I'll Make Sure You Repent Properly
The thought kept circling in my head. I had to make sure I helped her repent properly.
New Dimension’s PVP rank matches begin with ten placement games the first time you play. The system uses your normal game record, previous season rank, and placement win rate as data to gauge your skill level fairly.
Since I had never once touched PVP ranked before, the normal game record and placement win rate were what mattered most. One of the viewers told me my normal game stats sat at 155 matches with 52 wins and 103 losses. Honestly, it was an embarrassingly low win rate. That was exactly why the initial matchmaking had taken forever. My MMR was completely wrecked because I couldn’t even break fifty percent.
On top of that, PVP in New Dimension already had a smaller player pool, so queue times were naturally longer. …But because the matchmaking dragged on so much, I ironically ended up facing a B-grade heretic right from the first placement match. After I won that game, the next opponent was also B-grade.
Placement matches shower you with points for every win, and for someone like me who had never ranked at all, keeping up a win streak would apparently make climbing ranks as easy as pie. Especially when the opponents were higher rank than my MMR. Well, assuming I actually won, of course.
Anyway, that was how my current PVP record reached 10 wins out of 10 matches. A perfect 100% win rate.
A-grade 98 Points
In other words, it was only natural that my rank came out so high. No explanation needed.
“How high exactly is this…?”
But the person in question—me—had zero knowledge about ranks, so no matter how much the viewers praised me, it didn’t really sink in.
Top 0.5%. It was higher than I thought. One more win would bring me to A-grade 100 points and unlock the promotion match. Winning three there would promote me to S-grade. From S-grade onward, points kept rising past 100, and if you landed in the top 500, you hit Ex-grade.
“Hmm…”
I won’t lie; the thought of rushing straight to S-grade did cross my mind. But I had already been streaming for nearly two hours and felt more exhausted than expected. I never felt this drained when I just played New Dimension by myself. Constantly checking the chat atmosphere was mentally taxing. Having to communicate steadily was another big factor.
So let’s call it here for today.
“I’ll stop here for today…”
For some reason the chat atmosphere turned hostile. Did they really want to see me reach S-grade that badly? But I was genuinely too tired. No can do.
“Everyone, take care…”
I set the camera so my full-plate armor avatar faced forward, waved goodbye, and ended the stream.
The chat burst into flames the moment I left, as if disappointed. I felt a tiny bit sorry myself… but I was exhausted. Couldn’t be helped.
Before I stepped out of the reverse capsule, I checked the numbers. Today’s average viewer count was 18. Followers had climbed to 23. The growth rate was incredible. The New Dimension Gallery’s influence was huge, of course, but at this pace I might escape small-time streamer status soon. Even though I didn’t want to get my hopes up, my imagination kept running wild.
“Ugh…”
I climbed out of the capsule, stretched, then sat at my desk and booted up the computer. Of course I could browse the gallery and OnTube inside the capsule too, but nothing beat using a proper PC for internet surfing.
The first site I opened was the New Dimension PVP record search page a viewer had mentioned. I typed in my nickname and every PVP match I had ever played appeared.
Class:Inquisitor
Rank:A-grade (Top 0.48%)
Total Record:165 matches • 62 wins • 103 losses
Rank Record:10 matches • 10 wins • 0 losses
“Oh…”
They had said top 0.5% earlier, but it was actually 0.48%. I’d heard A-grade started at top 5%, so A-grade roughly covered the top 0.5% to 5% skill range. Seeing the exact numbers made the achievement feel real.
After roughly confirming my PVP skill, I moved on to the next routine: visiting the New Dimension Gallery. I started with the concept posts…
【Title: Hello, Wandering Inquisitor-nim!!!】(23)
【Title: Let's Investigate That Bastard's Gallery History】(51)
【Title: The One Guy Who Stayed Consistent No Matter What…】(39)
【Title: Why the Hell Are You Using a Voice Changer? Are You Actually a Creep?】(19)
【Title: So the Conclusion Is That Wandering Bastard Kicked Out All the Priest Newbies?】(11)
…Yeah. Maybe I should skip checking concept posts today. Just looking at the titles felt like knives stabbing my chest. People who are ahead of their time are always persecuted, sure, but this was a bit much…
Let’s ignore the concept section and check the regular posts for reactions to the stream. Most of today’s viewers had probably come from the gallery anyway.
【Why does the Inquisitor use a voice changer?】(4)
【Why are you guys even watching that voice-changer creep's stream】(2)
【Placement A-grade 98 points lol】(4)
【Thinking there's a dude behind that voice makes me sick】(6)
As expected. Plenty of posts about the voice changer. The most common question was why I bothered using one. But that was part of my strategy. Pull in viewers with the voice changer gimmick first, build up a core audience, then reveal that I’m actually a girl. Wouldn’t that create a huge buzz?
The legendary Inquisitor who never gave up on heretics in New Dimension and kept trying to make them repent was actually a girl?! Something like that. Viewership would skyrocket. Mm. I came up with it myself, but it really is a perfect plan.
Aside from that, there were also posts about the PVP rank. Thankfully the overall mood didn’t seem too negative.
While I was browsing the gallery posts, a call came from Tyuni. Honestly I was already so tired I wanted to collapse into bed, but she was my internet streaming mentor. I couldn’t just ignore her.
Ding!
“Hello?”
“Hello…”
I held back a yawn and greeted her as her bright voice rang out with the sound effect. I didn’t want to make her worry.
“You were just streaming, right? I was streaming too so I couldn’t watch, but some of the people in my chat told me about it.”
“Ah, yes…”
“Was streaming okay? I feel bad that I couldn’t help much since I’m still a small streamer myself…”
“Um, it went pretty well, I think. Your advice helped a lot too…”
…Maybe I shouldn’t have picked up. She really was a professional streamer; the words just kept flowing. It felt even more exhausting because I was already tired.
“That’s a relief. I thought about watching that first broadcast… or should I call it the second one? But the timing didn’t quite work out.”
“…Should I send you the VOD? I was thinking it would be good to get some feedback from you on today’s streams too…”
“Ah, well, I do have my own schedule…”
“Ah, I’m sorry…”
“No, no, it’s fine. You just started, so there must be a lot of difficult parts. Hmm… but since you’re relying on me, I’ll watch the VOD on your channel before I sleep tonight and give you my thoughts.”
“Thank you…”
Tyuni really was a kind person. If only she weren’t a heretic in New Dimension, she would have been perfect…
“Oh. You must be tired after streaming until just now. I’ve kept you too long. Get some good rest, Lene. I’ll leave my feedback as a miscord message~.”
“You rest well too, Tyuni…”
She ended the call right after that. She pulled back before my mental fatigue hit its limit. The only shame was that she was a heretic. Next time I would definitely make sure she repented properly.
With that firm resolution, I shut down the computer and collapsed onto the bed.
When I woke up, a message from Tyuni was waiting, suggesting we meet in real life. …I wanted to refuse. Was there a nice way to turn her down?
In a dark room, a woman’s voice leaked out along with the faint glow of her phone screen.
“God… resides within all of your hearts….”
“She was really streaming like this…?”
From Tyuni’s throat as she watched the Inquisitor—Lene’s—broadcast came a voice filled with utter disbelief.
