The Queen's New Year Wisdom
The explanation of the Dowon-gyeorye incident is...
“Haa.”
I let out a sigh while looking at the article. A few days ago, to mark the new year, I had signed an official contract with Andel. Roselia, Lawyer Kim, and I had sat together the entire day reviewing the contract and listening to every explanation. The official announcement hasn’t dropped yet, but it’ll come soon enough. Looks like it’s time to start working again.
It’s not that I hate modeling work, but it really is exhausting. Still… I have to make money while I can. It’s a short-lived career, after all.
What should I do once modeling is over? Lying on the sofa, I briefly considered my future. Most seniors either move into the entertainment industry or launch their own cosmetics or clothing brands. Should I follow the same path?
…Honestly, I’ll probably just stream more once modeling ends. By then I should have saved enough to live comfortably for the rest of my life. I could treat streaming as a hobby and just enjoy life.
Of course, it’s still way too early to be thinking about retirement.
“Sis, you signed the contract?”
While I was lying on the sofa with my legs draped over the armrest, lost in thoughts about my future, my younger brother casually came down from the second floor.
“Yeah. I’ll be busy from now on.”
“What about streaming?”
“I’ll do it when I have time.”
I’ll probably end up with a lot more days off compared to how much I streamed before. It’s a shame, but I can still squeeze streams in at night. As long as I take good care of my body until the season starts, it should be fine.
In that sense, I’m really lucky. My skin doesn’t get rough or flaky even if I stay up all night. No matter how much money you throw at dermatologists or how much you benefit from the privileges of youth, this is clearly just talent.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
In that sense, Aseong has great skin too. Must be a family trait.
“Is it slightly asymmetrical?”
“What?”
“Your face. The left and right sides don’t quite match.”
“...? Why are you starting a fight?”
It really is a shame he doesn’t take after me more. I got up from the sofa, leaving my brother with that unnecessarily offended expression on his face.
“Ahyeon! All rested up now?”
When I stood, Roselia poked her head out from my fitting room. Since I’d signed the exclusive contract, we needed to be careful about what I posted on the official SNS and what clothes I wore daily. Roselia was currently filtering out products from Andel’s competitor brands.
“Yes, I’ll help you now.”
“No! You can’t tell them apart properly, Ahyeon. Just rest.”
“Tsk, fine.”
For the record, I had originally tried to help, but after mixing things up a few times Roselia kicked me out. She said it was easier if she handled it from the start.
“Roselia, no schedule today, right?”
“Nope! But you have a meeting tomorrow, so watch what you eat!”
“Got it. You heard her? Go get me an oat milk latte.”
I jerked my chin at Aseong. It was morning, so I wanted coffee, but now that I had to manage myself properly, a sugary latte was out of the question. My body doesn’t gain weight easily, but there’s no harm in being careful.
“Aren’t you working her too hard?”
“It’s a big sister’s right.”
“And your duties?”
“I think I’ve fulfilled them pretty well, don’t you?”
At my words Aseong turned away. Kid, you’ve got nothing to say, huh? Where would you find anyone who plays the older sister role better than me? I didn’t realize how convenient it was until we actually had a younger brother. It’d be nice if he went to a university near home.
“Roselia, call me if it gets tough.”
“There won’t be any need, so just rest!”
“....”
I asked again just in case, but Roselia shot me down so decisively that I could only pout. She didn’t even glance my way.
“Then I’m going to stream. Once I start I won’t come down for a few hours.”
“Okay, have fun~”
Yeah, yeah. The useless model should just go stream.
I strode up the stairs toward the streaming room.
Click.
The moment I sat at the desk I turned the computer on first. You know what? Computers are surprisingly helpful for dieting. Once you start gaming you forget all about being hungry. Of course it can lead to lack of exercise, but I can just do some yoga on the mat behind me whenever I have a spare moment.
Tap tap.
After turning on the computer I first checked my messages. Since I don’t have Discord on my phone, I have to boot up the PC for anything stream-related. A few messages had come in overnight. Most were from fellow streamers or chatter in group chats, so I sent quick replies before opening OBS.
Since I was already sitting at the computer I thought about playing a few games of League, but people would complain if I played without streaming. Thinking how tiring it all was, I hit the stream start button and checked today’s game.
Outwind
Outwind was a fantasy adventure game I’d recently discovered. I installed it because I liked how little the quests forced you and how much freedom it gave. Sure, that also made it unfriendly and brutally difficult, but I could always bang my head against it or take advice.
After confirming the game was properly installed, I glanced at the chat window. Viewers were already pouring in and typing away.
“I have tomorrow off so I started the stream early.”
For reference, I have a meeting tomorrow. Now that I’ve just signed the brand contract, my schedule is packed with meetings and pre-shoots.
“It’s Monday tomorrow. I have to go to work.”
“Last month was the end of the year so I had some breathing room.”
“Who said I was a director? Anyway, shall we start with some warm-up?”
I had the game ready but I wasn’t planning to jump straight in. I had to wait until the viewers were properly seated. New games are best enjoyed from the very beginning. It’s an unspoken rule to wait thirty minutes to an hour while doing other things.
So…
“Our cafe is completely dead, what is there to look at? It would take a whole week to get even one hour of views.”
Looking at a cafe to kill an hour is a privilege for big-time streamers. With my average of two hundred viewers and an even smaller cafe visitor count, I might as well play League.
“Alright, I’m doing duo queue so jump in quick, first come first served.”
I made the room planning to do some light duo queue as a warm-up. Three games should be enough, right?
“You have to tell me your username.”
When I asked for usernames the chat flew up the screen, but I deliberately glanced away. A few quick-witted viewers caught on immediately.
“The chat is moving too fast. Hurry, hurry.”
…This can’t be helped. Even I don’t particularly want to play games together with all the viewers. But value is a funny thing. If you give it away too easily it loses its shine. If a one-carat diamond only cost thirty thousand won, would people have treasured it? Its value rose, so it became even more precious.
MiaPingForHittingWayosHeadKR2 donated 5,000 won!
Line: ㅇㅇ donated 5,000 won!
Wayo ram kr1 you money-crazy bitch;;
“Ah~ Now I can see it. Welcome.”
Fortunately our quick-witted duo-queue gentlemen hurried to take their seats. I smiled brightly and sent friend requests.
“Irrashaimase…!”
…Tsk. But a ten-thousand-won unit price wouldn’t work, right? I felt a little regret inside as I accepted the additional people.
