Chapter 240: The Great Raid (2)
Chapter 240: The Great Raid (2)
Realizing they were in a highly disadvantageous position, Han Shin decided he needed to dive into the fray and throw the demons into chaos himself.
However, before Han Shin could move, Sitri stepped forward.
Having reached the same conclusion, she acted first, knowing her current position allowed for much more freedom of movement than Han Shin, who was currently occupied blocking the front with his shield.
Watching Sitri streak past him, Han Shin realized she had read his mind and taken the initiative.
‘Sitri moved first.’
It didn't matter who stepped up, as long as someone did. Now that she had charged out, Han Shin focused on intercepting the demonic attacks that managed to bypass Laysia’s holy magic.
Sitri reached the demons in a single leap.
Narrowly weaving through the barrage of projectiles, she descended upon Baphomet’s demons and swung her sword.
“Kuaak!!”
“Keugh!”
“Aaaagh!”
The silver sword Sitri wielded was a whip sword. As she swung it, the blade extended and transformed into a whip, sweeping through Baphomet’s demons.
Screams of agony erupted along with sprays of black blood. The demons, who had been launching a one-sided assault, never expected to be hit by such a swift counterattack.
They hadn't anticipated Sitri approaching at a speed they couldn't even track.
Furthermore, they were currently holding the high ground, raining down long-range attacks with impunity. This was a deliberate tactic; the demons had intended to make the entrance of the portal easy to defend the moment they stepped through.
They had designed the environment to be easy to protect because it took a certain amount of time for demons to fully exit this dungeon.
While this dungeon, used to bypass the dimensional barrier, could accommodate a large number of demons, its seal was made exceptionally strong to compensate. Consequently, it took a full week to completely emerge from within.
For the demons, this was a remarkable advancement. The fact that a large number of them could now be sent to Earth meant there was no shortage of volunteers, all vying to be the first to fight.
Having been trapped in Nippur for over thirty years, the demons were starved for blood. Driven by a primal desire to destroy other living beings, they were incredibly aggressive.
Moreover, they had spent those thirty years gauging the level of Earth’s Awakeners to some extent.
In the demons' eyes, the humans were pathetic.
While a few strong individuals existed, the average level didn't come close to that of a demon. They were confident that if they could just secure the conditions for a head-on confrontation on Earth, victory would be theirs.
The demons serving Baphomet were particularly bellicose, and many shared this sentiment.
The same was true for the demons Han Shin’s party had just encountered…
But they were unlucky.
As Sitri’s whip sword swept through Baphomet’s demons, their formation shattered instantly, and all attention shifted toward her.
“Deal with that bitch first!”
“Impudent wench!”
“Kuaaaakh!!”
The massive, beast-headed demons roared in fury, spitting as they shouted.
Sitri naturally landed right in the middle of them as she continued her assault.
‘Followers of Baphomet, huh? Perfect.’
Recognizing their appearance immediately, Sitri felt no qualms about facing them.
Back when she was a Demon Duke under Asmodeus, she hadn't been on particularly good terms with demons serving other Evil Gods, and that was especially true for Baphomet’s lot.
They were a violent breed, famous even among demons for being out of control.
Individually, Baphomet’s demons possessed the greatest martial prowess, and their faction was immensely powerful. Because of their sheer numbers and influence, they looked down on other demons.
In particular, weaker types like Succubi were nothing more than toys to them.
Having had frequent clashes with them in the past, Sitri harbored a deep dislike for Baphomet’s demons.
Thus, now that she had become Han Shin’s woman and a follower of Tiamat, she felt absolutely no hesitation in slaughtering them.
In truth, Sitri wouldn't have hesitated to kill her former subordinates or even her own kin, the Succubi, at this point.
For Sitri, Han Shin was the absolute priority. She had vowed to eliminate anyone and anything that stood as an enemy to him.
The silver whip sword easily severed the limbs and heads of the beast-headed demons.
The demons facing Sitri had no way to deal with a weapon that was simultaneously sharp, flexible, and capable of attacking over such a wide area.
Those who tried to block with magic were crushed instantly by the whip sword imbued with Tiamat’s divine power…
And those who tried to raise their shields had their hands severed along with the metal.
Baphomet’s demons were well aware that the Moon Shadow Party had been killing the demons operating on Earth, as well as the Demonic Humans and demons turned into Ego Artifacts.
However, it was only after facing them directly that they realized the party was far stronger than they had imagined.
The demons currently fighting Sitri realized they had fallen into the same pathetic state as the ones they had once mocked and ridiculed.
Shame struck them first, but it was quickly drowned out by a surging rage.
Infuriated, the demons lunged at Sitri.
She was the source of this humiliation. They wanted nothing more than to kill her.
“A mere human dares—!”
“Kuaaaaakh!”
“Aagh!”
Their roars were cut short as they were sliced and pierced by Sitri’s whip sword. They were slaughtered like practice scarecrows, unable to land a single blow.
Soon, the demons began to feel a sense of familiarity from the silver female knight wielding the whip sword.
The whip sword was a very peculiar weapon.
While there were others who used them, they were far fewer in number compared to those using conventional weapons. Finding someone who mastered the whip sword to this degree was exceptionally rare.
However, Baphomet’s demons knew of one person who was a master of the blade.
Sitri, the Demon Duke of Asmodeus, who was currently missing and presumed dead.
Naturally, the demons thought of her.
But even if she resembled Sitri, they couldn't be certain. Sitri was a demon, yet the female knight attacking them was clearly wielding powerful divine power.
As the silver whip sword pulsed with the silver aura of divine power, the energy spread through the air like a thick mist.
Even if they could somehow overlook Sitri using a power other than dark mana, the being currently massacring them was undeniably a follower of a Benevolent God, utilizing holy power.
It was a power that provoked irritation and murderous intent just by looking at it.
It was impossible to imagine that this female knight in silver armor, wielding a power diametrically opposed to their own, could be the Demon Duke of Asmodeus.
In the midst of their distraction by Sitri, the demons were left completely vulnerable to Han Shin and Grace’s attacks.
Slash!
“Aaaagh!!”
“Kuaakh!”
Thud!
“Guegh!”
Seizing the moment the enemy's pressure eased, Han Shin and Grace charged simultaneously.
Baphomet’s demons couldn't even handle Sitri alone; with Han Shin and Grace joining the fray, they collapsed even faster.
It didn't take long for every last demon to be wiped out.
On the other side, Laysia and Kang Yujin moved together, crushing demon heads with psychokinesis and shattering them with punches and kicks.
Baphomet’s demons were slaughtered one-sidedly until not a single one was left breathing.
Having finished the battle quickly, Han Shin’s party confirmed that the structure of this dungeon the demons had arrived in was designed to be strictly defensive.
They conducted a brief search to see if there was anything else they needed to worry about.
During the search, they discovered the core that maintained the dungeon.
It was an orb made of black obsidian, floating within a hole in the wall.
“If we break this, will the whole place collapse?”
At Han Shin’s question, Sitri answered.
“Yes, Han Shin-nim. This is the dungeon core. If you destroy it, the dungeon won't be able to maintain its structure and will slowly crumble.”
“Hmm… then will it be easy to break?”
Sitri caught onto Han Shin’s intent.
“It might be easy for us, but it would be difficult for ordinary Awakeners on Earth. There will be protective spells cast on it, and one would need a significant level of power to pierce through them.”
“I see… I feel like we should find a way to use this…”
Han Shin felt a pang of disappointment at Sitri’s answer.
It was only natural; dungeons filled with demons like this were currently appearing all over the world.
No matter how strong Han Shin’s party was or how easily they could clear them, it would take more than a week to physically clear every single dungeon that had appeared on Earth.
