The Mystery of My Birth
Nyarlathotep. What an overwhelming presence. Almost on my level? Comparable to Shub-Niggurath from cosmic history.
Estimated upper-level or higher. Who the hell is that? Feels more like supreme-level to me...
Wait, but if she's around the same as Shub-Niggurath and me... does that make me supreme-level too...?
[Answer the question. Who are you?]
As I was lost in those thoughts, Nyarlathotep spoke up again.
[You just emerged from that space. But there was no one like you among those who entered.]
Well, yeah. I was only born there today.
[Newly born. A few hours ago.]
I figured ignoring her might make me seem rude, and the whole group could swarm me for a beatdown, so I answered straight away.
...Not sure if Outer Gods have that kind of senior-junior hierarchy thing going on, though.
[...What?]
Nyarlathotep sounded baffled, like she couldn't process it.
What, even Outer Gods don't know everything? I thought you all had full awareness of my birth.
Ah, well. I barely have info on upper-level or higher Outer Gods myself. At best, sightings and incidents from cosmic history.
[That's strange. None of our kind are newly born.]
??? What do you mean? I'm right here, fresh out the gate.
So when do Outer Gods even spawn? And aren't Outer Gods supposed to spawn other Cthulhu mythos beings?
[You are like us. Close to the origin... Surely from an existing origin.]
Existing origin... Probably referring to true upper-level or higher Outer Gods.
She thinks I'm the same since I have similar power.
But I was just a regular human who reincarnated as an Outer God.
The Galactic Union even captured the exact moment I popped into existence.
No creator—just born on my own.
Yet I wield power like an ancient origin.
...What the hell am I?
[Fascinating. You are like us, yet different. No memories, peculiar temperament. Almost like... yes, the frail ones in the cosmos.]
Well, I started as a puny human.
My human memories and emotions are still vivid.
Even after becoming an Outer God and knowing all the universe, they linger.
That's definitely weird. By now, my human ego should've eroded away, turning me into one of them.
Listening to her, I do feel a bit alien among Outer Gods.
But so what? No one's complaining or sanctioning me.
Not even sure they could, but anyway.
Might as well enjoy eternal immortality as a creator god.
I decided that's the play. Eternity ahead—who knows when my personality wears down—but for now, savor it.
[Don't worry about it. I'll live my way. Would the others sanction me or something?]
[...No. We don't interfere unless provoked.]
Good. If the Outer Gods decided to throw down transcendent brawl, I'd be in trouble.
I'm a newbie Outer God; they've been around forever—total veterans.
Power's even, but experience gap means I'd lose.
...Though supreme-level conceptual immortals like me probably don't just vanish on defeat.
[Truly intriguing. Your thoughts, speech, temperament—like observing the frail ones. I find them fascinating. And you, like us yet like them, intrigue me greatly.]
Suddenly, Nyarlathotep said that, and her coiling tentacles started writhing violently.
Ugh...! C-Could you not squirm like that? Makes me wanna hurl...?
Not thrilled about a Saturn-sized tentacle mass taking interest in me.
Honestly, it's creepy. She's eyeing me like a lab rat.
[Shall we converse more? As payment, I'll share special knowledge.]
[......]
Special knowledge, huh.
Nothing left I need to know... but she knows that.
Probably offering something I lack.
Outer God living tips, maybe? That could be interesting.
Sure, I dove into this SF world with avatars and all sorts of nonsense for fun, but at my core, I'm an Outer God.
...Huh? Wait, I can't feel my link to Yujin anymore.
Oh! It snapped.
Got distracted by Nyarlathotep popping up.
Damn... Can't reconnect from the crevice now...
Oh well. Planted a backup personality for this scenario—Yujin's ego should be puppeteering the avatar fine.
Copied my traits, so no wild deviations.
Loaded it with OP powers—no danger there...
Yeah, don't sweat it.
For now, chat with this ancient Outer God senior.
Her interest creeps me out, but no kill intent.
Prime chance to talk with a supreme-level Outer God.
Leus and Allegros, back at Galactic Union headquarters, were reporting to Edgar—one of the Rubaran elders on the Elder Council.
He had the standard Rubaran blue skin and elongated head, hard to distinguish at a glance, but his noble blue-spectrum hair marked him as elite.
His deep turquoise locks screamed high status.
“So... you couldn't find any connection, is that it?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Sorry we came back empty-handed.”
“...Sigh. Fine, whatever. The Outer God vanished suddenly anyway.”
“Pardon?”
At the news of the sudden Outer God disappearing, Leus and Allegros looked baffled.
“Space ripped open, then poof—gone. Just like the others vanishing.”
Outer Gods popping in and out of dimensions was normal.
But vanishing without incident? Rare.
They usually caused massive disasters, short stay or long.
The tourists did suffer mental attacks, but that wrapped up easier than expected.
Even without Yujin the Terra sorting it, debatable if it'd count as major.
Just one cruise ship, a few hundred casualties.
Having Yupiter, a Meias elder, aboard was risky, though.
Anyway, it was minor—like a regular kaiju rampage.
Hell, it didn't even move from the spot before vanishing hours later.
First time in Union history. Super suspicious.
“...Well, no casualties is good. And thanks to that Yujin Terra, passengers walked away mostly unscathed.”
Elder Edgar added he'd love more Outer God visits like this.
“More importantly, I want to dig into this Yujin guy. You said he was struck from Terra records before?”
Elder Edgar fixated on Yujin over the closed case.
Ripping space to leave confirmed upper-level or higher Outer God.
Meaning Yujin purified a mental collapse from one using cutting-edge brainwave tech.
If true, genius inventor. Union needs talent like that.
“Reach out to the Terras. Someone might remember him.”
A guy like that? Terras might know the name or face.
Not banking on it—names and looks are easy to fake.
“...Want us to fetch him now?”
“Ha, you idiot.”
Leus's suggestion drew a short, exasperated sigh from Elder Edgar.
“We grilled him without explanation—probably hates our guts. Go grab him now saying we want his tech?”
“......”
Fair point. Fresh off suspicion-probing, his view of the Union sucks.
“...My bad too. Should've asked where he got the tech, just in case.”
Too rushed, acted carelessly—Elder Edgar reflected a bit.
“Send an official apology first, give it time. He'll stick with old man Yupiter for a while anyway.”
“Understood.”
Yujin plan: Apologize, wait it out.
Time fades emotions.
Especially for short-lived, forgetful Terras.
