Attention Was Better Than Expected (2)
The moment Ente said that, a logo scrolled up on the screen behind Seolhwa.
Then Ente worked his remote, and a question appeared in bold letters.
"Alright, first question. Why did you choose the nickname Seolhwa?"
"Ah, that's my real name."
-Huh?
-Real name?
-She was a real-name warrior??
-Whawhawhaaat
"So it's your actual name…."
"Yes. I didn't have anything in particular I wanted to call myself, and it was a hassle, so I just went with my real name. Which means if you leave hate comments, you'll know exactly who to find. So watch yourselves."
-The law firm's favorite kind of nickname
-A genuine real-name warrior
Ente cleared his throat in flustered confusion and flipped to the next page of his script. It was hard to tell whether Seolhwa's deadpan expression was serious or a joke.
"Then, next question. A lot of people have been asking this one. What exactly is your weapon, Seolhwa? I've almost never seen a Legendary drop from the randomized weapon system."
When Ente asked, Seolhwa answered without so much as blinking.
"It's a weapon the Goddess gave me."
-Ah… yes, of course you did
-She really doesn't even blink when she says it
-At this point I'm curious which goddess it even was
Not letting the chat slip past him, Ente pressed on.
"Then could we possibly find out which goddess it was?"
"Hmm…."
Seolhwa feigned consideration for a moment, then spoke.
"Well. Do I really need to give her name? An obscure nobody of a goddess — even if I told you, you wouldn't recognize it."
She added this with a bored shrug of her shoulders.
-You're saying that to a goddess who gave you a weapon like THAT?
-Zero chill whatsoever
The chat window erupted in laughter at Seolhwa's unfiltered remarks. Ente, sitting beside her, on the other hand, was experiencing a full seismic event behind his pupils.
"Ah… hahaha! I see."
Ente flipped his cue card quickly and moved on to the next question.
"Next question. Last Promise is still a game with a lot of hidden content. A perfect example is the vigilante gate that all those streamers challenged over at ChiJik recently — and you've already discovered two more new ones. What's your secret?"
"Is there really such a thing as a secret?"
As if the question were asking something perfectly obvious, Seolhwa answered flatly.
"As I mentioned on my own stream, I'm a hunter who's been to another world. I just retraced my memories and went looking."
-Concept commitment skill: S-tier
-Gotta keep watching to see when the RP cracks
-Ah yes yes~ of course you remember~ sure~
"I see. Honestly, I've met dragons, squirrels, even aliens on stream, but an otherworld hunter is a first for me."
At Ente's good-natured joke, the chat flooded with 'lolololol'. Everyone assumed it was just the standard fictional-species persona that VTubers typically adopted.
"Ah, the squirrel — I think I've seen her too. Dori, was it?"
Ente seized on Seolhwa's remark immediately.
"Oh? You know Dori too, Seolhwa?"
"Judging by how casually you call her, you two must be close?"
"Ah, she's a friend who plays the same game I do, so I know her well."
"Same game, you say? Monster Hunters?"
"Yes, that's right!"
Ente was clearly delighted to finally have a point of common ground.
"Have you ever played it yourself?"
"No. Saving another world took precedence, so I've only heard of it."
"Ah, I see."
Ente made a great show of disappointment.
"Then how did you come to know about Dori?"
"Shall I answer honestly? Or with a bit of pretense mixed in?"
Ente put on his signature WWE-style blank expression.
"The moment you asked that question, the pretense lost all meaning."
"Ah. Does it?"
-This character is SO weird
-She actually asked that
"Then I'll be honest. Actually, before I started streaming, I was studying how to do this whole thing, and that's how I found her. But Dori's stream had a kind of bouncy, energetic feel to it. I figured we wouldn't be a good match. It still helped me settle on my own streaming direction, though. And I keep up with her because she's cute."
-Did she just say cute?
-What did we just witness?
-Girls like that are always into the cute ones
-Fr
-Also she learned streaming from a squirrel lol
-Dori's streams are genuinely good though
Hearing this, Ente snapped his fingers.
"I'll set up a meeting with Dori sometime."
"With me?"
"Actually, Dori's been thinking about starting Last Promise lately — she asked me about it. If you joined her as a newbie — no, a beginner's guide — it would be perfect!"
"Is that so. But in her older videos, her movement when she hunts monsters looked pretty decent."
"Hold on. Older videos?"
-She watched Dori's Monster Hunter videos??
-???
As the chat filled with shock and laughter, Seolhwa nodded calmly, as if she couldn't understand what all the fuss was about.
"Yes. I was scrolling down the channel's video list and found some old uploads, so I watched a few. Her dodge-roll timing and reflexes when avoiding tail sweeps were honestly quite good. With reflexes like that, she'd survive just fine in Last Promise."
-Squirrel dodge-roll performance: S-tier lololol
-She's evaluating a VTuber's game physicals as actual real combat capability lmaooo
"Then I'll go ahead and put a collab on the schedule."
"Any time works for me."
"Alright! That wraps up the Q&A — let's move on to today's main content!"
With Ente's declaration, the two of them transported to an empty dueling arena inside Last Promise. Hanging at Ente's waist was the Unique weapon he had poured four days and four sleepless nights into obtaining: the Seven Stars Sword.
"Today's main content! Learning swordsmanship!"
Seolhwa tilted her head at that.
"Swordsmanship? I'm an archer."
"Seolhwa, remember when you dropped 100,000 won on my stream and told me my Western fencing and this sword don't match?"
"Yes, I did say that."
"I'll be honest with you! I'm a ranked warrior who's been swinging swords since this game's early days, and getting swordplay pointers from a ranged DPS like you stung juuust a little! So today, I'm going to get a proper evaluation of whether it's really my swordsmanship that's the problem!"
Seolhwa borrowed a line she'd seen in another video.
"Butthurt?"
"No, I'm not."
-Ranked warrior's pride (got schooled by an archer)
-Wait, the streamer's a ranged DPS? How does she know swordsmanship?
-Ente, just sit down and learn already. Your opponent is a returnee.
-Signing up to get hit again, huh? Voluntary sandbag lmaooo
While the chat snickered, Seolhwa nodded as if it were no big deal.
"Then if you promise not to get angry, I'll tell you. Fair warning, though — it may be tedious and pedantic."
"Deal! I promise I won't get angry! Boring is fine!"
With that, Seolhwa pulled a chalkboard out of the dueling arena's built-in features.
"First question. Ente, have you ever formally studied swordsmanship?"
"Yes, I have. I used to do longsword as a hobby."
"Then when you first gripped that sword, you must have felt something different, right?"
Ente nodded.
"It's single-edged!"
"That's something anyone with functioning eyes knows."
-Paraphrasing: so all you've got is eyeballs?
-She is DEADLY serious
Seolhwa drew a straight line and a curved line on the chalkboard, one with each stroke of chalk.
"The longsword is a double-edged, straight-bladed weapon. Europe, where the longsword was mainly used, saw the rise of what we commonly call full plate armor in its later periods, which pushed the weapon toward forms better suited to thrusting than cutting."
At the earnest, chalk-tapping masterclass unfolding before him, Ente found himself nodding along in a daze.
-Suddenly it's Intro to Weapon Theory in here
-I'm getting a lecture on medieval European history on an internet stream
-Professor, you're going through the material way too fast
"Now then."
Seolhwa moved her chalk to the curved line.
"The Unique weapon you obtained, Ente — the Seven Stars Sword — is a Joseon-era hwando. Single-edged, with a gentle curve that's nearly straight. This is not a weapon for stabbing armor or mindlessly slamming down with brute force. It's a weapon specialized in using that curve to slice through in a single sliding motion."
Seolhwa set down the chalk and looked at Ente with that same impassive expression.
"But you grip this sword two-handed like a longsword and chop down with raw power. That's why the passive never gets to do its job."
-But hearing it laid out, that actually makes sense
-Either way it feels like whatever Ente says, he loses
Ente looked back and forth between the Seven Stars Sword in his hands and Seolhwa's chalkboard, struck dumb. It had been a flawless theoretical lecture — one that had dissected his bad habits with surgical precision, leaving no room for rebuttal.
The chalkboard vanished, and Ente rose from his seat.
"Your theory is… flawless. Yes, it really was tedious and pedantic, but it's so airtight I can't argue with a word of it."
"Glad it landed. Well, hearing a hundred times isn't as good as seeing once, so let me show you in practice. Attack me."
At Seolhwa's words, Ente panicked.
"Wait — no, I mean, I'm a ranked warrior in name at least… and you're an archer, Seolhwa? Couldn't we at least put some distance—"
"No. Just come at me."
Seolhwa drew a small dagger from her inventory.
Sorry, but the swordsmanship I've watched was at least three times faster than yours.
"Here I come, then!"
Gripping his sword in both hands, Ente charged.
