The New Host is Too Good - Episode 41: Daughter
“Is she a medical school student?”
“How did you know?”
Jang Sun-young beamed with joy the moment Kim Namhu’s prediction landed exactly as she had hoped.
Kim Namhu simply told her the truth.
He was no magician, and there was no reason to keep his secret hidden now. Revealing it would only please her even more.
“Mind-reading is a technique in magic. It’s actually quite simple. You follow where the other person focuses and match their mind.”
In movies it looked like real telepathy, but in reality such skill was impossible. Still, a bookstore made the perfect environment for it.
Every book that caught Jang Su-young’s eye was a clear indicator of her personality.
Jang Su-young spent the most time in front of books on medicine.
Among them, the specialized ones written for professionals outnumbered the general health guides meant for laypeople.
If someone studies hard and mainly reads medical books, she has to be a medical student or someone aiming for it. And if she’s in her third year of high school or retaking the exam, her face would show strain. That’s impossible to hide. The only option left is a medical student.
“Correct. And there’s one more secret. Can you guess that too?”
Jang Sun-young seemed to save the second secret for later enjoyment.
But Kim Namhu revealed it right away.
“I was planning not to say because it might feel too much, but… she’s your daughter, isn’t she?”
“How did you know that?”
Jang Sun-young and Jang Su-young looked like sisters with a noticeable age gap just by appearance.
Kim Namhu, with his past-life memories, knew for certain that Jang Sun-young had no sisters.
So the only possibility was a young relative or her daughter.
‘But why would he introduce his daughter to a host?’
It made far more sense that the daughter, curious about the host her mother liked, would choose him.
‘Then she must have had a child at a very young age.’
Thinking about Jang Sun-young’s age, it meant she got pregnant before high school.
Her own life hadn’t been easy either.
Seeing how Jang Sun-young passed on her own name instead of her husband’s to her daughter, Kim Namhu could guess she had raised the child alone.
“How did you know?”
“That’s a secret.”
Kim Namhu smiled as he answered. He saw no need to explain anything from his past life.
Jang Sun-young moved closer to her daughter.
She told Kim Namhu everything he had guessed.
Jang Su-young had been browsing the shelves for a while before she came over and asked Kim Namhu.
“Mom didn’t tell you that, right?”
“No.”
Jang Su-young looked straight into Kim Namhu’s eyes, determined to uncover the truth.
Since he had said nothing false, Kim Namhu could only meet her gaze.
When her suspicion remained, he had no choice but to speak.
“You came because you heard Jang Sun-young has a man she’s seeing lately, right?”
Jang Su-young still looked suspicious.
Magic lost its mystery once the secret was revealed. Before that, it seemed endlessly mysterious.
Thankfully, Jang Su-young didn’t dislike Kim Namhu for correctly guessing everything about her.
She had begun to feel curious about his abilities.
Once curiosity took hold, a variety of expressions appeared on her usually calm face.
That was a sign she was starting to open her heart.
“Then how did you figure it out?”
Kim Namhu repeated the explanation he had given Jang Sun-young.
“I got goosebumps. Not in a bad way, though. It feels good.”
Jang Su-young’s eyes held the same warmth as her mother’s.
Seeing them together, anyone could tell they were mother and daughter.
Jang Su-young’s heart was racing from the shock.
She nodded and said, “Mom really has an irresistible charm. I was worried after hearing you met such a young man.”
It was only natural.
If Kim Namhu’s father had suddenly met a woman in her early twenties, he would have doubted everything.
One of two things would be true—his father had lost his mind or the woman was a snake. Both were obvious possibilities.
“Are hosts always that good at reading people?”
“Not all hosts are like me. Everyone has different specialties. The one I have is the ability to understand clients well. Knowing what they like and what they dislike in advance is very helpful.”
Being a host was never an easy job.
Without a specialty, you couldn’t survive in this industry.
On the surface it looked like a life on the edge, but inside, people fought desperately every single day.
Jang Su-young could imagine how much effort Kim Namhu had put in to develop such skill.
She had worked incredibly hard to enter medical school and understood the value of effort.
Such ability couldn’t be gained through talent alone.
Jang Su-young nodded and added, “Hosts are people who play with women, right?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“So it’s possible to have healthy fun without drinking?”
Kim Namhu glanced at Jang Sun-young for a moment.
Hosting both mother and daughter as clients was a bit strange for a host.
‘Not even a mother-and-daughter meal deal.’
But Jang Sun-young, who had worked at a Ten-Pro for a long time, seemed completely unbothered by the idea.
Jang Sun-young trusted both her daughter and Kim Namhu.
“This girl is meeting a guy for the first time. Keep the money with me and just have fun on your own. I was worried because she only studies all day. Help her out, Namhu.”
Jang Sun-young smiled.
Once her mother’s approval was given, Jang Su-young spoke again.
“Then I’ll contact you later. I have to go to school today.”
Kim Namhu nodded.
Since Jang Sun-young had given permission, there was no reason to refuse.
“Yes, I’ll wait for your call.”
**
After meeting Jang Su-young, Kim Namhu’s host work began to open up again.
Jang Sun-young brought several young ladies from the Ten-Pro she worked with and designated him as the choice.
“Today I’m paying, so eat as much as you want!”
The Ten-Pro young ladies cheered loudly.
They enjoyed expensive drinks without hesitation, but they loved free ones.
They could drink freely without worrying about the male client’s feelings, and Jang Sun-young’s reputation was outstanding.
The Ten-Pro young ladies brought in enormous revenue.
After that, the number of clients who chose Kim Namhu increased again.
If you had skill, even if sales dipped for a moment, it would recover quickly.
When Kim Namhu returned to the host waiting room, the senior hosts greeted him.
The one laughing the loudest was Jang Hyo-woon.
“Hey, our maknae. Did you have a good day today?”
“Yes. I got lucky.”
Kim Namhu’s words made Jang Hyo-woon hand him a cold iced americano.
“The sales for today will be tallied tomorrow, but they’ll be impressive. You brought in a whole group of regulars.”
“It’ll be a decent size.”
This wasn’t good only for Kim Namhu.
Because of the clear designation, all the alcohol costs were assigned to him, but one man couldn’t entertain all the women. Naturally, other hosts were brought in, so they received small table charges and tips as well.
“Well done. It’s good to all eat and live together like this.”
Jang Hyo-woon wondered what kind of charm Kim Namhu had used to suddenly get so lucky.
“So what did you do?”
“Huh?”
“Salt pouches, talismans, gold panties, women’s panties. I’ve heard all kinds of rumors.”
It felt amazing that he remembered every single thing people said while passing by.
“No. I didn’t do anything.”
“Really? Well, sometimes things just work out even without doing anything.”
At that moment a staff member opened the waiting room door and said, “I’m taking in a choice group.”
The hosts stood up one by one to receive the choice.
Kim Namhu did the same.
Today he had already made enough sales, but going out eagerly was the only way to catch new luck.
Jang Hyo-woon patted Kim Namhu’s shoulder and said, “You’re always so diligent. Other newbies should all be like this. Okay? Good luck today.”
“Yes. Good luck.”
Kim Namhu entered a private room with the other hosts.
The client was a woman who had come alone.
The hosts each delivered their signature lines and waited for the client to choose.
The woman ignored the lines and approached the hosts one by one, sniffing their scents.
When the client passed Kim Namhu, he felt a faint surge of excitement.
Some days, when a woman was particularly horny, her pheromone became stronger.
“I’ll take this one.”
The client’s choice was Kim Namhu.
