Epic+ Jackpot
You have appraised an Epic grade item for the first time.
You have achieved a hidden condition. Unlock information will now be updated.
Epic grade treasure chest opened (Achieved)
Successful appraisal of an unappraised Epic grade item (Achieved)
“Huh?”
This was another unexpected notification, but nothing to get too worked up about.
He'd experienced something similar when he'd succeeded in +14 enhancement with the Repeat skill.
Carpe opened his skill window to check the updated info on Unlock.
Unlock can now be activated on Epic grade objects.
MP cost for Unlock on Epic grade objects: 2,000
That was it—just one new line added to the existing description of Unlock.
“Not much of a change.”
-Yeah. The 2,000 MP cost is steep, but it's no big deal for you now.
Carpe's total MP was over 4,000 at this point. Even for Epic grade, he could appraise twice.
-As long as it's over 2,000, who cares.
“Right? Just chug a potion whenever I'm short.”
Carpe opened his inventory to check his remaining mana potions.
“Nice. Plenty left. I wondered why you insisted on stocking up on those high-capacity MP potions, but glad I did.”
-Potions? Always stock as many as you can. Max out whenever possible.
Hundreds of MP potions filled his inventory, most of them the high-capacity ones that restored exactly 2,000 MP.
“The issue's time, though.”
But he couldn't chug them nonstop.
Potions had cooldowns too.
High-capacity MP potions had a precise 1-minute reuse timer. No other MP recovery potions during that time, naturally.
“Infinite potion drinking means 60 Unlocks per hour. Three hours total? 180 times.”
-Nah. Natural MP regen too, so mix it right and you could hit 200.
“Race against the clock, then. No time to chat.”
Carpe pulled a potion from his inventory, downed it, and moved to the next item appraisal.
“Unlock!”
Epic grade item 'Frostbite Chill' successfully appraised.
“Argh! Another Epic!”
Carpe yelled in frustration and grabbed another potion from his inventory.
About an hour since entering the Holy Treasury. He'd appraised 70 items so far.
“...No way all the items here cap at Epic grade, right?”
From his hour of experience, even Epic grade items were rare.
Mostly Legendary or Legendary+, with Epic showing up just five times—including the Frostbite Chill.
“Got my hopes up when the first one was Epic...”
-First pulls are always trash. Quit whining and down another potion.
“Still on cooldown. Sigh. Is this the Epic ending?”
Carpe let out a small sigh.
Objectively, even just Epic items were a huge win. Other players might not even know hidden grades existed.
But... it stung. The first appraisal had been Epic, building sky-high expectations, only for reality to hit hard!
“Argh. What kinda game makes rewards a gacha too? It was an Epic quest, and I cleared the extra contribution reward—shouldn't the payoff be Mythic?”
-Keep dreaming. Devs ain't that generous. Epic quests don't always give Epic rewards—rare even. Take Magical Fist Lord: Mythic class, but the homunculi rewards are all Epic.
“Whoa, true. I've been getting shortchanged. Gotta call RaSe HQ and file a complaint.”
-Shortchanged, my ass.
“Whatever. Still insanely fun, though.”
Every minute was basically a gacha pull.
A gacha where every pull guaranteed at least Legendary to Epic!
Sure, one potion per pull, but totally worth it.
Staring at the dazzling item info during cooldowns? Pure dopamine rush.
“Mmm. This one's got killer options too. Official Legendary items on servers? Under ten known. Here? Tripping over 'em.”
-Game's not even a year old. Give it two years, Legendary supply loosens up.
“Oh yeah, you came here once too, right? What'd you snag?”
-Staff. Legendary+. Damn thing was solid—used it forever... Hey, cooldown's up.
“For real. Back at it.”
Carpe chugged the moment cooldown ended and dove back into appraising.
Another hour passed like that.
Legendary+ grade item 'New Moon Glow' successfully appraised.
“Ugh, heat up already!”
Carpe was starting to get antsy.
This hour was even worse: just three more Epics. The rest? All Legendary.
“At this point, gotta assume Epic's the ceiling here?”
-Heh. Mental gymnastics? No way. Mythic's hiding, you just suck at RNG?
“Argh, whose side are you on?!”
-Freebie freeloaders are my enemies. Quit griping, potion up.
“Urk...”
Carpe grimaced and pulled a potion from inventory.
About an hour and a half in, he spotted a massive flaw in this infinite potion rush.
“...Sick of it.”
Two hours of nonstop potion chugging? Nauseating.
RaSe mana potions tasted like sweet grape juice—most players loved 'em.
But not after hundreds. Even the tastiest drink sours at one-per-minute for two hours. At least no satiety penalty.
“Damn. Didn't see that coming. Next time, mix flavors.”
-Chug. Tons of unappraised items waiting.
“Gah!”
Carpe squeezed his eyes shut and downed it. Sweet? Bullshit. Just bile now.
“Gack. Reward time shouldn't hurt like this...”
-Karma for all your freebies. Pay up now, or lightning strikes mid-street, 10-star patron spirit taxidermy. Keep it clean. Don't make Mukhyang an orphan.
“Damn it!”
-Hate it? Grab an Epic and bail. Still a jackpot.
He said that, but Cheonma knew—and Carpe knew—he knew.
Carpe's personality? No quitting. He'd grind all three hours, last item inclusive!
Another 30 minutes ticked by.
“Hurk. Gonna puke. Blue flavor's done!”
-Hold it! Pull more! Gacha heaven awaits!
But no Mythic, no matter how many appraisals.
Didn't care anymore. Just escape potion hell.
Couldn't, though. That “maybe next one...” kept him hooked.
Ten more minutes.
“Teacher... dodged dead event, now dying to potions...”
-You won't die! Drink!
Another ten minutes. Ten left total.
“...”
192 items appraised so far.
13 Epics. Rest Legendary.
Finally, reality sank in.
“...No Mythics here.”
-Wrong. There are. I saw 'em. Swear.
“Agro pull's useless. I'm enlightened now.”
Enlightened? Or brain-fried from potion taste... Anyway, mind at ease.
“Hit 200 and bounce.”
Two minutes to three hours: appraisal 200 achieved. Decision made.
“Among the Epics, this one's most usable.”
Of the 13 Epic gear, he tentatively picked the headband named 'Triple Flower Purity'.
Insanely amplified skill damage and MP—perfect for current Carpe.
-Hm. Item growth option too. Usable till endgame.
“Yeah. Compromise with th—wait, compromise?”
No compromise!
Three hours of suffering? Feet wouldn't move.
-No compromise? Time's up. Under a minute. Cooldown anyway.
“No. One shot left.”
Carpe approached a nearby display. Unappraised bracelet and headband there.
“World Tree's Blessing!”
World Tree's Blessing activated. Ignores unrecoverable effects and fully restores HP/MP.
Once-per-day special.
MP full restore in a flash. Over 4,000 MP now—straight to two Unlocks.
“Unlock! Unlock!”
Successfully unlocked unappraised item.
Successfully unlocked unappraised item.
Under 10 seconds left. Carpe quickly checked grades only.
Bracelet first.
Item Grade: Legendary+
“Pass.”
Carpe replaced the bracelet, checked the headband. 5 seconds left.
Item Grade: Epic+
“Ah, Epic too... Wait?!”
-Gasp?
Fwosh!
Beast-like reflexes.
Carpe spotted the special symbol after Epic and dropped the 'Triple Flower Purity' he'd planned to take. Notification followed.
3 hours have passed since entering the Holy Treasury. You are being forcibly ejected.
Fwoom!
Bright light enveloped Carpe, an irresistible force ejecting him to the Holy Treasury entrance.
“You're out, brother!”
The Saintess, who'd waited outside for three hours, greeted him.
But Carpe couldn't respond.
All focus on the final item's info window.
“Br-brother? You okay? Why the blank stare...”
“It... ”
“It?”
“CAME!! This is the game!!!”
“Pardon? Huh?”
The item info floating before Carpe's eyes read as follows.
◈ Classification: Headband, ???, Quest Item
◈ Equip Req: All Stats 100+
◈ Description: One of three treasures said to be held by the Demon God's in an ancient tale from the Ma-gye, long forgotten even there.
Just the intro was enough—Carpe knew it was jackpot.
