Prologue
Spirit Engineering.
It was the product of an unstable world eaten away by another realm—the last truth left in the world, and the only answer that had ever saved it from the spirits' endless invasion. At least, that was what I believed.
"You're insane."
Which was why none of it made any sense to me. Not the agent who had already put a bullet in my gut and now stood there wearing that grave expression. Not the reason he was burning the only plan that could save the world.
"What... exactly is the problem."
"This plan. The state of your mind. All of it."
The agent said as much, and leveled the muzzle at me.
Bang!
The shot came, and in the reel of my life tearing past behind my eyes, I made myself a promise.
If there is a next life, I'll live it however I damn well please.
