The massive, overly thick glass door loomed before me. The scanners emitted beams of light that swept across my body. Once the light finished its inspection and faded, a bright, synthetic voice rang out and the door slid open with a smooth hiss.
I stepped through, my fingers idly toying with the vial in my palm as I walked down the excessively luxurious corridor. Really, this job is more trouble than it's worth. I should have known the moment they offered compensation that was too good to be true.
After what felt like an endless hallway, I finally reached the office. There stood a woman and the director of this lab—my employer, the old man.
“The thing you gave me is fully analyzed. No toxins, no traces of dangerous programs, and zero concerning risk factors. You can implant it with complete confidence.”
I placed the analyzed chip on the old man’s desk, walking past the woman who stood there like a lifeless mannequin. The old man, who had been staring out the window, turned to me with a smile.
“Good work.”
“...But seriously, are you sure a biologist really made this? This kind of high-performance tech is rare even in my line of work.”
“You’re too curious for your own good. I gave you a job, and I paid you for it. Isn’t that enough?”
Of course he wouldn’t tell me. I turned around, leaning back against the desk, and looked at the woman standing there like a frozen mannequin, staring right at me.
“So this woman is the biological weapon you’ve been bragging about? What are you planning to do with her? Sell her to another country?”
“You certainly have a lot of questions. For you, I suppose there’s no reason I couldn’t tell you...”
The old man stood up, approached me, and reached out to touch my mask as if to remove it. In response, I pulled the stun gun from my waistband and pressed it against his stomach. He immediately withdrew his hand, raised both arms, and stepped back.
“Sorry, but I don’t do that kind of work. If you’re that pent up, you’ve got the woman right behind you.”
“...Such a cute body, yet that mouth of yours is anything but.”
“Thanks for the compliment. Still, I have zero interest in sleeping with a man old enough to be my grandfather.”
I straightened the mask he had disturbed, holstered the stun gun, and pushed myself off the desk.
“Like you said, I received my payment and did the work I was paid for. That’s the end of it. Don’t push it any further. It’s disgusting.”
“Your manners are rather rude.”
“Sorry. Once I start accepting that kind of thing, it never ends. But if you need me again, give me a call. I’ll give you a small discount next time.”
I walked past the old man and stepped back into the long corridor. Ha. The pay is great when dealing with these high-society types, but the perverts that come with it are the worst.
“Well then, this request is complete...”
I pulled out my phone to check my schedule. It had seemed like an easy gig—high pay for simply checking and removing any dangerous elements from a chip. I never expected to get tangled up with the group that creates biological weapons. Good thing I’d hidden my real identity beforehand.
Still, the fact that a biologist—not someone from my own industry—created something like that... I was curious what kind of person they were.
...Where was the records archive again?
I really need to break this habit of not being able to leave things alone when I get curious.
“...”
“...”
“...What are you two doing?”
After school, we were walking through a bustling downtown street. Chae-yun was clinging to my right arm, and Seo-hee was latched onto my left. Eyes from every direction bored into us. If they were just looks of envy, that would have been fine. But the stares carried a strange sense of disgust that made me feel like some kind of criminal.
The way both of them had their arms linked with mine didn’t help. We looked like police officers escorting a convict.
“Um, sorry, but... could you let go for a second...”
“No.”
“I don’t want to either.”
“...I can understand Chae-yun acting like this, but this isn’t like you at all, Seo-hee.”
“...Do you have a problem with it?”
The more I asked them to let go, the tighter they clung. It wasn’t a bad feeling. Honestly, it felt pretty good... but the increasingly sharp glares made me lower my head and keep walking.
Ever since yesterday, the two of them had been strangely attached to me. After spending the entire night with Seo-rin and returning home, they started acting clingy, almost demanding my attention. And that behavior had continued all the way until now.
Chae-yun had always been a bit like this, but Seo-hee had never acted this way before. Even when I pointed out her sudden personality shift, she would just blush shyly and look up at me. Something was definitely off.
“...This isn’t working.”
We had already been walking like this for an hour. They weren’t saying anything meaningful—just meaningless small talk—and it was driving me insane. I grabbed both their hands and pulled them away from the crowded streets.
I found a quiet, relatively empty café and sat them down before asking directly.
“What’s going on with both of you? It’s been like this since yesterday.”
“...What do you mean since yesterday... Ha, haha...”
“...”
“...I’m about to lose my mind from how frustrated I am, so can you just tell me?”
I cut straight to the point after an hour of suffocating silence, but Seo-hee and Chae-yun simply gave awkward smiles or kept their heads down, fidgeting with their coffee cups in embarrassment. Only after I ran a hand through my hair in frustration did Seo-hee finally speak.
“...Honestly, we don’t know why we’re acting like this either.”
“...Yeah.”
“What?”
“We were only apart from you for a little while yesterday... but I suddenly felt incredibly anxious...”
Anxious? I had no idea what they could possibly be anxious about, but seeing the genuinely uneasy expressions on their faces—expressions I had never seen before since meeting them—I couldn’t bring myself to press them any further.
Chae-yun kept her head lowered, so Seo-hee continued in her place.
“...I thought maybe it was just us, so I contacted the others, but...”
“Hee-ju is my split entity, so I’m not sure, but she didn’t seem to be affected...”
“Nabi didn’t seem like it either. I’m not even sure if she counts as one of us.”
“What about Su-a?”
Both of them shook their heads.
“So you don’t know the cause either?”
“This is the first time we’ve ever been like this, so we don’t know what to do.”
“...Mmph♡”
Chae-yun, who had been keeping her head down strangely the entire time while gripping her coffee cup tightly, suddenly twitched and let out a strange moan. Seo-hee, sitting beside her, looked startled and began checking on her.
“What’s wrong? Why are you suddenly like this? Are you okay?”
“...I can’t... I can’t hold it anymore...♡ Haaup...!!♡”
“Mmph?!”
“Hey?!”
Chae-yun shoved away Seo-hee’s supporting hands, lunged at me, and pressed her lips against mine. The moment I opened my mouth in surprise, her long tongue slipped inside along with hot breath, wrapping around my tongue and licking greedily as if savoring my saliva.
Both Seo-hee and I were shocked by her sudden behavior and tried to pull her off, but—
“...What the—?!”
“Mmph?! Mmm!!”
“Mmmchuah...♡ Oppa...♡”
Even with both of us pushing, she didn’t budge an inch. Instead, she pressed even closer. Seo-hee looked around in alarm at Chae-yun’s unexpected strength. It was a quiet café with few people, but it wasn’t completely empty. While Seo-hee worried about the other customers’ stares, Chae-yun’s eyes remained fixed on me, her tongue ravaging my mouth.
Beneath her skirt, her soaked panties dripped sticky fluid in long strands that formed little puddles on the floor.
Why is she acting like—
“?!”
That voice. It grew faint, as if being buried beneath the sands of distant memory, echoing away like a fading whisper. And Chae-yun’s eyes were glowing blue.
A blue light formed between me and her. The sensation that her existence and mine were bound together as one. If that was the case...
The edges of my vision turned blue. I met her gaze in that state.
Sleep.
“...Mmph?!♡ Ah...”
Chae-yun pulled her lips away and collapsed limply. Seo-hee, who had no idea what was happening, jumped in shock.
“What did you do?!”
“I-I don’t know either.”
An unfamiliar sensation pulsed through my body. I had only felt a strange instinct to seize the blue light connecting me and Chae-yun and pull her away, but the moment I did, she slumped into the chair as if falling asleep. She breathed softly, fast asleep. I felt as if I were connected to her somehow.
It was similar to how I felt connected to Su-a after she became the host of the blue petals.
“...Are you okay? What about you?”
“Me? I-I’m fine, but...”
Seo-hee turned her flushed face away, avoiding my eyes. She’s lying.
“F-for now, carry Chae-yun. Let’s go ho— Mmph?!♡”
I grabbed her chin and kissed her the same way Chae-yun had kissed me, my tongue invading her mouth. At first, she tried to push me away, but her hands soon tangled around my arms. Her eyes lost their reason. Soon, her eyes began glowing blue just like Chae-yun’s.
I felt that strange sensation again, but this time, I didn’t hear that nostalgic voice. I reached out with an invisible hand and gently caressed the blue light connecting us.
With that same feeling, I commanded:
Follow me.
“...Haa...♡...”
This time, she didn’t collapse. Seo-hee stood blankly before me, her eyes glowing blue as she looked at me. With a soft, gentle tone completely unlike her usual way of speaking, she smiled like a girl in love and whispered:
“...Yes♡ My husband...♡”
