Chapter Title: Wave Preparation
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I became a Dungeon Master one morning.
That means, from now on, I have to prepare for the hordes of intruders who could come charging in at any moment.
According to Judak, in this world, a dungeon is like a treasure vault—a place that drives countless people mad with the desire to conquer it.
I have zero info right now on where this world even is, why I ended up here, or how I became a Dungeon Master.
For the time being, I decided to tackle the most pressing issue first.
23 hours remain until the wave.
Short if you're thinking short, long if you're thinking long.
Fortunately, I've got a reliable ally in the Dungeon Gallery.
There's a world of difference between starting out with someone else's help and diving headfirst into barren ground alone.
What should I do first??
Information really gets people moving efficiently.
You could say it cranks the odds of success up to the max.
Haha traps...
Install traps first ㅇㅇ
Traps are really good.
Traps <- Best bang for your buck GOAT
Traps. The keyword that came up unanimously.
To defend your dungeon during a wave, there are basically three methods.
1. Install traps.
2. Grow your Dungeon Master's combat power.
3. Raise minions.
Each has pros and cons, but at your low level, points will be tight.
Boosting your own specs carries some risk when you haven't even fought yet...
Don't hire minions. Just install traps ㅇㅇ
Traps, huh.
Sure enough, in the dungeon roguelikes I used to play, traps were always the most infuriating part.
I fiddled with the hologram, and a ton of functions popped up.
"Dungeon expansion, dungeon theme, dungeon minions... Ugh, why is there so much? This UI sucks."
It took a fair bit of time to search for the trap category.
I thought my eyes were gonna fall out.
"This must be it."
【Trap Purchase】
【Smashing Trap (★1)】 - 500P
【Arrow Trap (★1)】 - 500P
【Wire Trap (★1)】 - 500P
【Debuff (Loss of Direction) Trap (★1)】 - 500P
【Poison Infusion (★1)】 - 500P
...
...
【New Dungeon Master Bonus】
【The first time you spend points, you'll get value equivalent to ten times the amount spent on traps, weapons, growth... (abridged) regardless of type.】
I've got 5000 points on hand right now.
The stars probably indicate the trap's grade.
But why do they all look so cruddy?
"Maybe I should ask for recommendations on these."
There was this New Dungeon Master Bonus thing.
In cases like this, order of operations matters a lot.
I hopped back into the gallery to ask the veterans...
Huh?
But I don't recommend traps.
Agile or alert enemies dodge them surprisingly well.
Once activated, you can't reuse them until they're done... and if destroyed, points go poof.
At your level, you can only afford low-grade ones anyway, so hiring minions is better imo ㅇㅇ
Hire an automaton-type minion and it solves everyone's worries. Trust me, Newbie—buy a golem?
But automatons are all expensive...
Set your dungeon theme to steampunk and it's solved.
Setting a dungeon theme that early is iffy. Standard is to farm points first. Plus, automatons come at max spec so no growth potential, performance is meh.
You ignoring steampunk and automatons???
Honestly think winter theme and undead dominate lol
?
Dwarf noob who almost got wrecked talking big, hilarious af lol just gtfo you f*cker~
?
Why the rage you f*ck?
Lol you got owned by humans last time
...
...
I step away for a minute, and now they're in a full-blown shitflinging war?
Vulgarities flying so thick it's scorching hot.
Calm down guys...
Should I summon a mod or something?
Ignore them. They make up later ㅇㅇ
So, bought any traps yet??
The other vets brushed it off like it was everyday stuff.
Judak had described the Dungeon Gallery as a warm, friendly place.
But watching them brawl, it didn't seem quite that way.
Anyway.
I uploaded a screenshot.
Which of these are good??
All solid when points are low.
Names look janky but they're bigger than you think—one can wipe 8 goblins easy.
Wire Trap's weaker but huge range. Pairs great with poison.
Intruder numbers per wave depend on your Dungeon Master level. Wait and see~~~
Lv1-20: max 10 intruders per wave.
Even at max, 5 traps will paste 'em.
As long as no trolls ㅇㅇ...
Trolls.
Judak mentioned them earlier, and this vet keeps bringing up how strong they are.
That strong?
Regen is a pain.
Need to kill in one go before it heals or block regen entirely—but nothing you can buy low-level does that.
That sounds kinda ominous.
If a troll shows up first thing, I'm toast, right?
Trolls are rare. Dungeon's not even a day old.
Don't worry too much.
Then one more question.
Goblins and trolls eat food and take shits like normal creatures, right?
ㅇㅇ Obviously.
But why?
Nah just curious.
Then why not hire minions?
This was something I was personally curious about.
Wouldn't that be sweet?
Why shady small companies keep hiring despite tight budgets.
It's to offload the hard, annoying work onto others.
Of course, the analogy's a stretch.
But efficiency-wise, groups beat solos, right?
Having underlings handle the tough stuff.
If the price gap with traps isn't huge, minions seem like the win.
Ever raised an animal?
Nope
I was too busy scraping by to own a pet.
I'd pet my friend's dog sometimes, but never raised one myself.
Simple explanation:
You gotta feed 'em, clean their shit, take 'em for walks or play to keep stress low—regularly.
Can't do that?
They'll growl and bite you.
Fine for small dogs lol
But dungeon guardians need combat power. No power = no point raising. Could even backfire and choke you out.
Aha.
So minions aren't tireless, unpaid 24/7 workers?
And if the minion's smart?
Worst case scenario.
You can see it here.
No Subordinates Only Me dropped a link in the comment.
I clicked it, and a post popped up.
Title: Dunbung is really f*cked.....
Writer: Elelelelele
The human minion I mentioned before dragged all the other minions and rebelled right at my door—what do I do...
I explained over and over that the mana stones in the dungeon are basically my lifeline, but they kept whining for wages??
I told 'em to f*ck off and even whipped 'em, but instead of learning, they staged a coup... f*ck, gotta fistfight now, can't answer questions. NEVER hire and raise smartasses like dickheads...
F*ck my dungeon life
Is this guy even alive...
No activity since.
Rest in peace.
Rest in peace.
...
...
Reading that post, I vowed never to hire minions unless absolutely necessary.
We call this "got revolutioned."
Truth is, raising minions is easier than self-growth?
System favors it efficiency-wise, but don't make ones you can't control. Pro tip.
There are ones without ego or biological needs like automatons or undead, as Golem King said.
But they're pricey base and have flaws. Best not to summon till you set a theme.
What's a dungeon theme?
System that cheapens or adds specific minions/traps/skills per theme. Decide later.
Winter, death, chaos, hell, ancient, cave, sea, kingdom, coal mine, steampunk, tons more.
No point unless you're buying theme stuff now, so take your time. With 5000 points, barely any options anyway and they're trash.
Got it.
Everything's clicking into place.
Anyway, if I were you: Lay basic traps, dump rest into self-growth, only summon minions if desperate.
Pick theme around 10k points, use New DM bonus—stats first.
It's someone else's problem, but I felt real gratitude for these guys taking time to explain so thoroughly.
Thanks so much for the info. If I survive the wave and last long, I'll pay you back somehow.
So what's Newbie-chan's race??
Human ㅇㅇ
Gasp!!!???
Newbie yamm
We frien dly frien dly frie nds????
Human-Lover Dog's typing went weird.
Is that the Human-Lover Dog I think it is?
We'll forgive our newbie even if Human-Lover Dog ㅇㅇ...
Lol...
Guess humans get treated like scum here too.
Can I ask one more for real last time?
Of cou rse our New bie yam!
Yeah
ㅇㅇ
ㅇㅇ
What the—they're back already?
Reconciled and back.
Fightfuckmakeupfightfuckmakeupfightfuckmakeup
No f*cking you dipshit
Anyway.
Following the vets' advice is the smart play, but the big issue is handling trolls.
That's when a pretty innovative idea hit me.
I asked the vets what they thought.
Whoa????
Ooh, this is actually surprising.
Might actually work...
Theory says it could even take a troll??
First guy's ever to burn starting points on that...
Masterstroke.
Genius.
Whoa what are you, a genius?
Agreed.
Waaaah... Could you reply to me just once...
Replied!
Tha thank youuuuu!!!!
Hmm... DunGal newbie average??
Great idea.
Our New bie so sma rt!
The reaction wasn't bad at all.
