17. The Archmage Babsae
Chae Ju-ah seemed unable to make sense of the situation.
She was definitely fighting a wyvern.
That much was clear, but then Ga-eun’s summoned creature, Babsae, appeared out of nowhere.
And then that Babsae suddenly turned into a human.
On top of that, it cast a spell that completely blocked the wyvern’s breath attack.

Chae Ju-ah was overwhelmed trying to keep up with what had just happened.
As if her brain were overloaded, her red eyes spun around in circles.
“Ugh, just stay right there.”

I cast a spell to push Chae Ju-ah to a secluded corner of the field.
She was just staring blankly into space, which didn’t seem like it would be much help.
Well, just in case, I cast a simple protective spell on her before sending her off.
Since it was Ga-eun’s request, I figured I should at least do that much.
“She only uses me when it suits her.”
She really was a self-serving apprentice.
But there’s nothing I can do about it.
What am I supposed to do now that I’ve already taken her on as an apprentice?
It’s not like I can turn back time or anything.
I grumbled to myself, thinking of Ga-eun, who had made this request.

It was just as I was lost in my own thoughts.
The low growl of the wyvern reached my ears.
It seemed angry that I dared to be distracted while it was right in front of me.
I glanced indifferently at the wyvern, which was radiating a fierce aura.
“If anyone’s going to get angry, it should be me. Why are you the one getting angry?”
It’s not like I came all this way because of you.
“You really are a ridiculous creature.”
With that, I summoned my mana once more.
White mana traced geometric patterns in the air.

The silver sword that had been fired from the hilt plummeted downward.
The sword, falling with a white trail in its wake, looked just like a shooting star.
It was a sight that anyone else would have called beautiful.
Of course, the perspective of someone actually getting hit by a shooting star might be quite different.
After all, getting struck by a falling shooting star would hurt quite a bit.

It was a colossal sound, on a completely different level from any explosion so far.
The wyvern, struck directly by the sword in midair, was obliterated without a trace.
All that remained were a few fragments of its hard scales.

As expected, a human body is definitely more convenient for casting magic like this.
It was definitely worth using Polymorph in front of Chae Ju-ah.
Anyway.
After descending from the air, I approached Chae Ju-ah, who was standing over in that corner.

“They evacuated to a safe zone and waited for the Gate to be cleared.”

It’s memory manipulation magic (semi-coercion), as expected.
It definitely works.
“Finally, what about Ga-eun’s sparrow?”
“It’s just a summoned creature.”
“Right, okay. You pass.”
I nodded in satisfaction and looked at Chae Ju-ah.
Well then, it looks like we’re almost done.
‘Cancel Polymorph’
I returned to my sparrow form.
It was a white sparrow, about the size of a fist, with a harmless appearance.
“Cheep, cheep, cheep. (Just follow me.)”

I turned toward where Ga-eun was.
I was able to find her easily thanks to the magic I’d left on the feather I’d given her earlier.

I mean, I can understand this happening in the Hunter Gallery, but…

Like, in some RPG, if you place a photo of Chae Ju-ah next to you instead of the director’s, you’ll get better enhancement drops.
