B Team (1)
Every day was the same routine.
In the Second Criminal Investigation Division, Han Su-ji never received proper treatment as a detective. Today, like always, she was organizing copied documents and watering the plants that had already been drenched the day before, occasionally glancing at her seniors' desks.
She pretended to clean while sneaking peeks at the files.
“Hey. What are you doing?”
“Ah…… Senior, you spilled coffee on the floor, so I was just wiping it up.”
Han Su-ji smiled as she vigorously mopped the innocent floor with the mop.
“Aigoo, with a face like that she should just become an influencer. What’s she doing hanging around with sweaty guys like us?”
“She says she really wants to be a real cop. I wonder if those skinny wrists of hers could even slap on a pair of handcuffs.”
“Enough with the commentary on Su-ji. You guys just do your own work.”
“I still have a long way to go to keep up with you seniors. I’m working hard on my training! Please keep watching over me!”
Her overly eager attitude toward the grumbling seniors was almost pitiful.
Despite enduring her colleagues’ constant sarcasm, she persisted because of her sense of duty.
There were too many bad people in the world, and even more who had never been caught.
Especially the one who had killed her father ten years ago and disappeared.
She had to catch him with her own hands.
“We’re heading out to the scene, so organize the files while we’re gone.”
“Yes! Leave it to me. Have a safe trip!”
“Don’t do anything unnecessary.”
“Hehe. Yes, sir.”
Han Su-ji kept her back bent at a perfect ninety degrees until her fellow detectives had all left.
Once they were gone, she cautiously lifted her head. They were all gone.
Organizing files? She was more than happy to.
Han Su-ji moved with exceptional agility.
A few days ago, while cleaning the storage room, she had found a strange diary.
The diary contained incredibly detailed records of future incidents that had not yet occurred.
The very first case listed was dated tomorrow: 20XX.XX.XX.
“Let’s see, let’s see. I’m sure I’ve seen something similar before.”
The case involved a grotesque murder in which a woman in her twenties was found with all the blood drained from her body.
Reading the diary, it was so brutal that it was hard to believe it was anything but the work of a madman playing a prank.
Yet the diary recorded every photograph and detail with precision.
The suspect was described as a male between his twenties and forties.
Based on statements from people around the victim, there was no apparent grudge, so the writer could only speculate that it was the horrific act of someone with antisocial personality disorder. The actual identity of the perpetrator was not recorded.
The last CCTV footage of the victim on her way home was from around 7 p.m. tomorrow.
If the incident was happening tomorrow, it could be stopped.
As a detective, there was nothing more powerless than knowing someone was going to die and being unable to prevent it.
She would find the victim first and save her, no matter what.
There was still time until then.
What Han Su-ji was looking for now was……
“Found it!”
She pulled out a file from the messy stack of documents.
It was a case from six months ago in which a woman’s severed hand had been discovered.
Because all the fingerprints had been removed, the victim’s identity remained unknown.
One notable detail was that the pinky fingernail on the left hand was missing, and there was a small mole in its place.
Han Su-ji noticed the same distinctive mark on the left fingertip of the victim recorded in the case file.
“This…… Could this be the work of the same killer?”
Thus, Han Su-ji was slowly closing in on the serial killer Ju Chang-mok……
“Okay! Cut!”
Eun Chae-won, who had been acting as the passionate detective Han Su-ji, let out a sigh of relief at Director Seong’s “Okay” sign.
This scene had many internal monologues and close-up shots that required her to infer the killer’s identity through expressions alone, so she had been extremely tense.
“Chae-won. Your acting was great.”
“Thank you.”
“Today’s shoot is done. The SBC publicity team wants you to film a promotional video. Is that okay right now?”
“Yes, of course.”
“Then I’ll leave it to you.”
“Where are you going, Director?”
“Ah. I’m going to check on B Team’s outdoor shoot.”
“Scene 50 from Episode 1?”
“Oh. You’ve memorized the script already? That’s right. It’s the scene where Ju Chang-mok kills the victim.”
Eun Chae-won’s interest was piqued at the mention of Ju Chang-mok.
“That scene looked really compelling. I was curious how it would turn out.”
“Me too. That’s why I’m heading over to B Team’s set.”
Director Seong Tae-man spoke without hiding his excitement.
Drama productions were usually divided into A Team and B Team.
Having a single director and crew film an entire drama was an enormous undertaking.
Moreover, letting the B Team assist the main A Team helped nurture younger staff members.
Still, the main team was A Team. B Team was essentially support.
That was why the main scenes featuring the male and female leads were primarily handled by the A Team director.
B Team was assigned supporting roles, background scenes, and location shots.
