The Hidden Path to Gangster Necromancer
The warp took him to the Weibra Empire, the largest empire on the Forma Continent.
It was vast—larger even than three kingdoms combined.
Yet despite its immensity, the place teemed with users.
Damn, there are really a lot of them.
It wasn't just South Korea.
People from Japan, China, and across Asia all started on the Forma Continent.
That explained the crowds.
But what impressed him even more was the fact that the empire could accommodate so many.
And there were even more uncharted regions than the known ones—a truth only Mu-hyuk knew, since he wasn't the developer.
As he slowly took in the sights, Mu-hyuk halted his steps.
Already here?
It was his destination: the library of the Weibra Empire.
The grand structure exuded an antique charm that held its own against any modern building.
No, its unique beauty surpassed contemporary architecture.
And it was spacious, towering high.
It's huge.
Stepping inside revealed a long corridor.
At its end stood a massive door, flanked by two guards.
They didn't block his path even as he drew near, so it wasn't about checking identities.
Probably just security detail.
Anyway, he passed them and pushed open the door.
Kiiiek.
The interior came into view.
A colossal hall, filled entirely with bookshelves.
Even more astonishing were the books packed densely into them.
"Whoa..."
An involuntary sigh of awe escaped him.
A middle-aged man at the entrance watched Mu-hyuk with a smile.
"Here to see the books?"
Mu-hyuk snapped back and looked at him.
"Pardon? Ah, yes."
"Take your time browsing. You can read everything here on-site, no problem. But if you want to borrow any, you'll need a special contract."
"Ah, thank you."
He had no intention of borrowing anyway.
"Alright then."
After a casual nod to the librarian, Mu-hyuk began wandering the aisles.
Each shelf had a sign indicating the category, so he skipped anything unrelated.
He moved to the next one.
[History of the Forma Continent]
History books here.
Not this section.
After passing a few more shelves, he finally found what he wanted.
[Jobs]
He stood before an enormous bookshelf.
All these books were about jobs...
He had to find the ones on Necromancer among this mountain.
Fortunately, the shelves in the center were subdivided by job type.
He reached out and pulled a random Necromancer-related book.
As he opened to the first page, he forced himself to memorize the text, even if it barely registered.
Few know the origins of the Necromancer. Some call it a branch of black magic, but that is not true. Black magic borrows power from demons at the cost of life, whereas the power of the Necromancer is...
Then came the footsteps he'd been waiting for.
It was the middle-aged man who'd greeted him at the entrance.
He managed the library's interior, patrolling every thirty minutes to tidy up and note what people were reading.
He wore an odd expression before returning to his post, repeating the cycle.
Mu-hyuk felt the man's gaze but kept reading—only Necromancer books.
Six hours passed like that.
"Hoo..."
Mu-hyuk let out a long breath and shelved the book.
The tedious ordeal was finally over.
He hurried to the librarian.
"Excuse me."
"What is it?"
"I've been reading Necromancer books, but there are so many, and they all say pretty much the same thing. It's a bit disappointing, so I was hoping for a recommendation."
"Oh? You've only been reading Necromancer books this whole time?"
"Yes."
"For six hours?"
"Ah, I didn't realize that much time had passed."
The librarian's expression shifted slightly.
Intrigued, perhaps.
"Mind if I ask your job?"
"Necromancer, but..."
The man closed his eyes briefly. After a long pause, he opened them and looked at Mu-hyuk.
"Fine. I'll recommend one. Follow me."
Mu-hyuk followed with a sigh of relief.
Tougher than I thought.
The process to obtain Gangster Necromancer was like this.
First, acquire the Necromancer job.
Second, reach level 20 and head to the Weibra Empire library.
Then spend six hours there reading Necromancer books before asking the librarian for a recommendation.
Finally, find a certain document in that book.
That triggered a linked quest, and completing it allowed the class change to Gangster Necromancer.
Just need to find the document and clear the linked quest now.
They arrived back at the Necromancer section.
The librarian picked up a long pole from the corner and used it to pull a book from high up.
He caught the falling volume and handed it to Mu-hyuk.
"Read this."
"Thank you."
Once the librarian left, Mu-hyuk opened the book alone.
He glanced around—no one nearby—then flipped through it casually.
No document.
He shook it upside down.
Still nothing.
His brow furrowed.
Why's nothing here?
Did something go wrong?
No, that couldn't be.
Plenty of people had gotten Gangster Necromancer this way afterward.
He'd trusted that info.
So the problem must be him.
He'd succeeded up to getting the recommendation.
Just needed the document.
Back to scanning the book.
Chalruk.
Again and again, but no luck.
Judging it futile, Mu-hyuk sat and started page by page from the beginning.
Page 1.
Page 2.
Page 3.
And so on.
About halfway through the thick tome.
Mu-hyuk's mindless flipping paused abruptly.
A thought flashed: Don't just skim.
His hazy focus sharpened.
He checked the previous page.
Read the last paragraph and turned it.
Ah...!
The content didn't match. Two pages were stuck together.
He wet his finger with spit and rubbed hard; the stuck sheets peeled slightly.
This is it.
Carefully separating them.
Thud.
The document finally appeared.
*
The single sheet Mu-hyuk handed over.
The librarian's face darkened as he stared at it.
"Hoo..."
An enigmatic sigh.
After deep thought, he muttered.
"Fate, perhaps."
"Fate?"
The librarian ignored him.
He just smiled and reconfirmed Mu-hyuk's original question.
"You were curious about this content, right?"
"Yes."
"Truthfully, I can't tell you. Even I don't know."
"Because it's in ancient script?"
"Ancient script can be deciphered. The reason I can't tell you is a promise to an old friend. So the only thing I can do is this."
He pulled out a paper.
Scritch.
And began writing.
"This is the current location of that document's owner—my friend. Go see him and get his permission yourself."
At that moment, a quest appeared.
[Unknown Document]
📍 Objective: Meet the document's owner
🎁 Success: Linked quest
[Accept the quest?]
No time limit.
No failure penalty.
And he knew the way.
"Yes, got it."
Of course he accepted.
*
He warped to the Hemil Empire.
Amid rundown buildings in the north.
Just before exiting the alley, Mu-hyuk stopped and eyed the door of a building that looked ready to collapse.
This the place?
He couldn't be sure from textual info alone.
But it matched "rundown building at alley's end," so no other options.
He knocked with his knuckles.
Knock knock.
No response.
Knocked again.
Still nothing. But Mu-hyuk didn't force the door.
He waited a bit, then knocked once more. After three times, a shout came.
"What bastard's making all this racket?!"
A raspy old man's voice.
"I found an ancient-script document at the Weibra library, and the librarian there told me to come here."
"Weibra librarian?"
"Yes."
He answered, but the door stayed shut.
Mu-hyuk waited silently.
One minute, then two.
"Ahem."
The old man's throat-clearing.
Kiiiek.
Shuffling sounds, then the door creaked open, revealing the old man.
Skinny frame, protruding cheekbones.
But eyes that gleamed clear and bright.
"Come in."
"Thank you."
He followed the old man inside.
A cramped room.
The old man sat at what barely passed for a table and jerked his head.
"What're you waiting for? Sit."
"Ah, yes."
As Mu-hyuk sat, the old man extended a hand.
"Hand it over."
Mu-hyuk pulled the paper from his bag.
The old man snatched it and scanned the ancient text.
Then tossed it aside.
"Hmph. What's your job?"
"Necromancer."
"That's why he sent you."
Mu-hyuk played dumb and listened.
"Fine. Necromancer's qualification enough. You've earned the right to hear this."
"What story...?"
"Ever heard of Gangster Necromancer?"
He knew, but feigned ignorance.
"No. First time."
"Figures. It's a special job passed to a tiny few. Limited to summoning only skeletons, but raise 'em right, and they won't lose to any monster. Powerful little darlings. Name's odd, sure—'cause they lead hordes like gangsters—but don't complain. Can't deny the first Gangster Necromancer lacked naming flair, though."
Darlings?
Those boneheads?
Whatever, but...
Lacked flair? It's the worst.
Of course, he kept that buried deep.
"Finding this document and coming here—fate. I'll give you a special choice."
"Choice?"
"Walk the path of Gangster Necromancer?"
That instant.
Quest 'Unknown Document' has been updated.
[Path of the Gangster Necromancer]
📍 Objective: Gain recognition from Valsian, who lives as the hidden job 'Gangster Necromancer'
🎁 Success: Class change to Gangster Necromancer
⚠ Failure: No reattempt
[Accept the quest?]
No need to hesitate.
This was why he'd come all this way.
"Of course."
The acceptance alarm rang.
Valsian burst into laughter.
"Kekeke! Scrawny look, but guts of fire! Good. I'll give you a simple test. But remember this: there's always a way. Make it happen, no holds barred."
The last part barely registered.
Past info had him too busy guessing.
The quest...
Split here.
Luck decided: easy one if good, absurd if bad.
What would it be?
"Just bring me one Orc Great Warrior."
Mu-hyuk's fist clenched instinctively.
Okay!
Just as he thought it was easier than expected.
"Don't join the fight yourself."
"Pardon?"
"Didn't get that?"
"N-no, but..."
"You just command."
"Ah..."
One phrase burned in his mind.
We're screwed.
