My First Victory
Across the Pokémon world, the regions stretch out like vast, living tapestries, each one home to its own champion who stands as the undisputed ruler of the arena.
But the passion for Pokémon battles—and the inevitable gap between the haves and have-nots—means that even within those same regions, the trainers carry clear differences in strength.
That is why, even among the champions themselves, real disparities in skill are impossible to ignore.
One name rises above the rest, the true pinnacle and the only undefeated man in all of Galar.
“Wow, Sonia is so strong!”
“…Hehe.”
I took the win in that first battle against him.
The reason was simple.
We were only seven years old, borrowing Pokémon from the lab at Professor Magnolia’s research facility—Pokémon that weren’t even our partners—and we had snuck away to fight while the adults were busy inside.
And me? I carried more than a decade of experience playing Pokémon games across the twenty-four mainline titles.
Which meant I already understood type matchups, know the formulas by heart, and knew exactly how to read a battle situation.
A veteran with over ten years of playtime had completely tripped up a brand-new trainer.
That was my first battle against the future Champion of Galar.
It might even have been the last victory I ever earned against him.
