The Sword Sovereign Returns
The world of Murim had fallen into ruin at the hands of the Heavenly Demon Cult.
Countless sects and clans had been trampled beneath their iron heels. The once-proud warriors of the righteous path were reduced to nothing more than scattered ashes. Rivers of blood flowed through the Central Plains, and the cries of the fallen echoed endlessly through the mountains.
In the heart of that desolate battlefield, a lone man stood atop a mountain of corpses.
His black robes were torn and soaked in blood—both his enemies’ and his own. A broken sword hung loosely in his grip, its blade chipped and cracked beyond repair. Yet his eyes still burned with unyielding defiance.
This is the end… he thought bitterly. Everything I fought for… everything I protected… it’s all gone.
The sky above was dyed a sickly crimson, as if the heavens themselves mourned the fall of Murim. Dark clouds swirled ominously, and thunder rumbled like the laughter of cruel gods.
From the blood-soaked horizon, a single figure approached.
Even from a distance, his presence was overwhelming. The very air seemed to twist and darken around him. He walked with the absolute confidence of one who had already conquered the world.
Cheonma.
The leader of the Heavenly Demon Cult. The man who had single-handedly brought Murim to its knees.
“So this is where you crawled off to die, Sword Sovereign,” Cheonma sneered, his voice dripping with mocking arrogance. “How pathetic. The so-called greatest swordsman of this era, reduced to a broken dog hiding among the dead.”
"This seat has already conquered the Central Plains. Your pathetic resistance ends here. Kneel, and this seat may grant you a swift death."
The man—once known throughout Murim as the Sword Sovereign—lifted his head slowly. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, but his gaze remained sharp as a freshly honed blade.
“Conquered?” he rasped, a weak laugh escaping his lips. “You’ve only destroyed. You’ve turned the world into a graveyard. There is no glory in ruling over corpses, Cheonma.”
Cheonma’s eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint flashing within their depths. “Still barking even at death’s door. How tiresome. This seat shall enjoy crushing that worthless pride of yours.”
He raised a single hand. Demonic energy surged around him like a living storm—black, oppressive, and suffocating. The very ground trembled beneath the weight of his power.
The Sword Sovereign closed his eyes.
If only I could go back…
If I had another chance… I would protect them all. My family. My comrades. The world itself.
I would cut down anyone who dares threaten what is mine.
A single tear slipped down his bloodied cheek as the final attack descended.
Then everything went white.
—
When consciousness returned, the first thing he noticed was the warmth of sunlight on his face.
Sunlight?
His eyes snapped open.
He was lying in a simple wooden bed inside a familiar room. The scent of old books and medicinal herbs filled the air. Morning light streamed through the paper-lined windows, casting gentle patterns across the floor.
This… this was his childhood home. The small courtyard residence of the Yeon Clan in Hubei Province.
“What…?” he whispered, voice hoarse.
He sat up slowly, heart pounding. His hands—small, smooth, unscarred—trembled as he stared at them. The calluses earned from decades of sword training were gone. The old wounds, the broken fingers, the scars from a thousand battles… all of them had vanished.
He rushed to the bronze mirror hanging on the wall.
A young face stared back at him. Sixteen years old at most. Sharp features, clear eyes, and hair tied in a simple topknot. The face of Yeon Mu-hyuk before he had become the Sword Sovereign.
“This can’t be…”
Memories flooded his mind like a bursting dam. The fall of the righteous sects. The desperate final stand. The overwhelming power of Cheonma. His own death.
And then… a second chance.
He had returned. To the past. To the very beginning of everything.
A slow, fierce smile spread across his youthful face.
“Cheonma…” he murmured, voice low and filled with killing intent that no sixteen-year-old should possess. “This time, things will be different. I will not let history repeat itself. I will become stronger than you could ever imagine. I will protect my family. I will unite Murim. And when the time comes…”
His eyes burned with absolute resolve.
The Sword Sovereign had returned.
And this time, he would rewrite fate itself.
