I Refuse to Become a Saintess!
I ran. Like a furious wild stallion, or like a snake striking its prey—stealthily!
“Catch her! We have to catch her! If we don’t, we’re all dead!”
Breath ragged, heart pounding. I would not be caught. Absolutely not!
I had waited so long for this day!
Boom! Boom! Boom!
All kinds of magic hurtled toward my slender (?) body, intent on ravaging it. Hey! You said you had to catch me! No matter how I looked at it, this was clearly meant to kill, not capture?! Well, it’s not like I’d die from something like this anyway!
I pushed my speed even higher and glanced back. A pursuit team of over a hundred people. At the very front, the man leading the charge kept screaming. To threaten me and to boost his allies’ morale.
“Please! Saintess Candidate Levia Leviathan! Stop! No, I’m begging you, please stop! If we can’t catch you, we’re all going to die!”
Oh. So he was straight-up begging. To the man who couldn’t tell if he was issuing a warning or making a plea, I shouted back with equal desperation.
“Captain! You really think I’ll stop just because you say that? I’m not going back!”
“Grr! Fire! Arrows, magic, holy spells—hit her with the intent to kill!”
“Captain! What are you saying to Lady Levia?!”
Exactly! After all the time we’ve spent together, you’d think there’d be some affection! Captain, I’m disappointed!
“Vice-captain, you’d better decide right now. Are you going to die by my hand? Or by that damn old geezer’s—”
“All troops! This is the ‘Captain’s’ order! Pour everything you have into stopping Lady Levia’s escape! As long as she doesn’t die, we can figure out the rest!”
“...”
Whoa… The life-or-death friendship between the captain and vice-captain was truly tear-jerking. But I wouldn’t cry. I was an adult, after all!
“Saintess Candidate Levia Leviathan! I beg you! Stop fleeing this instant and return to your rightful duty!”
“Rightful duty my ass! You guys just arbitrarily decided that for me!”
I had said it many times over a very long period. To those guys. To the people above them. They were the ones who took it as a joke and ignored me.
“I said I’m not going to be a Saintess!!!!!!!!!!”
