Demon King Repelled (Failure)
Demon King Repelled (Failure)
Mukmyeong was an exorcist.
He was also from modern Earth.
In 21st-century society, the only knife he'd ever wielded was a fruit knife for eating apples.
For someone as far removed from martial prowess as Mukmyeong, walking the path of yokai purification was like a quest straight out of fate.
A quest, literally. For real.
A quest window floated right in front of Mukmyeong's eyes.
Exorcising the Demon King was his destiny.
Catching and killing minor yokai meant nothing if the boss was still alive.
A being that oozed Yin Energy everywhere it went. An evil soul that summoned ghosts just by breathing.
That was the Demon King.
Before the fight, Mukmyeong first lamented his own plight.
How the hell did it come to this? He'd just downloaded an 18+ game, that's all.
Demon Exorcism Journey.
It was the name of the open-world RPG his friend had recommended.
You freely grew your character, and events triggered when you encountered yokai.
You took on purification requests to help commoners, sent wronged ghosts to the afterlife, and sometimes crushed yokai with overwhelming force.
The game was fun. Except for one glaring flaw.
Why the fuck... does an ero-game have no sex scenes?
It was only after possessing a character in Demon Exorcism Journey that Mukmyeong realized the truth.
His grown character was too damn strong.
The highlight of any ero-game—those sex scenes—only popped up as rape events when you lost to a yokai.
Thanks to the strategy guide, Mukmyeong had built up perfectly. He'd memorized every tip from the veteran hardcore players' newbie guides.
He'd never lost. Not even once.
In the end, he never got those sex scenes and ended up sucked into the ero-game world.
In this world, Mukmyeong was a renowned exorcist.
On top of that, he was a male character. For male chars, losing to yokai usually meant instant death.
It wasn't a build for 18+ fun from the start.
He'd followed <While You're At It, Go for the King - How a Total Newbie Grabs the Final Boss>.
Mukmyeong felt wronged. Exorcists had this sacred image. He couldn't just go around banging village girls.
He still clung to his modern guy's flimsy morals. Rape was a serious crime, after all.
Hell, no one even came onto him. His purification style was too brutal.
He decided to just take down the final boss and see what happened next.
What would happen if he cleared the game? Would he go back to reality?
The ending was right around the corner. Mukmyeong glared at the Demon King.
A fierce-looking man sat atop a boulder. He opened his mouth with a sinister grin.
"Ho ho, so you're the exorcist they've been talking about, the one slaughtering yokai left and right lately."
Mukmyeong had no intention of chatting long with the bastard.
Between dudes, bodies did the talking.
He immediately spat out a hand axe from his mouth.
The blade was forged from tempered steel, and the handle had a bell attached.
As he gripped his weapon, ttallang-—a clear, ringing tone spread out.
Before the bell's echo faded, Mukmyeong and the Demon King clashed fiercely.
One was the king of humans. The other, king of yokai.
Their full-power brawl turned the wind to dust, leaving the mountain area a total wasteland.
The fight didn't last long. Uprooted trees pointed their roots at the sky. In the twisted landscape, the Demon King, covered in dirt, shouted.
"You monster... This is ridiculous! Why won't you just die?"
It was thanks to Mukmyeong's trait 'Cheonae Yuseon.'
He was immune to sulbeop, but couldn't use it himself either. At first, he thought it was a huge penalty, but the vet bros had their reasons.
Newbies sucked at controls and couldn't dodge yokai attacks. Stronger yokai had bizarre spells that killed on a graze.
Pushing with raw power suited Mukmyeong fine. Cheonae Yuseon slashed the play difficulty by tenfold.
Every binding spell from the Demon King was a one-shot kill. Getting sulbeop immunity per the guide was the right call.
"I don't know what trick you're pulling, but you won't survive this."
The Demon King smirked wickedly and formed hand seals.
As a very old yokai, he had plenty of schemes up his sleeve. Mukmyeong braced for the next move, a bad feeling brewing.
"Reversal Binding Spell, Jaungyeokhaeng."
In that instant, strength drained from his entire body.
His chest felt heavy, like his muscles were melting away.
Amid the bizarre bodily changes, Mukmyeong pressed the attack.
Demonic Aura was bypassing Cheonae Yuseon and infiltrating him. If he just took it, who knew what would happen.
Don't panic over a spell. The best purification was slicing the caster to bits. He'd learned that from chopping up tons of yokai.
Mukmyeong charged and buried his axe blade in the Demon King's shoulder.
The Demon King was a spell master, but total trash at close combat.
"Huh, how are you still moving?"
He said, eyes wide in shock.
strategy guide for the win again.
Cheonae Yuseon + 50,000 HP was god-tier.
In growth RPGs, bruiser builds were the way to go. In gamer terms, a tanky DPS—perfect offense and defense—let you steamroll before your health bar emptied.
Most yokai fought with sulbeop, so immunity + melee meant no one could match his vitality. Once he closed in, he pounded them like rats.
Thwack thwack thwack.
While the Demon King's health whittled down, he hammered away with the axe. The jingling bell drowned out his screams.
"Argh, no...! I can't get purified like thiiis...!"
The Demon King formed seals again, firing off Jaungyeokhaeng.
Ting-
Mukmyeong reflexively blocked with the axe blade, and the spell ricocheted perfectly back at the Demon King.
"Gyaaaah-!"
The Demon King let out an agonized scream.
Mukmyeong's health was draining fast too. Pain started creeping in.
Both collapsed to the ground, writhing and calling off the fight.
It hurt. Demonic Aura was warping their bodies.
The Demon King's voice had turned shrill before he knew it, tears streaming as he chanted.
"Ugh...! I curse you, exorcist! I poured every ounce of Demonic Aura into this spell... You won't get out unscathed either!"
With a terrifying declaration, he clapped his hands to open a Ghost Gate. For yokai, Ghost Gate meant 'door to anywhere.' In other words, he was running.
"Yo, damage, deaaal!"
Mukmyeong hurled his axe with his last strength.
The spinning blade sliced deep into the Demon King's waist.
The Demon King's will was ironclad. Despite the grievous wound, he dragged himself into the Ghost Gate.
The gate vanished, leaving Mukmyeong alone. He blacked out for a bit.
When he opened his eyes again, his body had gone all soft.
Especially around the chest.
