This Is Totally Lucky Biki, Right?
This was the 20th most wanted line I'd ever hoped to say out loud. I asked my manager to deliver it for me.
"It seems Chell got emotional while playing Blue Record."
The translator (who also doubled as my manager) performed admirably. With Leon around, I might not even need a smartphone anymore.
"So she wants to share that感动 with everyone."
"That sounds like religious solicitation."
"I won't deny it."
Chell said it so bluntly. I really wish she had denied it.
"It's a god-tier game, after all. So it's basically a religion."
The logic was so stretched it felt like it might snap and fly away.
"So you want to show me how fun Blue Record is too?"
"Yes. That's correct."
"Do you know there are a lot of other people in this world besides me?"
"I don't know about other people's houses."
It seemed the word "online" didn't exist in Chell's dictionary. If she wanted to promote Blue Record that badly, she could've just posted about it on the entire EYEAI Discord server. Why was she running around in person like this? It made me wonder if, just like how I'd been possessed by a duke's daughter, Chell had once been possessed by a medieval merchant.
"It's fun. You should try it."
Chell urged me again. A mobile gacha game, huh.
Honestly, it lacks that satisfying hands-on feel.
Every game has its own unique flavor of fun. FPS games are about the thrill of shooting enemies down. AOS games are about winning lane trades and team fights. Sandbox games are about slowly automating one factory after another. The shape of that fun naturally differs from title to title.
If I had to describe the core appeal of mobile games, I'd say it's the rush of turning the impossible into possible. That moment when a stage you've been stuck on suddenly clears after changing your team composition. Or when you finally defeat a boss that always crushed you before. Or when your clear time on a stage you've failed repeatedly suddenly drops dramatically. Or when you barely scrape through a brutal gimmick by contorting your whole body in desperation.
Mobile games have that kind of fun.
And usually, the way to overcome those impossible odds is by spending money.
Sure, there are some you can clear with pure skill or character growth, but fundamentally they're designed around monetization. After all, game companies release mobile titles to make money. That naturally narrows the role of player skill, which is why the fun feels different from the games I usually enjoy.
"Why don't you give it a try, sis?"
Leon, who'd been quietly listening, finally spoke up.
"If Chell came all the way here to recommend it, it must be insanely fun, right? I'm honestly curious about the story too."
"You're curious?"
"Yeah. Blue Record is super famous, but I don't really know much about it."
Leon shrugged.
"And from what I know, Blue Record streams get pretty decent viewership. There are apparently people who only watch story-focused broadcasts of it."
For example, people who binge every single horror game stream, even the ones from tiny VTubers with barely any viewers. That's why horror games are considered reliable content for views. When you watch a movie or drama and find it really entertaining, you want to share your thoughts with others—or hear what they thought. And when someone else's reaction matches what you hoped for, there's a strange satisfaction in that. That's why people visit community sites. And when even that isn't enough, they watch streamers. Because streamers experience the content live and react in real time, giving you the rawest possible impressions. Horror games and story-heavy titles are supposedly the most optimized for this kind of thing.
"I don't really like gacha games, though."
"Really? Sis, you love spending money."
"Maintaining appearances is just basic etiquette for a duke's daughter. I simply don't enjoy testing my luck all that much."
"...Huh? Do you have bad luck, sis?"
Leon tilted her head.
"If we're talking overall... I'd say my luck is slightly on the good side."
When my luck is bad, it's terribly bad. When it's good, it's amazingly good. When it's average, it's just average. Saying it like that might make it sound like I'm no different from a normal person, but the truth feels a bit more complicated than that.
"If you want to play, go ahead. But I want you to take the lead."
I leaned back in my chair and crossed my arms. Leon looked puzzled for a moment, but soon started setting things up with Chell. Three phones were mounted for tracking—mine, Chell's, and Leon's. I had no intention of doing anything during this Blue Record stream. I'd just sit back and watch the story.
"Sis, we're all ready."
"Then let's begin."
"No... this is your channel, sis."
"While you're at it, do the opening greeting too. And handle the self-introduction and hosting."
"You're the channel owner!"
Leon protested, but I didn't react. Maybe it was because it was a gacha game, but I just couldn't muster any enthusiasm. When I stubbornly maintained my silence, Leon had no choice but to put on the headset with an awkward smile.
"Nya... nyanyanyanya! I'm Nekozuka Leon, the nekomimi princess from Cat Planet, nya!"
-?
-Good evening..?
-Peace be with you nya
-What happened to our dear young lady
-Where did the miss go and why is there suddenly some random cat bastard..
-Slacking off again, huh..
"Lora sis, say something!"
"The black tea is delicious. Brew me another cup."
"This person really has zero intention of hosting..."
Leon brewed a fresh pot of tea, and the stream officially began. After explaining how we'd ended up doing a Blue Record stream, Chell gave her self-introduction. I wasn't sure if it was necessary to introduce her on my channel again, but VTubers doing self-intros no matter whose channel they're on was basically an unwritten rule. Leon explained that she was working from home today and had joined the stream, and then Blue Record launched. I simply watched.
-Was this supposed to be Leon's channel?
-She usually talks so well, why is she suddenly mute today
-Hey! Is the VTuber audio broken?!
-I can't hear Lora's voice! I think you need to turn up the volume!
-I love it when she slacks off♡♡ So cuteee♡♡♡♡
There were people desperately looking for me, but since it was nothing new, I ignored them. If I stayed quiet, the Blue Record story would start soon. The prologue wasn't bad at all.
"The story's pretty standard, but the world-building is unique."
"Prologue stories are usually standard like that."
Chell suddenly spoke up.
"Most gacha games have very complicated world settings. The protagonist has to command all the characters you pull from the gacha, after all. That's why the protagonist's identity is often something grand like a tactical commander or humanity's savior."
"That's true, but why are you suddenly lecturing me?"
"So the organization the protagonist leads has to be massive. And if that's the case, the enemies they face also have to be enormous to maintain balance, which naturally makes the world-building complex. That's why explaining the entire setting in the prologue would take forever. So instead, prologues usually keep the story simple and focus on conveying the game's atmosphere and gameplay instead."
-Is she rapping lololol
-Holy shit that's fast lolololol
-Why is she suddenly so talkative;;
-It's scary when someone who's usually quiet starts talking this much..
It seemed my comment about the prologue being standard had struck a nerve. Chell poured out words at a pace that made the viewers panic.
"Blue Record also has a complex world like other games, but its strength is that it's a familiar kind of complex world. It's similar to the modern world but with a slight fantasy twist, so it's approachable yet just a tiny bit alien, which draws people in. Therefore, in the prologue, you should focus more on the world-building rather than story enjoyment."
"I understood you the first time, so that's enough. My ears hurt."
"Did you really understand?"
What a persistent dark demon... Is this what obsession looks like? Still, I think I got what Chell was saying. Just as she described (excluding idol-raising games), gacha games generally have massive world scales and complicated settings. There are quite a few heavy ones, but Blue Record was definitely more accessible.
A world where guns are everyday items like cell phones.
A high school girl casually carrying a shotgun. It wasn't some sleazy harem atmosphere either—it was a relaxed, easy-to-digest harem story. The prologue story didn't seem particularly impressive, but the fact that it felt good was already half the battle won. In web novels, if the beginning is even slightly boring, people drop it without hesitation. Mobile games aren't like that. Since the download time is already invested, most people will at least do a few pulls before dropping.
Remaining Reroll Attempts: 10/10
"Blue Record allows up to 10 rerolls."
After the prologue ended, we reached the gacha section. The dark demon Chell Sumeragi began explaining the gacha system.
"You can reroll up to ten times to get the best possible result. There's always at least one 5-star character guaranteed."
"Is there a 5-star that's considered a human rights character?"
"There are good characters, but none that you absolutely must get during rerolls. They'll eventually get powercrept by limited characters anyway."
"So basically, it's nice if you get multiple 5-stars. Leon, you do the pulls."
"This is your account though...? Shouldn't you be the one pulling?"
Leon, who'd been controlling the stream screen the whole time, said that.
"If I pull, it's not very entertaining."
"...What do you mean?"
"Just watch."
I pressed the gacha button.
Remaining Reroll Attempts: 9/10
Remaining Reroll Attempts: 8/10
Remaining Reroll Attempts: 7/10
Remaining Reroll Attempts: 6/10
-Not a single 4-star lolololol
-I saw this screen earlier too
-Her luck is absolute garbage lololol
"Sis, didn't you say you had good luck earlier?"
"I never said that."
I answered indifferently. After all, I was a villainess. If you asked most people, "Is the villainess a character with good luck?" they'd probably tilt their heads. Some might think she has bad luck. In reality, my luck is just average, or perhaps slightly bad. However, a villainess is a character who must persistently torment the protagonist. That means even after falling into the abyss, she often makes a sudden comeback. So in terms of bad luck, I was actually quite strong.
"Huh? What is this??"
Leon jumped in surprise.
Remaining Reroll Attempts: 0/10
-?
-?????
-Is the gacha rigged or what
-What the hell, 10-pull with four 5-stars.
Watching the result I'd expected, I didn't feel particularly excited. I let out a small sigh, reached for my phone, and called Inagika.
[H-hello...? L-Lora...? What's going on...?]
Had she been sleeping until now? Inagika's voice was groggy. It was three in the afternoon.
I switched my phone to speaker mode so the viewers could hear her too.
"Inagika, repeat after me."
[Eh? S-suddenly...?]
"Repeat it. 'This is totally lucky biki, right?'"
[U-um... This is totally lucky biki... right...?]
"Thank you."
Click.
"Leon, continue hosting the stream."
