The Destructive Power of the Unique Towers
After seeing the power of the Reinforced Warbow Tower, I became even more curious. What would happen if I upgraded the Heavy Crossbow Tower? I pressed the upgrade button immediately.
Siege Ballista Tower
Gigantic Beast Slayer Tower
Unique Tier
“Wow, fuck.”
Just from the names, I could already imagine the kind of power they possessed. After all, a ballista was one of the most famous siege weapons in history.
Siege Ballista first!
Level 1
A siege tower that fires bolts.
• Fires once every 10 seconds.
• Auto-fire mode (can be switched to manual).
I summoned it on the apartment rooftop right away and switched my view. Its shape was slightly different from the previous towers.
Figures. It really is a siege weapon.
The ballista was shielded by sturdy wooden walls to protect it from outside attacks.
This should work nicely.
As expected, I could install it on top of or inside a Wooden Watch Tower. When I summoned it inside, an arrow slit opened up. Calling it an arrow slit felt wrong though—the loaded bolt was practically the size of a short spear.
To test its power, I aimed at the spot the Reinforced Warbow Tower had struck earlier and fired.
Clack— Whoosh!
A heavy sonic boom no arrow could ever produce. The result it created was immediate.
Rumble— Craaaash!
With a deafening crash, the entire front wall of the house collapsed.
That settled it. These bolts weren’t designed for penetration. They were pure destruction—decisive weapons meant to annihilate their targets.
“With this thing, I could probably win a war against an entire zombie kingdom, not just regular zombies.”
It sounded like a joke, but it wasn’t something I could laugh off. As the waves continued, jokes like this would become cold reality.
Rumble.
The reload speed was surprisingly fast too. The mechanism on the back wound up, pulling the hook connected to the string and loading the next bolt in seconds.
If the Siege Ballista Tower was already this strong, I couldn’t wait to see the Unique one. I upgraded it immediately.
Unlike the others, it came with an extra skill description.
They added a pointless flavor text. Does that mean it’s even more special?
I’d find out by using it. I tried to summon it right away, but the option glowed red. The summoning area was simply too large.
Just how big is this thing?
It was so massive it would have jutted out from the apartment rooftop.
I’ll have to test this one later.
Besides, with a three-day cooldown, it felt too wasteful to fire it just for an experiment.
I upgraded the Wooden Maul and Wooden Longspear Towers as well. I’d moved them to the top of the smithy queue, so they should finish tomorrow. The Wooden Hammer and Wooden Spear Towers still needed weapon production first. The Wooden Hammer unlocked into a Warhammer, and the Wooden Longspear became a Javelin Tower.
◈ Warhammer Tower: A tower that smashes down with steel hammers.
• Attacks once every 10 seconds.
• Weapon production on standby (linked to smithy).
◈ Javelin Tower: A tower that launches throwing spears.
• Fires once every 5 seconds.
• Weapon production on standby (linked to smithy).
Both towers had short cooldowns. They seemed perfect for dealing with large groups of enemies.
I upgraded the Stone Bow Tower into a Heavy Stone Bow Tower, and the Bola Tower into a Cast Net Tower.
Level 1
A tower that launches weighted fishing nets.
• Fires once every 5 minutes.
• Auto-fire mode (can be switched to manual).
I tested it quickly. When the bundled net fired, it spun open in mid-air. It seemed less like an attack tool and more like a restraint device. Regular zombies would probably just flail helplessly if they got caught in it. I liked this one a lot too.
After finishing all the upgrades, I felt both reassured and refreshed.
“Suhyuk…”
“Noona, let’s get you back in bed.”
Yeonhee noona had woken up and was reaching out to be carried. I lifted her in a princess carry and brought her to the bed.
“Mmm.”
Even while being carried, she latched onto my chest and sucked without getting tired.
She’s sleeping well.
Luckily Chaei didn’t wake up. I carefully laid noona down and was about to lie down myself when—
“Huk.”
The moment I lay down, Chaei reached out and grabbed me.
I thought she was awake.
Must have been sleep-talking. I felt the soft, squishy sensation of her breasts. I was too exhausted to care and fell asleep immediately.
In the darkness, a figure squirmed and moved.
Slurp. Lick, lick, lick.
Like it had found something delicious, it licked with great care. Then—
Chup, slurp, chuup, chup, slurp.
It wasn’t enough. It took the whole thing into its mouth and sucked.
Smack, slurp, chuup, slooorp, slurp—
Frustrated that nothing remained, it swallowed deeper, but there was nothing left.
“Ung…”
It let out a dissatisfied grumble and lay back down.
“Nngh…”
Did I overdo it yesterday? A weight pressed down on me that I had never felt before.
I thought it was sleep paralysis.
I moved Chaei, who was lying on top of me with her whole body, to the side and got up.
“Ung…”
The moment I moved, she woke up like she had a sixth sense.
“Did you sleep well, Suhyuk?”
“Yeah, I slept great. Did you sleep well, noona?”
“Yeah.”
Yeonhee noona woke up at the same time. It was clearly a good morning, the kind that warmed your heart, yet—
Why does this feel so wrong?
It felt like I was doing something bad. I helped noona up as she tried to rise from the bed.
No, this is definitely a good thing… right?
Han Chaei clinging tightly to my arm and Yeonhee noona holding my hand. I left the room with both women.
“I’m heading out, noona.”
“Okay, be careful. You can’t get hurt, understand?”
“Yeah, don’t worry.”
Chu. Slurp, chuup, slurp.
What started as a simple morning kiss turned into a deep kiss before I knew it. Like Pavlov’s dog, my cock immediately went into battle mode.
Should I go one round before leaving?
But with Chaei here, it would be too distracting. My steps out of the house felt heavy.
“Chaei, it’s okay if you hold on, but can you loosen up a little?”
She was literally weighing me down.
“Ung!”
Chaei stubbornly refused. Wait, she hadn’t been able to express herself this clearly yesterday. Was she slowly recovering? Half of me felt relieved, the other half disappointed. Still, she wasn’t clinging so hard that I couldn’t walk like yesterday.
“Everyone gathered?”
“Yes!”
Today’s goal for the raid members was to collect supplies from the empty houses. I had put it off until now because searching every building one by one was annoying. There was also the risk of being ambushed by hidden zombies. But fifteen days had already passed. This was day sixteen. Electricity would be cut off by one o’clock this afternoon at the latest. If we wanted to secure food before it spoiled, this was our last chance.
Of course, we would be fine even without electricity. The solar panels were installed and the generator was ready to run.
“Lead the way.”
“Yes.”
I sent two-thirds of the raid members along with the second-class residents.
“You guys head to the mineral spring.”
“Understood.”
It was a good time to check the water source while we were at it. I handed them the water quality tester I had brought back recently. Government workers had already tested it, but I didn’t fully trust their work. They might have done it half-assed because it was annoying. Using Territory Control, I confirmed there were no zombies nearby, so it should be fine.
“Then what should we do now?”
Hana and Chaei stayed behind.
“I’d like to check out Chaei’s skills too, if possible.”
“I’m curious about that too! It would be great if Chaei gets skills related to kendo!”
I agreed completely. To be honest, my expectations were high. Since Hana had fencing-related skills, there was a good chance.
“I want to spar with her someday…”
Once the topic turned to swordsmanship, Hana disappeared into her own little world.
What should I do? Giving her a weapon while she’s not fully conscious seems dangerous.
There was nothing more dangerous than handing a weapon to someone whose mind wasn’t stable. I decided to just ask directly.
“Chaei, what kind of skills do you have?”
No answer. She just buried her face in my chest and rubbed against me.
Well, I’ll find out once she recovers.
There was no rush. Right now was better anyway. The soft sensation of Chaei’s body pressed against me from head to toe. This is what a real buff and support looks like.
“Can you give me a little space soon?”
Hana gave me a look that said she couldn’t believe me.
“It’s not like I’m doing this on purpose.”
“Are you sure you don’t want it? Your face says otherwise.”
Whoops. I quickly changed my expression to something strict, serious, and solemn.
“Look at my face. Do I look like that kind of guy?”
“Don’t make that face all of a sudden!”
“Kek!”
She put me in a chokehold from behind. Wow, was she really allowed to do that? Soft breasts pressed against me from both front and back. I couldn’t stop getting hard from the morning onward.
“Pfft.”
“Pffft.”
We both burst out laughing at the same time, unable to hold it in. Hanging out and chatting like this was pretty enjoyable. With a flower in each hand, how could anything not be fun?
“Raid Captain!”
A urgent voice suddenly came through the radio.
“What is it?”
“M-monster! It’s a monster!”
“Calm down and tell me.”
At the same time, I activated Territory Control and switched my view to the leader of Team 7.
A monster? Is it a monster from outside?
Even after switching views, I couldn’t see the monster the team leader had mentioned.
“It was a reptile-like monster that came running.”
A reptile-like monster. There were too many possibilities for that description alone to narrow it down.
“It was bipedal!”
Fuck. Don’t tell me they were already coming in groups? The monster’s identity had narrowed down considerably. But that wasn’t the important part. The problem was that it was humanoid.
“Hana, get in the car!”
“Huh? Okay.”
She followed my order without asking why. Chaei followed too, refusing to separate from me.
“Move out now!”
“Yes!”
The short-haired guy who had been on standby jumped into the SUV and stepped on the accelerator.
All raid members, gather at the path leading to the mineral spring!
I used Territory Control to assemble the raid team.
It’s still too early.
The people under my protection would be fine. But if this was the full-scale beginning—
We might be doomed.
We still needed more time. It shouldn’t be progressing this quickly already.
When we arrived, the leader of Team 7 was standing there. The fact that he was fidgeting actually relieved me. If it had been a real catastrophe, he wouldn’t have been able to stand around like this.
“Raid Captain, I’m sorry. It might not even be that big of a deal, but I got all worked up—”
“We don’t have time. Just give me the briefing.”
“Yes!”
The cars carrying the other raid members were arriving one after another.
“We were climbing the path to the mineral spring when Woosung suddenly disappeared.”
It was one of the members from Team 7 standing next to the leader.
“And then?”
“While we were searching in a panic, the surrounding environment suddenly changed. That’s where we found Woosung. But we lost the rest of the team members in the process.”
I see.
“When Woosung and I retraced our steps, we could see the other members again.”
It was an isolated field. That’s why the towers hadn’t auto-summoned. Honestly, I had expected something like this to happen. I had practically been waiting for it. At this point, there was nothing left to be surprised about. We’d already had field bosses and dungeons. What was there left to shock me? I had naturally expected normal monsters to start appearing during the first wave eventually. But if they were humanoid monsters, the story changed completely.
“What exactly did you see there?”
“Bipedal monsters that looked like reptiles. They were holding weapons like people do.”
Weapons. So they really were humanoid monsters. In the end, my prediction had been correct.
“How many were there?”
“I only caught a quick glimpse right before we got out, so I only saw two.”
“Did they attack or try to follow you out?”
“No, they didn’t follow us.”
We had avoided the worst-case scenario. Still, I would have to go in myself to be sure. There was no time to hesitate. If anything, this was good. We had discovered them early.
“Where is it?”
“Right at the entrance ahead.”
“Good.”
Since it was close to the apartment, it would be easy to retreat if things went south.
“Only the team leaders follow me. Everyone else, form up and wait here.”
“Yes!!”
I had to nip this in the bud immediately.
“We’re going in.”
