at all.
But the thrashing was over. The kind of effort that never meant anything. He was sick to death of it.
I'm not doing it. Not the pro-gamer thing.
A job that lives or dies on talent. A complete fucking dead end.
