Chapter 223: Problem Child-1
A soft touch, an electronic beep ringing in my ears.
Even with my eyes closed, I could tell I was in a modern setting.
And the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes wasn't a strange ceiling, but a familiar message.
[Number of Dimension Transfers: 9]
"Ah... what kind of world is it this time?"
A slightly high-pitched voice reached my ears.
It seemed to be my own.
My head throbbed as if I had spent the previous night binge-drinking. It felt like the world was spinning. I pressed my palms against the mattress and forced my heavy body up.
The room was so dark it was barely different from having my eyes closed.
— Ding-dong, ding-dong.
The noisy electronic sound rang out again.
I managed to move my leaden limbs. Just getting my legs off the bed and onto the floor took a considerable amount of effort. The cold temperature of the floor seeped in through the soles of my feet.
Putting strength into my arms again, I stood up and took a step.
My foot caught on something. I heard the sound of something small and plastic rolling across the floor.
Before dealing with the persistent electronic ringing, I pulled back the curtains to brighten the gloomy room.
As the curtains moved, sunlight poured in. It was a stinging glare that went beyond mere warmth. Perhaps because I hadn't adjusted to the light yet, my eyes hurt quite a bit.
— Ding-dong, ding-dong.
The electronic sound continued, and I realized it was the doorbell.
When I turned to answer the call, the state of the room, now illuminated by the sunlight, gradually came into view.
The word "pigsty" was the perfect description for the state of the room.
It was a situation similar to when I had possessed the body of a middle-aged man.
Alcohol bottles were scattered everywhere, and there were cigarette ashes and burn marks on the floor where they had been stubbed out.
And then there were the small circular plastic containers and the mysterious pills that had spilled out of their open mouths.
"What is it this time...?"
Knowing at a glance that this wasn't the room of a normal person, deep irritation surged up from my Dantian.
Dealing with obsessed women is hard enough; I wish the people I possessed were at least somewhat normal.
Or perhaps it's because they're flawed that they attract obsessed women in the first place?
I found myself caught in a useless "chicken or the egg" train of thought.
— Ding-dong, ding-dong.
The doorbell rang again.
I stood there lost in thought, looking back and forth between the door and the room. I felt it would be best to tidy up this disastrous mess before greeting the visitor.
I pressed myself against the window again to look outside.
A young woman was standing perfectly composed in front of the main gate.
When she pressed something with her finger, the doorbell rang.
— Ding-dong, ding-dong.
When there was no response from my side, the woman looked as if she were letting out a heavy sigh.
Then, she looked up at the second floor where I was.
Our eyes met.
The woman's eyes narrowed, and she began rummaging through her bag.
She pulled out something silver and inserted it into the gate.
With a clack, the gate began to open with the screech of rusting iron.
"Wait, if she has a key, why the hell is she ringing the doorbell?"
The woman's gaze remained fixed on me as she opened the gate and began walking into the house.
First, I had to clean the room.
I hurried away from the window and searched for a bag to put things in.
Naturally, I couldn't find any official trash bags, so I grabbed a convenience store bag rolling around the room and shoved the trash inside.
The small bag was full in an instant. I tied it up and threw it in the trash can.
While I was filling a second bag I'd found, I heard the sound of the digital door lock opening on the first floor.
Someone had entered the house, and I could feel the footsteps gradually heading toward the second floor.
I had cleared away the major trash, but there was nothing I could do about the lingering smell in the room.
I waved my hands around, trying to fan the cigarette smell out, even though I knew it was a futile gesture.
The footsteps grew closer.
As soon as I felt a presence outside, the door opened without warning.
A woman about my height stood there, her brown hair braided and draped over her left shoulder.
Dressed in casual clothes, she gave off the impression of a college student.
"The smell! What is this smell?"
She grimaced deeply and glared at me.
She strode across the room and threw the slightly ajar window wide open.
When opening the window didn't seem to change much, she let out a resigned sigh and turned back to me.
Our eyes met.
"Hello."
Overwhelmed by a sudden wave of awkwardness, I gave her a polite bow.
"What do you think you're doing?"
It was the kind of look one might give a cockroach that had just offered a polite greeting.
Um... was that not the right move?
As I stood there blankly, not knowing what to do, the woman in front of me let out a long sigh and unfolded a folding chair sitting next to the desk.
With a metallic clack, the worn-out chair was placed on the floor, and she sat down.
"I'm sure you haven't done your homework... and of course, you haven't prepared for the lesson..."
She muttered to herself as she pulled a workbook out of her backpack.
"I'll probably just end up talking to myself for two hours like always..."
Bothered by her muttering, I pulled out the chair in front of the desk and sat down.
"...?"
She frowned and looked at me as I sat at the desk.
I didn't avoid her gaze and looked right back at her.
"What's this?"
She asked, looking as if she were seeing something that shouldn't exist.
"Um... aren't we having a lesson?"
I asked back.
Her hand, which had been pulling materials from her bag, froze.
She tilted her head in confusion and leaned her face closer to mine.
She reached out and placed her hand on my forehead.
A cool sensation chilled my brow.
"That's strange... you don't have a fever?"
She murmured, looking genuinely baffled.
