Chapter 21
Chapter 21
The PD Becomes Obsessed With My Storyboards
“My manager oppa drew them for me, PD.”
“Your manager?”
“Yes, over there.”
PD Son followed Hwang Hyejin’s gesture with his eyes.
A large-built manager holding a camera worth well over a hundred million won once the lenses and extra equipment were included.
‘He looks like he could survive endless overnight shoots.’
The manager who had strangely caught his attention ever since the first script reading day.
With that unusual physique and camera setup, PD Son had assumed he was an experienced production staff member who’d recently transferred in.
But he was Hwang Hyejin’s dedicated manager?
‘Exactly how much is PineTree expecting from Hyejin to assign her a personal camera specialist like that?’
This was excessive for a rookie actress.
Not a girl group idol.
Making footage could always be shared through the production team anyway.
Or the manager could simply film casual vlog-style content using an ordinary camera or even a phone.
PD Son had never before seen a manager carrying around a professional cinema-production camera like that.
“Manager Cha Doyoung drew these?”
“Yes.”
“Did that guy major in art or something?”
“No. He said drawing was just a hobby.”
PD Son flipped through the sketchbook again from the beginning.
The more he looked, the more amazed he became.
The drawing style itself appeared simple,
yet it demonstrated an exact understanding of screen composition.
‘He has visual instinct. This guy has the qualities of a cinematographer.’
“Hyejin, I enjoyed looking through these.”
“Yes.”
PD Son handed the sketchbook back, then quietly approached behind Cha Doyoung.
‘So he’s sketching again. What’s he drawing now?’
Suppressing his presence, PD Son carefully peeked over Doyoung’s shoulder.
His pupils shook violently.
The moment he saw it, he understood.
Winter Castle.
Cha Doyoung was casually sketching scenes directly from the script.
Even though he used nothing more than a cheap Monami ballpoint pen, the pen strokes looked alive.
Most shocking of all, his hand moved so fast it practically disappeared.
One page completed instantly.
Flip.
Another page instantly completed.
‘A genius?’
The drawing skill itself wasn’t even the issue anymore.
Even the absurd speed became secondary.
The scenery contained within the script seemed to emerge directly from the pen onto the white paper.
The vague images PD Son had only loosely imagined in his own mind—
through Cha Doyoung’s sketches, they transformed into realistic direction.
They gained life.
“Your name was Cha Doyoung, right? Hyejin’s manager?”
“Ah, PD.”
Cha Doyoung hurriedly closed the sketchbook and stood up.
PD Son’s eyes practically dripped greed while staring at the sketchbook.
“At PineTree, do managers coach acting too? Even drawing storyboards?”
“I’m not exactly a manager in the strict sense.”
“You’re not?”
“Yes. I’m more like… a dedicated cameraman? I film Hyejin acting, working, and daily life whenever possible.”
“Then what are these storyboard sketches?”
“Hyejin said they help her build emotional imagery for acting, so I’ve been drawing them for her.”
“I heard you never studied art.”
“I never formally learned drawing. I just self-studied it as a hobby.”
“Self-taught? A hobby?”
“Yes.”
PD Son’s eyes shook again.
“You seriously never learned professionally anywhere? Not even at an academy?”
“No. Ah, though I did watch some WeTube videos.”
“Could I take a look at what you just drew?”
Cha Doyoung obediently handed over the sketchbook.
PD Son slowly appreciated the pages like an explorer examining hidden treasure.
After reaching the end—
“These compositions are beautiful enough to shoot exactly as they are.”
“Ah, thank you.”
“I’m not exaggerating. Honestly, I’m saying this because I genuinely want them. Would it be alright if we actually directed scenes based on these sketches?”
I know that look.
That’s the look people give when they think they’re staring at an unbelievable genius.
My real drawing skill level is honestly worse than crooked stick figures.
But the future app borrowing my hands with a single “click” produced storyboard sketches rivaling legendary masters.
“If my lacking sketches inspired you somehow, then it would be my honor. Please feel free to use them.”
I quickly held out the sketchbook toward PD Son.
After accepting it, PD Son looked slightly awkward and glanced toward Hwang Hyejin.
Come to think of it, Hwang Hyejin had completely stopped reading her script and was staring this way.
“Ah, thank you. I’ll make copies and return it immediately. There’s no copier here right now, so I’ll bring it back on set next time.”
“No, it’s fine. You can just keep it.”
“Shouldn’t Hyejin keep it?”
“I can always draw new ones for Hyejin later. I can redraw them exactly the same.”
“…Exactly? Without tracing them?”
“Yes.”
“…Could you maybe show me right now?”
PD Son’s expression turned serious.
I opened a fresh sketchbook.
‘Copy and paste the drawing from page one of the sketchbook I just gave PD Son.’
【Drawing image. Temporarily controlling the user’s body.】
Holding the ballpoint pen, my hand began moving rapidly.
An exact replica of the original drawing appeared on the fresh page.
At this point, it was basically a human photocopier.
“…!”
PD Son’s eyes trembled violently.
He laid the two sketchbooks side by side and compared them repeatedly before staring at me in disbelief.
“No, how can you redraw something this perfectly identical? You weren’t even looking at the original while drawing.”
“Well, because I’m the one who drew it?”
“No human can do that. Unless you’re literally a copy machine, it’s impossible.”
Well, technically, it really was copied.
PD Son continued comparing the two drawings excitedly.
Then suddenly, as if realizing something, he asked,
“Now that I think about it, you’ve only been drawing scenes featuring Hyejin?”
“These are meant to help our Hyejin with acting practice.”
“One moment.”
PD Son pulled out the script and flipped through the pages before pointing somewhere.
“Could you maybe draw this part right now? Hyejin doesn’t appear here, but I’m personally requesting it.”
I’d heard that on drama sets, the PD is the king and the writer is the queen.
Our Hwang Hyejin was merely a low-ranking subject trying to earn favor from that king.
And I was Hwang Hyejin’s dedicated support.
“Just a moment.”
I gladly drew it right there.
A scenery visualization created by the future app from the script.
‘Pay close attention to the mise-en-scène and make it as detailed as possible.’
【Already doing so. It is the PD’s request, after all.】
This thing really does have good sense sometimes.
Soon, the storyboard scene from the script was complete.
Even I had to admit it looked absurdly impressive for something supposedly drawn instantly with a ballpoint pen.
“You really drew this beautifully. And incredibly fast too. You fully understood the drama’s overall concept and flow, then built the frame using the visually strongest composition possible.”
PD Son kept admiring it repeatedly before finally saying,
“I only asked for tomorrow’s scene as a test, but honestly… I think we’ll need to throw away our existing storyboards and rebuild everything using this instead. After seeing this, I genuinely can’t use the current storyboard anymore.”
“Ah… but wouldn’t that take a lot of time?”
“Of course it would. We’d be discarding dozens of pages, not just one or two. Which is why….”
The way PD Son looked at me suddenly became unusual.
“Could you do it instead, Doyoung?”
“…Me?”
“I’d like you to continue handling storyboard work until this drama ends.”
“I’ve never done drama storyboard work before.”
“That’s exactly why it’s even more incredible. This is truly outstanding talent. It’ll massively improve our drama’s quality.”
Suddenly, I remembered the “predicted final result” the future app showed me before.
The ultimate broadcast version calculated from the overall drama production environment.
If the future app’s generated version was a perfect score of 100—
PD Son’s final version didn’t even reach 10.
‘Not because PD Son lacks skill. Actually, he’s an extremely talented professional in this industry.’
That’s how terrifying a thousand-year technological gap truly was.
A drama created through months of desperate labor by over a hundred people spending more than ten billion won—
still looked vastly inferior to the drama the future app generated instantly in one second just by reading the script.
The only area where the real production surpassed the app-generated version was the story itself.
Because the future app didn’t assist with story creation.
“PD, but Hyejin only appears until Episode 2…”
“She’ll continue appearing through flashbacks, so it’s fine. We’ll add plenty more flashback scenes.”
“But that would require script revisions. Is that alright?”
As far as I knew, writer Lee Sihyang absolutely despised anyone touching her scripts.
Yet PD Son looked completely confident.
“Wait here.”
“Huh?”
PD Son grabbed the sketchbook and disappeared somewhere.
A little later, he returned.
Not alone—
but with writer Lee Sihyang beside him.
The moment Lee Sihyang saw me, she lightly clapped her hands.
“This is him?”
“Yes, writer. His creative ability to visualize scripts is already incredible, but his storyboard execution skill is honestly terrifying.”
“Could you show me once?”
So I demonstrated it again in front of both the PD and the writer.
Lee Sihyang personally selected several scenes from the script and asked me to visualize them.
‘It’s the writer’s direct request. Put serious effort into this.’
【Of course.】
Beautiful and striking imagery.
Imagery capable of pulling out the writer’s imagination hidden within the script.
Several storyboard pages were completed instantly.
Lee Sihyang scanned the sketchbook with eyes almost ready to lick it.
“What do you think, writer?”
“Exactly what PD Son said. It genuinely feels like you pulled the images straight from inside my head—no, not just that. You perfectly captured the ideal vision I vaguely pursue. So this is what real talent looks like.”
“If we want Doyoung helping us long-term, then actress Hwang Hyejin needs to remain active on set.”
“That’s easy enough.”
Lee Sihyang snapped her fingers sharply.
“I’ll increase Hwang Hyejin’s dialogue and screen time.”
I told the app to put extra effort in just in case—
but this seriously worked?
