Prologue: The Witch at My Doorstep
It was the dead of night. Bang, bang, bang—someone was pounding on the door with savage force.
This was the heart of the forest. I lived out here in seclusion, raising sheep and goats. There was no earthly reason for a person to be passing through at this hour…
Outside, the sheep and dogs were howling like mad. Robbers? The thought sent me scrambling for my gun.
Then came the crash—thud, CRACK. I spun around. The door had been smashed to splinters, and a figure stood silhouetted in the wreckage.
Large claw marks raked across their body. Blood poured freely from the wounds.
“Wh-who are you?”
In my panic I snatched up the gun and leveled it at the intruder. The room was too dark to make out their face.
They didn’t answer. They simply collapsed in a heap on the floor.
“Huh…? A-are you okay?!”
I rushed over to help and realized with a jolt that the stranger was a woman—an astonishingly beautiful one. Her body felt deceptively strong beneath those soft, graceful curves.
“Ughhh…”
She writhed in pain, letting out a low, tortured moan.
I half-carried her to the bed and did what little first aid I could manage.
A few days later I sent for a doctor from the village in a hurry. He took her pulse, then began to tremble all over.
“A-Allen…! Throw this woman out right now.”
“What? Why… why?”
“She’s a Witch!”
“A Witch?!”
“Yes. The moment she wakes up, she’ll devour you. I… I have to leave.”
“But doctor, her treatment—”
“She’s a Witch. She’ll heal on her own if you just leave her alone. I’ve warned you—get her out of your house immediately.”
And that was that.
Three months later… the Witch still hadn’t left my house.
“Honeyyy~! Dinner’s ready~!!”
