Hunting the Fly-Class
One of the terrifying things about Mogs was the existence of special individuals.
Humanity classified them by the waves they emitted, using boxing weight classes from the Olympics as the standard.
From the weakest Fly-class to the most powerful Super Heavyweight, there were eight ranks.
That didn't mean Fly-class was weak, though.
Just like a magnitude 3 earthquake wasn't weak.
So those powerful individuals were disasters in their very existence.
Beings to avoid rather than confront!
And that was why Mogs were so fearsome—why humanity had to grit its teeth and hunt them down.
Even Fly-class made them tremble like this—what if a Super Heavyweight appeared?
What if that Super Heavyweight wasn't a Mogdog but something like a Behemoth, a walking catastrophe?
In that case, it made sense to take it out the moment you spotted it.
Of course, this wasn't common sense for ordinary Space Marines.
Only one group among humanity treated it as such.
Psykers.
"Commencing Fly-class hunt."
Major Lee Hye-na issued the order to hunt the Fly-class Mogdog without a hint of hesitation.
Of course, she knew it too.
That this was beyond the pale for Space Marines.
So as she gave the command, she prepared herself.
A terrified soldier is a liability. If they want to run, I'll let them.
She was ready to let those two go.
No regrets.
They should be grateful just for being saved.
She owed them a deep debt for responding to the rescue signal the moment HQ fell and pulling her out.
She had no intention of using her benefactors however she pleased.
In other words, Major Lee Hye-na was certain.
Those two would hesitate.
"Private Park Bo-seop."
"Private Park Bo-seop!"
"Set up the emergency air tent immediately and prep a Battle Suit."
"Yes?"
But contrary to Major Lee Hye-na's expectations, Kim Seo-jun showed no such signs.
"Major, you don't have your dedicated gear right now. At the very least, we need to provide you with a Space Marine Battle Suit. Move fast—time's short."
He even took the most necessary action in this situation.
Major Lee Hye-na's face showed her surprise.
"Yes, sir!"
In the meantime, Private Park Bo-seop pulled out the crate containing the air tent and yanked the pin on its side.
Truth be told, Private Park Bo-seop knew it too.
This was insane.
But after going through hell with Kim Seo-jun, Private Park Bo-seop had learned one thing crystal clear.
Sergeant Kim's orders? Follow first, think later.
If you wanted to survive, you could ignore your parents, but never Sergeant Kim.
Pssshhh!
As Private Park Bo-seop activated the air tent, a specially made vinyl shelter burst out of the crate and rapidly inflated.
It was for true emergencies—like when you had to operate without a Battle Suit right away.
Exactly what Major Lee Hye-na needed most now.
Not all psykers could survive the void of space bare-skinned, and she wasn't one of them. Naturally, she needed a space to change out of her medical suit into a Battle Suit.
The preparations moved quickly.
While Private Park Bo-seop grabbed the Battle Suit, Kim Seo-jun hauled the medical suit from the military truck back toward the air tent.
He didn't ask any questions during the process.
His only question came after the air tent was set up, after Major Lee Hye-na entered, shed the medical suit, donned the Battle Suit, and emerged.
"Major, forgive my impertinence. You don't have to answer. What’s your ability?"
To that, Major Lee Hye-na replied not with a Space Marine rifle, but by gripping an axe.
"Super strength."
At that moment, they heard it.
Kirrrriririr!
The Fly-class Mogdog's howl.
4.
The Mogdog was pretty big.
Two meters long, with four dog-like legs not enough—it had an extra grasshopper leg.
Simply put, it felt like a compact car.
Even against bulked-up Space Marines in Battle Suits, it didn't lack presence.
Kirrrririr!
And a Fly-class Mogdog was on another level from regular ones, starting with its weight class.
As mentioned before, if a normal Mogdog was a compact car, a Fly-class felt like a subcompact—but with way more power.
The aura was different.
Its combat style too.
Regular Mogdogs were rabid dogs—hence the "dog" in the name. They charged at anything in sight, heedless if their bodies shredded apart.
Kirrrririr!
But this Fly-class didn't charge.
It stood in place and screeched.
Kieeeek!
It just watched the other Mogdogs rush in.
A display of confidence.
And intimidation.
It had to be special in every way.
And humanity had its own special individuals.
Like Major Lee Hye-na.
She charged at the onrushing Mogdogs—the monsters unfazed by powerful Space Marine gunfire—with nothing but a single axe, no gun.
And it wasn't even a combat axe.
Space Marines weren't issued axes as weapons, period.
Swinging an axe at Mogs that bullets couldn't handle was suicide, and for suicide, cheaper and more portable options like cyanide abounded.
So the standard axes were for serious construction or disaster recovery after sudden natural calamities.
Built solely for destructive power and durability, they were massive.
Even Space Marines in strength-enhancing Battle Suits swung them with full effort.
They'd stagger from a single chop.
Plus, Amotia's gravity was 1.33G—heavier than Earth's.
But Major Lee Hye-na was different.
She gripped the axe one-handed and swung it one-handed.
And not just swung—it blurred too fast for the eye to easily follow.
Kwajik!
Fast enough to shatter two charging Mogdog heads in one strike.
It was a wondrous sight.
One that made you doubt if what you saw was real.
The enabler was the Prophet's Relic surgically implanted in Major Lee Hye-na's chest.
It granted her immense superhuman strength.
Strength that made gorillas look like a joke.
That was why psykers received humanity's highest honors.
Of course, not every psyker became like her.
She was elite among them.
Yellow Beginner level—capable of group missions on Yellow-grade planets.
On Orange-grade like Amotia, she operated solo.
That was why she was here, and she proved it with her body.
Kwajik!
Mogdogs turned to mush under her one-handed axe swings.
Of course, hundreds swarmed, and standing like a post to fight them all was impossible.
She moved.
At full power.
Especially with jumps.
Her super strength made her leaps off the charts, letting her slip encirclements more easily than expected.
Soon, no regular Mogdogs filled her vision.
Only the Fly-class Mogdog, still screeching kirrrririr! to assert its dominance.
Nothing else.
She ignored the rest.
The two Space Marines did the same.
No interest.
Tututututu!
Gunfire rained, but it was like spraying a raging inferno with a fire extinguisher.
That notion changed fast.
Tututututu!
Relentless gunfire—blind full-auto trigger pulls, to any observer.
Thud!
In the midst of it, as she leaped, Major Lee Hye-na saw it.
The numbers are down?
The Mogdog count had noticeably thinned.
She first thought it a trick of the eye, but each leap confirmed it—they were dropping fast.
At that point, Major Lee Hye-na couldn't help but notice.
That sergeant?
Sergeant Kim Seo-jun—whose name she hadn't fully memorized yet—was doing something utterly impossible.
Tututututu!
Openly, without hiding his skill.
To Kim Seo-jun, it was obvious.
No point in hiding it.
He knew this was beyond common sense.
Unreasonable, sure.
Showing this ability would invite suspicion.
He might end up dissected somewhere later. Life was unpredictable, right?
...All worries from that can wait till we're alive.
But Kim Seo-jun knew such concerns were luxuries in a Space Marine's life.
This wasn't the time for a re-enlisted Marine to hide his power.
He gladly unleashed 100% of his capacity.
Tututu!
Trigger non-stop.
And this was a golden opportunity for him.
Vrooom!
First off, he had excellent driver Private Park Bo-seop securing mobility.
Kwajik!
Plus, all the swarming Mogdogs fixated on Major Lee Hye-na.
Kim Seo-jun just aimed, waited for the red dot, and fired.
Mogdog defeated. Acquired 2 points.
One-shot kill. Bonus points for one-shot one-kill: 4 points awarded.
He made sure to rack up points too.
Obviously, Kim Seo-jun was aware in that moment.
We have to take down the Fly-class Mogdog.
That rampaging disaster.
That was when it happened.
"Sergeant!"
Major Lee Hye-na's voice came through the earpiece in his Battle Suit, amid her smashing Mogdog skulls on the battlefield.
"Sergeant Kim Seo-jun."
He gave his name first.
Because he knew she didn't know it yet.
Nothing strange about that.
Psykers operated on a different plane from regular Space Marines like him.
Remembering a newbie's name right after meeting? That'd be the weird part.
"Sergeant Kim Seo-jun."
So he told her gladly, and in return, she showed her own courtesy.
"Don't worry about me. Just shoot."
She trusted his skill.
Private Park Bo-seop, listening on the comms, looked stunned.
My God.
He didn't know psykers well, but he'd heard advice from seniors.
Don't expect human treatment from psykers.
Yet here one was, acknowledging Sergeant Kim?
Shocking on every level.
Kim Seo-jun, though, was unfazed.
"Thank you."
No gratitude or surprise on his face as he said it curtly.
He knew it wasn't the time, and besides, this wasn't his first rodeo.
He'd gotten psyker nods before—not for combat prowess, but stuff like Whoa, you're buying that?
Still, recognition was recognition.
More importantly, he knew now wasn't for getting emotional.
This fight's outcome didn't hinge on how many regular Mogdogs they bagged.
If we don't get the Fly-class Mogdog, we're wiped out.
The battle would be decided by that Fly-class.
And Kim Seo-jun wasn't optimistic about it.
He didn't underestimate Major Lee Hye-na.
She's at least Yellow Beginner level, from what I see.
Far from underestimating—he was shocked a psyker agent like her was here.
A Fly-class Mogdog should be no problem for her.
With that firepower, in normal conditions, this wouldn't be a big issue.
If she were fully armed.
The problem: she was in a generic Space Marine Battle Suit, not her custom gear.
Psykers had dedicated equipment—exquisite, rare-material masterpieces.
She hadn't grabbed hers in the chaos, and that gap was huge.
Especially since Fly-class durability outclassed regulars.
My rifle won't land solid hits.
Standard Space Marine automatics struggled for lethal damage.
Meaning her axe had penalties too.
This fight would be brutal.
I have a playable hand—no need to take risks.
But Kim Seo-jun had an ace.
A way to end this easier than expected.
Not some genius strat only a Dr. Space-level brain could devise.
Dead simple.
Even a needle pierces if you stab the same spot enough times.
Precision shooting one spot.
Easy in theory, impossible in practice.
Hard enough to hit targets in chaos—focusing one spot?
Even beyond his current skill.
That was why.
Kirrrririr!
As the silent Fly-class finally moved, and Major Lee Hye-na geared up for the real fight, Kim Seo-jun spoke.
"Requesting permission to use Steam Pack."
