Chapter 1: The Crack in Her Perfection
South Korea's evening news icon, announcer Seo Yu-ran was every woman's aspiration and every man's fantasy.
Her flawless professionalism tolerated not a single slip of the tongue, her neat bob haircut never out of place, her tailored suits the epitome of elegance.
But the true reason the public adored her lay elsewhere.
Untainted by a whisper of scandal in the cutthroat entertainment world, she had nurtured a serene, chaste home with her first love from university—her husband—for seven peaceful years.
"You worked hard today, honey. Want me to come pick you up?"
"No, dear, you have an early start tomorrow. Go to sleep first. I love you."
Yu-ran smiled at her reflection in the waiting room mirror. Her husband's gentle voice was always her steadfast pillar.
She touched the simple wedding band on her fourth finger and took a deep breath.
Tonight, she was about to unleash the most perilous and monumental truth of her career upon the world.
Choi Yeong-gon, chairman of SJ Group—South Korea's top conglomerate. A tip file detailing his sordid sexual misconduct and slush fund laundering, gripping the political and financial elite, had landed in her hands.
Everyone around her begged her to value her life, but Yu-ran's unyielding sense of justice and chastity could not abide such filthy power.
She had no inkling it was the trap that would drag her to ruin.
Trap
In the dimly lit underground parking garage of the broadcasting station, Yu-ran walked toward her car, double-checking the report script on her tablet.
Then, in an instant, rough footsteps echoed from behind.
"Announcer Seo Yu-ran?"
Before she could turn, iron-strong hands clamped around her throat.
The moment she opened her mouth to scream, a thick cloth reeking of harsh chemicals sealed her nose and mouth.
"Mmph…! Mmmph…!!"
She thrashed wildly, her heels scraping the concrete floor.
But the potent anesthetic seeped deep into her lungs, swiftly paralyzing her limbs.
Her brain flashed with vertigo, vision blurring rapidly.
Her beloved husband's face and the news script she'd prepared swirled chaotically in her mind.
'No… not like this….'
The tablet slipped from her grasp, clattering dully to the ground.
Yu-ran's head lolled limply, and the men in black suits deftly shoved her into the back seat of a car.
The Red Room
How much time had passed? Yu-ran heaved her heavy eyelids open, as if clawing out of an unending nightmare.
The first sensations were a splitting headache and a drug haze dominating her limbs, making it impossible to steady herself.
Her nerves felt like melting jelly throughout her body.
Instinctively, she tried to move, but only the cold clink of metal echoed through the room.
"Ah… ahh…"
Yu-ran recoiled in horror. She was bound to a chair in a sealed chamber bathed in eerie red light.
Her wrists and ankles were shackled in thick leather cuffs.
The crisp white blouse from her broadcast hung half-unbuttoned, exposing her collarbone and the line of her bra.
"Feeling with it now, Announcer Seo?"
From a corner of the room, beyond a haze of cigarette smoke, a hulking man emerged.
His graying hair slicked back, his greedy eyes raking over her body.
The face she'd seen countless times on news footage—Choi Yeong-gon, chairman of SJ Group.
"Choi… Yeong-gon… Chairman…?"
Yu-ran forced her numb tongue to form words through a groan. "What… is this…? Let me go… now…"
"Let you go? Still so goddamn cocky for a little bitch who was gathering dirt to choke me out."
Choi Yeong-gon approached slowly and seized her jaw roughly. As his fingers tightened, her delicate features twisted in pain.
"Think that precious justice of yours works here?"
"Korea's queen of chastity and purity, Seo Yu-ran, all on her own… I can't wait to hear what noises you'll make while you cry."
The Beginning of the Crack
Choi Yeong-gon picked up a small glass vial and syringe from the table.
Yu-ran felt primal terror as she watched the transparent pink liquid draw into the syringe.
"Wh-what… is that? Don't… please…"
"A drug that cranks your nerves to hyper-sensitive. Even the slightest touch will feel like agony or ecstasy amplified tenfold."
"Perfect for melting that stiff pride of yours."
"No…! No!! Mmph!"
Yu-ran flailed, but her restraints held firm.
One of Choi's underlings pinned her lower body, and the cold needle plunged mercilessly into her porcelain thigh.
"Aaaah…!"
As the drug surged through her veins, a violent shiver shot up her spine, stiffening it ramrod straight.
Her mind blazed white, and even the air from the red lights prickled her skin like needles.
Her breaths quickened, her once-chaste eyes glazing over.
Choi Yeong-gon grabbed her shirt collar and ripped it open. Buttons popped and scattered.
Her lace lingerie and untouched white flesh—never bared to any man but her husband—lay fully exposed under the crimson glow.
"Haa, haa… N-no… don't look…"
Yu-ran turned her head in shame.
But her drug-heightened nipples hardened shamefully at the chill air.
"Your body's honest as hell, Seo Yu-ran. Wonder what your husband would say seeing this."
Choi Yeong-gon trailed the tip of a leather whip lightly across her chest.
Even that faint stimulus, amplified by the drug, made her back arch with a high-pitched "Ahhng!" of ecstasy.
Tears streamed from her eyes at the lewd sound escaping her own lips—the greatest shock of all.
"Now, look at the camera."
Choi Yeong-gon pointed to the recording camera in the room's center.
"From here on, say exactly what I tell you. Slur or slip your words, and this footage streams live to your husband. Announce your plight with that perfect broadcaster diction of yours."
The word "husband" tore at her heart. Yet amid her crumbling reason, to survive and protect her family, she had no choice but to gaze at the humiliating script Choi Yeong-gon offered.
It was the moment when South Korea's premier announcer, Seo Yu-ran's perfect life began to crumble.
