Yes, It's A Miracle (3)
Standing in front of the room attached to the laboratory, I think. Quietly. I stare at the closed door. Two rooms. Inside are two men and three women. It’s already been four months since they were captured. Five people who haven't stepped foot outside since they were brought here. They can't live their whole lives locked up like this. People need to see the sunlight to live. How can they live only underground? I’ve been giving them Vitamin D, but this can't go on forever.
The spore concentration in these five has long since hit zero. So, at the very least, they won't mutate. However, I don't know what kind of side effects might exist. The side effects of the spore-reduction pill. There’s no way there aren't any. They consumed the lymph nodes of a human who had already undergone mutation. So, if only to observe those side effects, I have to keep watching them. But for how long?
Honestly, the condition of these five isn't great. It’s not their bodies that are the problem. It’s their minds. The two men had a spark in their eyes at first. I think they even had thoughts of taking revenge on me. It felt like they were plotting something, too. But not anymore. Only four months. Their spirits were broken in just that short time. Now, they just live like they're dead. They’ve lost all motivation. The two are brothers, but they don't even talk to each other anymore. Because if they talk, they fight. They get irritable and annoyed. And it’s even worse with the girls.
The younger sister and the coworker. Both of them have become quite haggard. So, I don't really feel like having sex with them anymore, either. It feels like I'm doing it with a corpse. The hostess had been triumphant watching those two. The atmosphere was roughly like that. A feeling of, "This is why kids raised in greenhouses are a problem." But depression must be contagious. Lethargy must encroach upon everything around it. The hostess, too, has become very sharp-edged and annoyed by everything. Just like the other two women. Above all, she’s started whining and making more demands of me. That she wants to go out. That she wants to be with those two girls. I was a bit dumbfounded. I don't know who she thinks she is to make such demands so confidently. Is it that animals locked in a zoo have no choice but to suffer from mental illness? Is it impossible to keep them locked up and raised like that unless they’re as stupid as fish in a bowl?
It’s a waste to have watched them for four months, but since I know the method was wrong, I should fix it now. No, it’s not fixing it; I have to start over. If I keep going like this, even if side effects appear, I won't be able to distinguish for sure if they’re side effects of the drug or for some other reason. Most of all, experimental subjects need to be fresh. Hmm. That phrasing is a bit off. I’ll correct it to "healthy."
My dilemma ended there. I shouldn't be hung up on something just because the sunk cost is a waste. So, it’s time to vacate the rooms. It means it’s time to stop keeping them alive while plucking the wings off a dragonfly. But why am I looking for excuses like this? Like a stupid bastard.
I put sleep gas into the men's room. I don't really want to hear their last words. I’m a coward. I’m selfish. So, I won't listen to their curses, resentment, or final words. Ruthlessly.
I put on a gas mask and enter the room. Then, I take them out, put them on the operating table, and tie them up securely. I gagged their eyes and mouths. With that, they lost the ability to convey their opinions. Having brought the two to the lab, I finish the preparations for the experiment.
I went through all the trouble of lowering their concentration to zero. I inject zombie body fluid into one guy's nose. Was this one the older brother? I think so. Anyway, the guy twitches, then uses so much strength that his whole body turns red and his veins bulge. I lift the syringe, plunge it into his neck, and press down hard.
Become it. You have to become it.
The animal experiments were successful. Of course, it wasn't 100 percent, but if I timed it right, it was almost always a success. So, I have expectations this time, too. Become it. Become it. Show me a miracle.
The guy kept struggling. As if he were about to tear through the ropes I’d tied him with. The guy, who kept thrashing about, flared his nostrils and groaned. Did I gag him for nothing? I don't know if he’s going to die from respiratory distress.
As the injected drug began to circulate, the guy who had been struggling soon became quiet. His reddened body and bulging veins all subsided. The guy went limp.
No way, did it work on the first try? Really?
There are no signs of mutation. The guy is still human. I immediately draw blood to check. Then, the guy's spore concentration comes out at 100 percent. That’s fascinating. Is it really like that? I inject the zombie body fluid into the guy's nose again. But the guy has no reaction. He’s quiet. What is this? Is it because there’s no trigger? Even so, shouldn't he mutate if it’s like this? No way, is he immune? Did he become immune because I blocked the mutation?
It’s an interesting result. He won't mutate? No way, is it because of the anesthetic inside? Is the trigger not activating right now because he’s under anesthesia? At this dosage, it should last at least two hours. So, if I try again in two hours, it will be certain. Then, I can't let that time go to waste. I should try it on the younger brother, too.
I did the same thing. The younger brother also started to mutate, and I plunged the syringe into him and administered the drug at the right timing. The younger brother showed the same reaction as the older brother. The mutation was cut off just the same, and he, too, became quiet.
Since there was still time left, I bring all three women as well. I tied them all up and did the same thing. And I got the same result for all three. Ha. It’s this easy? That doesn't make sense. Even if I experimented on animals, how can the results be this good for everyone?
I left them as they were. And just as the anesthesia was wearing off, I put in the zombie body fluid again. But they didn't mutate. There’s no reaction at all. They just violently expelled the zombie body fluid through their noses. Ugh. Disgusting. But it can't be helped. It’s something I brought upon myself. I pour water to clean them off for now. It ended up being waterboarding, but it’s still better than leaving them with zombie body fluid in their noses.
After cleaning up appropriately like that, I quietly stared at the five who were tied up. Mutation immunity. Did I create something absurd? No, this doesn't make sense. Is it this simple? So many people died because they couldn't do this simple thing? Of course, most people wouldn't be able to conduct such inhumane experiments. It’s something they did secretly in Iceland, too. Well, rumors did circulate. I didn't mix in any special medicine. I’m not a huge expert, either. There are definitely people smarter than me overflowing in the world. Of course, assuming they’re still alive. But if they’re high-level personnel, isn't the probability of them still being alive high? Well, that’s that.
At first, I thought, should I let them all go once my experiments are all finished? If I persuade them well, if I mix in appropriate lies and tell them that they’ll die if they don't take the medicine I give them, wouldn't I be able to keep them alive and watch them? That’s what I thought. But I think that’s impossible. These guys have found out too much. The experiments I did, the things I did, where I am. And my existence. Secrets are bound to be revealed someday. The safest vault in the world is inside my head. And these guys know, even if vaguely, what I’ve found out. That will be a complete loss for me. So, these guys now have to shut their mouths. Forever. In a way that they can never speak again.
It wouldn't be bad to turn these guys into zombies and extract their lymph nodes for research. But I don't know how to mutate them in this state. So, I’ll just have to let these guys go. Even that hostess. I won't have a place to fuck for a while, but... I could find another one. Besides, well, it’s not like I’ll die if I can't have sex. It’s time to stop fucking these already-broken lumps of meat, too. So, at least these five here should be sent off peacefully.
I sprayed sleep gas. I should at least make sure there’s no pain. With that, all five fell asleep. A sleep from which they will never wake up again.
I mix the drugs appropriately. There are many ways to die without pain. It’s just that you can't search for them carelessly. Ah. I should have given them some drugs before they died. Wouldn't they have been able to die a little more pleasantly then? I administer the injections. One by one. Two men, two women, and the hostess. I thought it was a waste again, but the water has already been spilled.
Like that, I quietly watch those who are falling asleep and dying. Five people whose names I don't even know. People who might have lived longer. No. They would have died sooner. And they would have met a terrible end as zombies. So, dying like this might not be bad. Ah. This thought from a moment ago is very disgusting. Well, this must be my defense mechanism, too.
Like that, all five died. Originally, their bodies would have become food for zombies, but I decided not to do that. I sent all the bodies outside and thoroughly disinfected the laboratory. And I came outside and got on the excavator for the first time in a while. To at least bury them properly. I dug the ground deep and laid out the bodies of all five people. And I covered them with a lot of dirt. Like a grave.
Soon, when the weather warms up, plants will grow tremendously on top of this, too. They will probably grow more lushly than anywhere else. Because there are five bodies. Like that, I went back inside. Now, I am the only living person in this main base. Along with two zombies with their limbs cut off. Well, zombies aren't people. It’s correct that I’m the only one here.
Suddenly, I thought of the old man Choi’s house. Those people are still living well without mutation. Should I give them some medicine, too? Is it bad to add variables to my experiments for no reason? But why don't the people there mutate? Is there a reason? Thinking about it, that’s strange, too. Is it because it’s winter? Or is it because there are no zombies around? Anyway, that’s that, but now I need to pay attention to the Suwon facility side. The lab is empty, and my experiments were successful for now. So, now I’ll be able to show them a miracle. A miracle that doesn't turn you into a zombie. A miracle that can turn back a zombie that is mutating. So... I need to plan the scenario well. Because I shouldn't approach those people with a bad impression like those guys buried in the ground over there.
