Prologue
In life, there are things you don't do not because you won't, but because you can't. For Isaac, that thing was magic.
"Next. Cadet Isaac."
At the entrance to Arcadium Academy's entrance ceremony hall, I slowly stepped forward at the sound of my name.
"...Isaac?"
That was all. Commoners didn't have surnames, after all.
"A commoner can enter the academy?"
"Tsk... Muddying the waters..."
At the instructor's questioning tone, mocking laughter burst out from the crowd around me.
In an academy crawling with nobles, a name without a surname was bound to draw attention.
"Yes. I'm Isaac."
"Confirmed. Take your seat according to your number."
"Yes."
The nobles nearby whispered among themselves, but I didn't particularly care.
Anger? There was none of that either.
It was just... Isaac was.
