The Outlaw's First Stand
The sound of the horn blared across the arena—Biiiiiing! From the moment the ban-pick phase began, the sheer weight difference between us and the enemy team made my head spin. It wasn't until the game actually started that I realized I'd almost completely skipped checking the Outlaw's skill set.
"Ugh... I nearly jumped into my first-ever marksman game without even reading the skills properly."
I'd at least dabbled with Starlight Archer, Demon Hunter, and Pirate in the mid lane before, but the Outlaw was completely foreign territory. I'd almost ruined the game before it even began.
[If the one person on our team who can actually do something is the ADC and even they're like this... what the hell...]
[Kinda sloppy lololol]
[The situation earlier was pretty chaotic though]
[Just read it on the way to bot lane]
[Read while moving]
As the Saint had said, it took some time to reach the first turret along the bottom lane. I used that window to quickly scan through the Outlaw's skill set.
Outlaw
Role: Ranged Dealer
Passive: Final Shot — Each basic attack consumes one bullet. After using all six, the Outlaw must reload. (The sixth bullet deals bonus damage.)
Skill 1: Fanning — Rapidly fires all remaining bullets.
Skill 2: Outlaw of the Wastes — The Outlaw becomes surrounded by a sandstorm, gaining immunity to all ranged attacks and greatly increased movement speed.
Ultimate: Bounty — Marks a single enemy with a bounty. The marked target suffers a massive reduction in armor. If the Outlaw participates in killing the marked target, all allied participants gain bonus gold.
A quick read showed that the Outlaw's kit was built around burst damage, counter-engaging, and scaling through kills.
"So I really need to get ahead early if I want to carry into the late game."
[Yeah, exactly.]
[Wait, is she seriously reading the skill set on the way to bot lane lolololol]
[Her eyes are moving insanely fast whoa]
[I just told her to skim it but she actually read the whole thing in that short time? lolololol]
[Sometimes I can feel the madness...]
[Now that I think about it, of all the champions... Outlaw? She's played every weird mid pick under the sun but somehow never touched this one.]
[Looking at the draft again, it's actually terrifying lololol. Even if the Outlaw gets fed, there's a limit. Who the hell is supposed to break their frontline?]
[At this point the support should've at least picked Starlight Archer to counter their frontline... lol]
[First time playing ADC, first time playing Outlaw, and the enemy has the 1st, 4th, and 9th ranked players lolololol]
[Honestly the biggest emergency is top lane. It's the league's top laner versus the 7~8th ranked one, and the matchup is completely countered.]
[Holy... are we actually losing our undefeated streak here?]
The Saint seemed deeply concerned. He kept pointing out every unfavorable aspect of the draft and gave an even more negative evaluation than usual. Up until now, no matter how difficult the game, there had always been a fundamental skill gap we could exploit to win. But this match was different—every single player on both sides had reached the absolute peak of the Celestial tier. On top of that, we were overwhelmingly behind in both draft and individual lane matchups. Even I had to admit this would easily be the hardest game I'd played so far.
"They're only human too. If we look for openings, we can definitely put up a fight."
Still, I refused to enter a match already accepting defeat. It went against my nature. So I deliberately spoke with more confidence than I actually felt.
As soon as the laning phase began in earnest, the Outlaw's gun—almost as if honoring my words—fearlessly spat fire again and again. The support, who also had a very aggressive playstyle, synced up perfectly with me. Thanks to that, our bot lane quickly took a commanding lead.
[???]
[A first-time Outlaw mid laner is winning bot lane in a Celestial queue lololol]
[It's hard to say the enemy is just bad when their support is ranked 4th...]
[Is this actually her first time on Outlaw??]
[No way that attack speed and spacing is from a first-timer lololololol]
But our good fortune in bot lane didn't last long. A game ruined from the draft phase rarely went smoothly. Just as expected, things quickly spiraled.
ZX Hades (Berserker) [+400G] kill > GC Xedion (Assassin)
DOUBLE KILL!
ZX Hades (Berserker) [+300G] kill > TPG Jellybear (Swordsman)
The 2v2 skirmish that broke out in top and mid was completely thrown by our team. The enemy mid laner began snowballing dangerously early. That momentum continued all the way to the Cerberus timing, and we ended up losing complete control of every objective.
[Biiiiiing!!!!]
[Of all times for top to die right at Cerberus timing;;]
[That was clearly planned. They deliberately pulled the support at Wyvern timing and set up the dive.]
[It's not just the individual matchups—Hades and Thanatos' duo is completely dominating the macro...]
[At this point... there's literally nothing the ADC can do lolololol]
It was true that top and mid had collapsed pretty hard in that last fight, making the overall situation much more difficult. But if I looked at it from the other side, both the enemy top and mid were currently backing off to reset. This was the perfect moment to strike aggressively.
"I'm going for a dive here."
[??]
[If bot explodes too we're just done. Is this for real?]
[Diving without mid against Pirate and Necromancer is actually really hard;;]
[Isn't this confidence a bit excessive..]
The Saint reacted negatively to my bold call, but I had no intention of backing down from my decision.
Saintess (Outlaw): I'm diving now, so Support, please use Black Hole to suck up their summons and block their escape route with your ultimate.
V4 Fledia (Runemancer): Right now?
V4 Fledia (Runemancer): Understood.
At a timing where we should've been playing more safely, the Outlaw charged in and the bot lane dive began. The enemy tried to retreat after sensing the Outlaw's terrifying momentum and seeing how low their health had gotten from the previous trade. But our support landed his ultimate—Meteor—right next to the enemy turret, successfully cutting off their escape.
Meteor: After 6 seconds, a massive meteor crashes down at the targeted location, dealing heavy damage and stunning all enemies hit. (Meteor size and power scale with Mana Circle stacks.)
The summons that had been blocking the Outlaw's path were devoured by the Runemancer's Artificial Black Hole the moment its cooldown came back up. The fight instantly turned into a 1v2 between a nearly full-health, full-cooldown Outlaw and two vulnerable enemies—the Pirate and the Necromancer.
But the opponents still had their ultimates available and knew the Runemancer was still far away. They responded quickly. A Cursed Soldier appeared in front of the Outlaw, and right where the soldier would push her, the Pirate dropped Concentrated Bombardment.
Cursed Soldier: Four summoned wraith soldiers push enemies in the targeted direction. (The wraiths can apply Skill 1 the same way other undead units can.)
Concentrated Bombardment: Bombards a designated area for 4 seconds. Power and range increase based on the number of allied summoned units.
Just when it looked like the Outlaw was in serious danger, she used her leap at the perfect moment. Not only did she dodge the Cursed Soldier, she also escaped the area of the Bombardment entirely. From that point on, bullets poured endlessly from the Outlaw's gun, melting the enemies' health bars in seconds.
Saintess (Outlaw) [+300G] kill > STD CSkiller (Pirate)
Saintess (Outlaw) [+300G] kill > KNT Thanatos (Necromancer)
[Holy shit lolololol]
[She actually pulled it off;;]
[You should just go pro for real...]
[Saintess]
[Saintess]
[Saintess]
[Okay this is actually insane...]
[The leap timing was perfect, but the way she kept dodging their autos and forcing in one more shot each time was just filthy lololol]
[Wait lololol with mechanics like this, wouldn't she be better off just playing ADC full time??]
V4 Fledia (Runemancer): Wow...
GC Xedion (Assassin): well play adc
TPG Jellybear (Swordsman): I literally had my hand on the surrender button when you went in lololol. No joke, that was crazy.
The Saint was ecstatic over the devastating performance the Outlaw had just shown, and the team's morale seemed to rise. But that good atmosphere didn't last long.
ZX Hades (Berserker) [+250G] kill > GC Xedion (Assassin)
LF Avellon (Paladin) [+250G] kill > TPG Jellybear (Swordsman)
TPG Jellybear (Swordsman): I have nothing to say...
V4 Fledia (Runemancer): We still have control of bot lane. We can make a play around Dragon timing.
TPG Jellybear (Swordsman): Uh... top and mid are completely destroyed right now. We can't even fight them head-on.
V4 Fledia (Runemancer): If we give up every objective and go to late game, what exactly are we supposed to do without a frontline?
V4 Fledia (Runemancer): If we can't win now, it'll be several times harder later. That's why we need to try something immediately.
TPG Jellybear (Swordsman): No... we can't win a 4v4 teamfight anyway.
TPG Jellybear (Swordsman): So I was saying we should focus on picking them off on the sides, but why do you keep suggesting these impossible teamfights?
V4 Fledia (Runemancer): That's exactly why I'm saying side-lane plays like that have no meaning in this situation...
V4 Fledia (Runemancer): We need to flip the teamfight dynamic first. Someone has to get super fed if we want any chance of winning this.
After that, top and mid continued to die on cooldown. The enemy even took the Wyvern. From the beginning, the respectful tone between top and support had gradually grown sharper. As the game spiraled toward disaster, their differing judgments finally led to open conflict. Both of them were extremely competitive, so neither was willing to yield. They simply insisted that their own opinion was correct. They couldn't reach a proper compromise even by the time Dragon spawned. In the end, they wandered awkwardly near the Dragon pit and were picked off one by one in a total catastrophe.
STD CSkiller (Pirate) [+250G] kill > V4 Fledia (Runemancer)
KNT Thanatos (Necromancer) [+150G] kill > GC Xedion (Assassin)
ZX Hades (Berserker) [+150G] kill > TPG Jellybear (Swordsman)
Now I was the only one left. Although all of the Outlaw's skills were currently on cooldown, forcing me to retreat, I had to find a way to turn it around the moment they came back up.
First, I calmly observed the enemy's positioning and remaining abilities. The most immediate threat was the Berserker, who was charging at me with terrifying momentum while under the effect of his ultimate, Last Respite.
Last Respite: For 6 seconds, all incoming damage is delayed. The Berserker's energy recovery and attack power are increased. (If an enemy is killed during the ultimate's duration, all delayed damage is nullified.)
The Pirate and Necromancer, who had used most of their important skills in the previous fight, were focused on finishing off the Dragon. The Paladin had almost no skills or health left and was simply contributing with basic attacks while staying safe.
"Hoo..."
Now that I'd assessed the situation, it was time to act. I used my forward leap to dodge the Berserker's greatsword by a hair's breadth. Then the Outlaw, having successfully counter-engaged, unleashed another storm of bullets.
Saintess (Outlaw) [+400G] kill > LF Avellon (Paladin)
DOUBLE KILL!
Saintess (Outlaw) [+400G] kill > KNT Thanatos (Necromancer)
I took out the low-health Paladin first. Next was the Necromancer, who had been weakened by the Outlaw's ultimate. Only the Berserker and the Pirate remained.
ZX Hades (Berserker) [+600G] kill > Saintess (Outlaw)
But the Berserker caught up again and dodged every single one of the Outlaw's attacks, eventually putting an end to the rampaging marksman.
"Ah..."
Not only had the game collapsed, but my no-death record had been broken as well.
