Chapter 44: Our 'Definition'-5
Ever since we first slept together, our Master has summoned me to her bedroom roughly once every two days.
At first, I was quite enthusiastic about the fact that I could be intimate with such a beautiful woman. However, my attitude must have flipped a switch in her, because our sessions have been getting longer and longer.
Whenever we have relations, I spend the night at the Heavenly Demon Palace. Lately, she’s even been waking me up in the early hours of the morning.
Well, to be precise, I was the one who woke up because of what she was doing.
"What are you doing?"
"Don't mind me. You must be tired, so go back to sleep. I am simply doing my work."
She was incredibly shameless, saying that while she had my "precious part" in her mouth. I suppose one has to be that thick-skinned to lead a cult.
In the end, I couldn't hold back and went for another round. By the time she was satisfied, dawn was already breaking.
If you asked me if I hated it, I’d have to say my feelings were split fifty-fifty.
It’s a man’s natural instinct to want to spend the night with a charming woman, after all.
The problem was that I had to endure the aftermath all by myself. It was exactly like drinking happily one night only to suffer through a grueling hangover the next day.
After spending the night with the Heavenly Demon and eating breakfast together, she would head off to handle the affairs of the Black Sky Cult, while I would return to the Palace of Sacrifice to catch up on my missed sleep.
This cycle repeated.
If the Chief Steward hadn't stopped by the Palace of Sacrifice to take me to lunch, I probably would have slept until evening.
"Oh dear, you look quite tired."
He spoke with a gentle smile, and I nodded while rubbing my eyes, which were as red as a rabbit's.
"That, and I'm a bit thirsty because I ran out of the water I kept by my bed."
I was still struggling to get used to speaking down to him.
"I see. I will bring more water next time. My apologies."
"There's no need to apologize. It's just because I drink a lot of water, so don't worry about it."
To be honest, I felt bad even saying this to the Chief Steward.
Currently, he was the only one looking after the Palace of Sacrifice. Normally, it should have been teeming with servants, but unfortunately, all the servants in the Black Sky Cult were female. Apparently, our Master didn't want any women around me, so she refused to assign me any.
As a result, the Chief Steward ended up doing all the chores for me, even though he was already swamped with managing everything else in the cult.
It was an awkward situation for both of us—me for having to ask, and him for lacking the physical time to do it all.
"I think I'll speak to Master about this today."
"I wonder if the Sect Leader will permit it... I am worried you might get scolded for nothing."
"Well, what's the worst that could happen? It's not like she'll do more than kill me. Haha."
Yeah, well... I figured there wasn't much else besides death.
"If things go south, 'we' can just go hide somewhere together."
When I said that with a chuckle, the Chief Steward paused.
"I see. 'We' could just go hide somewhere together."
After a momentary daze, he flashed a kind, pleasant smile.
*
"You must truly have a death wish."
I had just picked up my chopsticks, salivating at the sight of the noodle dish served for lunch, when she spoke abruptly.
This was her reaction to my request for servants.
Perhaps the Heavenly Demon’s reaction was too intense, because the Fist Demon, who was about to eat something resembling a meatball, froze with his mouth wide open.
The Spirit Demon watched him for a moment before reaching out and gently closing his mouth with her finger.
They really were a perfectly synchronized duo.
I felt the need to be a bit more assertive.
"No, think about it. How many jobs is the Chief Steward currently handling? He's in charge of everything in the Black Sky Cult. It's too much of a burden to make him handle minor chores as well."
"Chief Steward, do you find your work burdensome?"
"Don't ask the poor man; talk to me. Why are you being so stubborn when all I'm asking for is a few people?"
When I raised my voice slightly in frustration, the Heavenly Demon’s eyes widened.
Her face practically screamed, 'How dare you?'
If it had been the me from our first meeting, I would have been intimidated, but after spending several nights together, I didn't find her particularly scary anymore.
"Stubborn? You dare call This Seat stubborn?"
The Heavenly Demon snorted as if she couldn't believe her ears.
The Spirit Demon looked back and forth between Master and me before hanging her head low.
"If you insist on not giving me servants, that's fine. I'll just fetch my own water and gather my own firewood. It's not like I have anything else to do here anyway, so it works out."
"That is out of the question. The only place you are permitted to move within is this cult. And the Chief Steward is capable, so if things continue as they are..."
"But I'm uncomfortable. He has to stop by every dawn to check on my room... and the man is already drowning in work as it is."
"Hmm..."
As I continued to argue for several minutes that the Chief Steward couldn't handle it alone, the Heavenly Demon pouted grumpily and tapped her finger on the table.
"Sigh... If I followed my temper, I'd rip that mouth of yours right off."
She muttered terrifying things every now and then, but I decided to pretend I didn't hear them.
"The servants must be kept to a minimum... and since everyone is of a certain age... I'll have to find someone either very old or a mere child..."
Our Master muttered to herself, lost in her own world.
After a few minutes, she nodded as if she had made a decision and spoke.
"Fine. I do not know why you care so much for the Chief Steward whom you've barely known, but I shall take your thoughts into consideration and grant your request."
"However!"
She added a condition.
"There will only be two servants."
I thought one would be enough, but having two didn't hurt.
"I am grateful for Master’s vast benevolence."
As I respectfully clasped my hands in a formal greeting, something flew through the air and struck my forehead with a sharp thwack.
What was this... a bean?
Did she just throw a bean at me? That hurt like hell.
"Stop being so cheeky, you damn disciple."
With a huff, the Heavenly Demon used the Star Absorption Technique to suck up her noodles in one go, then stood up and vanished.
"Sweet, I won."
The words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop them.
"Young Sect Leader, if I may be so bold... you have a rather unique personality."
The Fist Demon, who had finally managed to chew and swallow his meatball, spoke to me.
