They Still Don't Know What Kind of Person the Streamer Is

Our destination today was Ribagar, the highest and coldest mountain peak in Niblord.
“Inquisitor. It’s seriously too cold. Are you sure this is right?”
Before I knew it, the time had reached seven thirty. Thirteen people had gathered at the spot I’d mentioned. With seventeen viewers watching my stream, that meant everyone except four had shown up. For some reason the Lene fans were flooding the chat with complaints, yet the fact that they’d stayed behind made it feel like they were just grumbling for the sake of it.
…Ah. Come to think of it, I’d told everyone to gather but never actually said where we were going.
You're all watching the stream, right?
At my question the thirteen people who had gathered all nodded. The New Dimension voice chat was… turned off. Thank goodness.
“…Ah, um. Then I’ll just say it out loud. Please don’t turn off the stream audio, okay? So, um, the place we’re heading to today is… over there.”
Speaking in front of this many people made my chest tighten with nerves, but I managed to point toward Ribagar with a trembling finger.
The chat window was instantly flooded with laughter, and the Lene fans around me all let out heavy sighs. Why were the reactions so negative? They were going to be shocked once they saw it for themselves.
“…Um, can I go back?”
“Ah, well… you came all this way, so maybe you could at least try going together…”
“I’m already freezing…”
Everyone kept saying the same thing. To be honest, I didn’t really understand what they meant by it being so cold. It was definitely chilly, but not to the point where you couldn’t endure it.
“…Is it really that cold here?”
“You all lack perseverance. Honestly, this isn’t even cold…”
I could confidently say the eastern snow mountains I’d visited while fighting dragons were twice as freezing. Besides, New Dimension had a sensory blocking system. I genuinely didn’t understand what they were complaining about.
“I’m not acting tough, it really isn’t cold…”
“Excuse me, Miss Lene?”
While I was reading chat, someone suddenly spoke from behind me.
“Eek?!”
I flinched in surprise, but then remembered that everyone here was a Lene fan. Right. It was fine. They didn’t know who I was. My face was covered so they couldn’t see what I looked like. They were people who liked my stream and had come to support me.
“Y-yes…?”
“What level did you set your sensory block to?”
The person asking with an awkward smile received an honest answer.
“I didn’t turn it on at all…”
“Come on, stop joking.”
“She’s way too much of a tryhard.”
Since no one believed me, a good idea popped into my head.
“Everyone, there are thirteen of you here excluding me, which means four people are just watching the stream without coming… right?”
“That’s correct, yes?”
“Then I’ll show you right now that I really have my sensory block turned completely off. If it’s true, how about the four who didn’t come join us? And everyone currently here has to promise not to leave midway…”
“And if it is turned on?”
“I’ll buy chicken for every single person watching the stream right now.”
Everyone in chat except ‘Lainel’ agreed. When I looked around, the thirteen people gathered nearby were nodding too. Well, from their perspective there was nothing to lose by accepting. Even the person who had said they wanted to leave earlier had been lured by the chicken and was now mixed in with the other fans.
“Then everyone except Lainel, please write your usernames in chat beforehand…”
Once the bet was ready, I opened the menu UI and placed my finger on the game settings tab.
“As you can all see, I haven’t touched anything, right…?”
The fans were already certain of their victory. I decided it was time to kindly teach them the truth.
When I pressed the settings tab, the very first option was of course the sensory block system.
Sensory Block:0 Stage (Off)
It was clearly marked as 0 Stage (Off). Proof that it was disabled.
“…Huh?”
The wave of confusion was so thick I could feel it through the screen. So just believe me from the start. I don’t lie about things like this.
As expected of one of my very first regular viewers, Lainel had me completely figured out. Anyway, excluding the one survivor, Lainel, our Ribagar expedition party now totaled seventeen people including myself. Well, it was basically just a short hike, so calling it an expedition felt a little exaggerated.
The moment he learned the location for Lene’s viewer participation event was Niblord, he had zero intention of joining. There were two reasons. First, he knew exactly how cold Niblord was. Second, the character he mainly played in New Dimension was a Priest.
Sensory Block:0 Stage (Off)
But after getting lured by the promise of chicken, he ended up reluctantly joining the Niblord journey he had never wanted any part of.
“What do I do…”
It wasn’t that he didn’t have an alt character. But the fact that its specs were so pitiful wounded his pride. Of course no one, not even Lene, would have cared, but a man’s pride always showed up in exactly the places where no one else cared.
“I don’t know anymore, fuck it.”
In the end, pride won over reason and he decided to go with his main Priest character. After rationalizing it to himself with ‘They’re the ones who forced me to come even though I said I wouldn’t,’ he logged into New Dimension as his Priest and immediately headed for Niblord. The fact that he had been the first one to fall for the chicken bribe had already been erased from his memory.
…Oh? A heretic, I see.
The instant he arrived in Niblord, he heard Lene’s voice that somehow sounded like she was smiling, followed by the sight of a warhammer swinging toward him.
CLANG!
Character has been crushed.
It didn’t take long for his head to be pulverized.
Ah, since it’s a heretic I’ll ban you for three minutes….
Lene was thorough even with the final confirmation kill.
It was truly unfortunate that the last viewer to arrive turned out to be a heretic. Still, I had definitely smashed his head in, so all I could do was hope he would repent on his own.
“Mmm…”
With the heretic removed, that left sixteen people including myself. Just in case, I invited all fifteen others into a party. Thankfully no heretic had tried to trick me by changing their outfit.
“We’ll be setting off soon, but first I’ll hand these out…”
What I distributed to them were the consumable items called Skadi’s Tears. In Niblord you could get the status ailment ‘frostbite’ because of the freezing wind. Skadi’s Tears cured frostbite and granted frostbite immunity for thirty minutes.
Honestly I still didn’t quite understand how you could get frostbite when it wasn’t even that cold, but since it was part of the game system there was nothing I could do about it.
“Then before we really set off, if you have any last questions please speak up…”
The one who raised their hand was the magic swordsman fan standing on the left.
“Ah, yes. Mr. ‘Arang’…?”
“Are you really not cold? Or does that full-plate armor have some kind of cold resistance effect?”
The other fans looked at me with eyes full of suspicion. Had they really been deceived so many times in their lives? I was telling the truth when I said it wasn’t that cold.
…Ah.
“Then would you all like to try turning off your sensory block like me…? I’m not lying, it really isn’t that cold…”
“We’re sorry…”
No, why…
