I'll Find Her and Bury Her for Good
Elisa stood before her, radiating pure chaos and madness. The look in her eyes suggested she might commit murder at any moment. Watching this scene unfold, Rebekah racked her brain as hard as she could and finally offered what she believed was the most appropriate response.
“U-um… well, you see… First, please calm down a little, Lady Elisa. It’s true that the commander just said something that sounded like a confession, but we don’t know anything about the circumstances. We have no idea who that person is, or whether they actually accepted the confession afterward.”
“!... Th-that’s… true, but…”
Even while speaking in a trembling voice, Rebekah somehow managed to present a logical argument. Elisa began to rein in her heightened emotions slightly. Seeing this, Rebekah continued speaking in an effort to calm her down as much as possible.
“It… it could just be a simple misunderstanding. And even if it isn’t, wouldn’t the correct course of action be to first find out who the other party is before taking any measures? It’s not wise to act recklessly when the strategic objective remains unclear.”
“Mmm…”
Listening to Rebekah—who, despite her young age, spoke with surprising clarity—Elisa gradually realized just how overly excited she had become. As the girl had said, she lacked far too much information about what had just happened. She needed to gather the full context as clearly as possible first.
Just as Rebekah said, I need to figure out exactly what happened. Did the hero really confess? Did the other person accept it? And… if they did accept it, who the hell is that bitch…?
Several faces immediately came to mind. Given the current situation, the woman in question had most likely captured the hero’s heart while Elisa had been temporarily away from his side serving as one of the Demon King’s royal guards. Or perhaps a connection had formed during the postwar cleanup and the modest commemorative events that followed.
Among those who had interacted with the hero during that time, quite a few female demons possessed considerable beauty. They ranged from low-ranking soldiers to high-ranking demons, covering a wide spectrum. Some even held the same rank as her—other legion commanders or fellow royal guards.
From what I glimpsed, she seemed rather tall… but honestly, I was so out of my mind I couldn’t get a proper look.
If she had at least memorized the woman’s appearance, she could have identified her immediately—or realized who it was without needing to guess. However, no matter how hard she thought, no particularly distinctive features came to mind. In the end, despite groaning in frustration, Elisa failed to dig up anything useful.
Tsk… I should have checked who the other person was before getting so worked up. I completely lost my head and missed such crucial details…
For a brief moment, she considered going back right now to confirm the woman’s identity, but it was highly likely the pair had already left the area. Having acted so impulsively under the sway of emotion, Elisa began to regret losing such vital information.
Of course, if the hero started openly dating someone soon, she would be able to identify the person immediately. But that possibility seemed rather low. A man and woman secretly nurturing their affection was an extremely common occurrence even in the Demon Kingdom. In the worst case, the day she heard about their relationship might turn out to be their wedding day. Elisa instinctively sensed that discovering the identity of the hero’s confession partner would require considerable effort.
Still, no matter who the opponent was, no matter how impressive her family background might be—there was one thing that remained crystal clear.
Elisa had absolutely no intention of backing down.
As a member of one of the most prestigious families in the Demon Kingdom, Elisa knew her position well. Her mother, Ilios, sat among the legion commanders, and she herself held the important role of royal guard. She was not someone who needed to yield to anyone else.
With that confidence as her foundation, Elisa directed the burning lava-like rage still churning in her chest—though not as explosively as before—toward the unidentified thieving cat.
I don’t know which bold bitch you are, but I have no intention of letting you steal the hero. You’d better prepare yourself. I will find you and bury you so thoroughly that you’ll never crawl back out.
In nations like the Empire or the Magic Kingdom, things might be different, but in the Demon Kingdom, taking concubines was strictly forbidden by principle. This was partly due to the historically high proportion of female monarchs, and partly because maintaining chastity among those in power had become an established tradition.
The rule was that one person could only have one spouse. Anything beyond that was considered adultery and treated as a sin. The concept of sharing love simply could not exist here.
Winner takes all.
In other words, the one who won would claim everything completely. That was how romance worked in the Demon Kingdom.
And in that regard… Elisa was beginning to feel that she had now entered a war from which she could not retreat. A war to seize the ‘love’ she had experienced for the first time.
On the other hand, while Rebekah had managed to prevent Elisa from running wild for the time being, she could clearly see that the girl was still sharpening her blade internally. Having extinguished the immediate fire, Rebekah began to sense that the danger had not truly disappeared. A deep sigh filled with both concern and relief escaped her.
Well… judging by the atmosphere, all sorts of trouble is bound to erupt from now on, but I don’t need to worry about that part. At least this should prevent any immediate problems…
She had never had much connection with them to begin with, and today’s incident had only occurred by pure coincidence. Deciding that her role in this messy love triangle surrounding the hero ended here, Rebekah began to quietly withdraw.
“U-um… then I’ll be going now. I sincerely hope Lady Elisa’s love comes true.”
With those words, Rebekah carefully turned around and started to make her escape.
At that moment—
“Wait.”
“Y-yes?”
Elisa suddenly called out to her. The voice was so cold it felt like it carried a chill. Rebekah felt goosebumps rise all over her body and froze in place.
And then, turning to her, Elisa spoke in a voice laced with icy frost.
“You. You know you’re not allowed to tell anyone what happened today, right?”
“Ah… y-yes. O-of course… I do.”
Feeling as if her face might twitch with spasms, Rebekah forced a smile as she answered.
And watching her, Elisa displayed an utterly chilling smile at the corner of her lips and said,
“Good. Make sure you do exactly that. Because if this gets out, I don’t know what I might do to you.”
“O-of course! I-I absolutely! I will take this secret with me to the grave!”
At Rebekah’s words, Elisa broke into a bright smile. Sensing the terrifying coldness hidden within it, Rebekah desperately wanted to get away from this place as quickly as possible.
But then—
“Ah… and one more thing.”
“?”
“I’m sorry to ask, but if it’s alright with you, could we talk from time to time in the future? After all, you’re the hero’s adjutant. It should be easy for you to hear news from that side.”
“!!?!”
“I’m counting on you. That’s okay, right?”
Elisa asked Rebekah for this ‘favor’ with a smiling face. However, fully aware of the ‘threat’ concealed behind that smile, Rebekah understood that she had never been given any real choice.
“Y-yes. O-of course. How could I possibly dare refuse Lady Elisa’s request?”
“Hehe… Good. I’m truly grateful. If things go well later, I’ll make sure to repay you in various ways. I’ll contact you again soon.”
With those final words, Elisa left Rebekah standing there and vanished into the darkness.
The moment the source of the fear that had been strangling her heart finally disappeared, Rebekah collapsed right where she stood, feeling as if a blade had been hovering back and forth in front of her throat.
“Ha… fuck…”
A short curse automatically slipped from her lips. Then, covering her face with both hands, Rebekah began to lament the ridiculous fate she had been dealt.
“No… why the hell do I keep getting dragged into such shitty situations lately? I just wanted to make some decent connections and rise through the ranks. Why is my life like this… Huh?”
At that moment, a single thought suddenly flashed through her mind.
Rebekah, who had been drowning in nothing but despair, began to wonder if this situation wasn’t entirely bad.
Wait a second… Even though it’s a love triangle, this is still technically… a connection with someone far above my station that I normally wouldn’t even be able to look at directly… Plus, she said she’d reward me if I do a good job here…
Depending on how one looked at it, this could be seen as acquiring the very ‘connections’ she had always wanted as a working adult. Of course, the background was a sticky, messy love rivalry, but compared to the brutal political arena or the battlefield, it was practically civilized.
Yeah… let’s think positively. This is also a path toward success. If I play my cards right, I might be able to get what I want out of this.
Since she had already been marked by that terrifying Elisa, escaping unscathed was impossible anyway. With a slight spark of ambition, Rebekah made up her mind to diligently carry out various tasks for Elisa from now on.
Of course, separate from that, a deep fear of Elisa still lingered strongly in her heart. In truth, the primary force driving her actions was that very emotion—fear.
