The Siege of the Barony #15
Thanks to Carti’s support, there were no untoward incidents during our march. The Demon World held me in high regard; right now, supporting me was a higher priority than gathering intelligence from other regions.
And so, despite having entered enemy territory, we reached the sewers without a single skirmish.
"Kyah. We’ve finally arrived. Everyone! This is the place!"
"Keruk...!"
"But the stench is a bit intense."
"My King! It’s fucking awful in here! Kehak!"
Buril shouted while pinching his nose. It couldn't be helped. This was a literal sewer. If it didn't stink, would it even be a sewer?
But still, a sewer at night. The atmosphere was dreadful. In the worst possible way.
"It can't be helped. You have to use the dirty paths to pull off a surprise attack. Let’s all hang in there. Once we overcome this and the battle ahead, the castle beyond that wall will be ours."
Everyone’s expressions were sour due to the foul odor of the sewers, but their fighting spirit was burning bright nonetheless.
"Keureureuk."
"Gyusat-gyusat."
The anticipation of fighting humans soon was fueling their combat excitement. As their Demon King, I could feel it all.
"Kyuls-oppa. It’s starting now. There are no dangers inside. The castle’s defenses are exactly as expected, so all we have to do is go in!"
Carti said calmly.
"Good."
Then let’s head in.
"Vanessa, please cut the iron bars."
"Understood."
Vanessa, having immediately coated her blade in Dark Aura, stepped into the water.
—Splash.
Without hesitation, she walked up to the front of the sewer and sliced through the iron bars. Such bars were no match for Vanessa.
"Ugh... how unpleasant. We can enter now."
"Excellent. Buril, it’s time to advance. March in formation just as we trained. And Vanessa? Take the lead."
At my command, Vanessa immediately raised her shield and stepped inside. Even if there were no threats, one had to be cautious.
"Liliel. Lighting, on."
"Should I make it red?"
"Yes."
"Understood."
—Fwip.
The angels immediately emitted a soft, red glow from the rings above their heads. And just like that, our invincible Kyuls Demon King Army entered the sewers.
"Ugh... such unpleasant water!"
Lumika was disgusted.
"Let’s endure it for a little while, Lumika. Once we capture the castle, you can wash up properly."
"To dirty the water like this... I cannot forgive them."
I agreed.
"Sya... My King. The red light makes it feel quite mysterious. If only the water were clean, it would feel like we were out on a trip?"
"Hehehe, right. It would have been nice if the water were clean."
But there was nothing we could do about it.
"Haa. We’re returning to our original home, but having to use a back door like this... it feels strange."
"I feel the same way."
Irene and Liza said.
"I wonder if everyone at the convent is doing well?"
"That... I’m very worried about that."
At Irene’s words, Reika replied. Come to think of it, the nuns were still left inside.
Let’s see.
Would it be better to turn those nuns as well? The nuns also need to work hard on public opinion. Naturally, I should turn them. Thinking this, I silently crossed the sewer.
It was a dirty, winding space. My sense of smell had been paralyzed by the stench, but that actually worked in my favor. Since I couldn't smell anything, it was less agonizing.
Regardless, we moved along the path following Carti’s guidance.
Every so often, other Evil Eyes joined us.
—Splash, splash.
—Squeak, squeak.
All that could be heard were the sounds of water and rats.
"Keureuk-keureuk. A rat. A rat."
"Keruk. Does Gyul eat rats?"
"Gyusatsat. That’s impossible. We don’t eat dirty rats."
Even so, they were all happy just because a rat appeared. They say teenagers will laugh at the sight of a falling leaf, and these guys were enjoying themselves just seeing a sewer rat.
They really are pure, aren't they?
—Splash, splash.
How much time had passed?
"Kyuls-oppa. You need to turn off the lights now. The ladder leading to the surface is coming up soon."
"We’ve finally arrived."
The tedious sewer was now at an end. I ordered everyone to prepare for battle. The command was relayed in a chain all the way to the back.
—Fwip.
The angels’ lights went out. Silence descended.
—Vwooom.
At the same time, I could feel the mana in the surroundings fluctuating. My monster subordinates had entered combat mode to the point where even their mana was standing on edge...!
A thrill!
"Ohhh...!"
I felt a thrill!
This was the moment the most important battle was imminent. Even I was on the verge of being consumed by that excitement. It felt as if my very mana was trembling.
If we win here, I will take possession of the Baron’s castle!
And that was a foregone conclusion.
Our prepared unit was launching a night raid. The soldiers of this quasi-medieval society had a low understanding of tactics. If we fight, I win!
"All troops."
The unit members stepped aside so they could infiltrate quickly.
—Thud.
And in the darkness, I gave the order. The order to ascend to the surface and suppress the sentries.
"Advance."
As my voice echoed quietly,
—Splash, splash, splash!
—Splash, splash, splash!
—Splash, splash, splash!
The trained Goblin infantry ran out quickly! It was the 1st Platoon, with swords strapped to their waists and shields on their backs!
"Keruk...!"
And so, the Goblins clung to the ladder in a line! They climbed the ladder as quickly as they had been trained! Now, they would secure their positions up above!
—Vwoom!
The Pixies would seize air superiority.
—Vwooom!
—Vwooom!
It was loud for a sound echoing in the dead of night. Of course, there was no need to worry. My Pixies were invincible.
—Vwoom!
The launched Pixies brushed past the backs of the Goblins climbing the ladder. Good! Everything up to my soldiers reaching the surface was proceeding perfectly!
"Everyone! Everyone, get up there!"
"Kerueeuk!"
"Keureureuk!"
Quickly! I sent the soldiers up even faster!
"Good! Good! Everyone is climbing up well!"
Soon, I would lead my personal guard and head up too! And by now, the Pixies stationed in the sky must be taking out the sentries!
"Dark Elves! Move up! Go up and capture the castle walls!"
"Understood!"
Even the Dark Elves climbed up quickly.
"Carti!"
"Yes...! I’m watching! Kyuls-oppa! The Pixies that flew up are taking out the sentries! There are only a handful of enemy troops on the surface! They’re panicked, and the Goblins are forming their ranks! This is a fight we cannot lose!"
"Good! Now let’s go up! My personal guard! Follow me!"
And so.
—Fwip!
I grabbed the ladder.
Now, I was heading to the battlefield.
—Fwip!
I climbed the ladder to the surface in a flash. I had no time to worry about the rear ends of the Dark Elves above me.
The moment I emerged onto the surface.
"Kerueeeuk!"
"Kerueeuk!"
"Keruk!"
I once again felt the proficiency of my soldiers. The Goblin formation was deployed in the appropriate positions. And the Pixies were flying about. There had been a watchtower, but no humans were visible. They had already been killed and fallen!
—Vwoooom!
My soldiers were currently trampling the few human soldiers!
Perfect!
It was literally a battle no different from robbing an empty house!
"Liliel! Lighting!"
"Understood!"
—Fwip!
The space shrouded in darkness was appropriately illuminated. The night air was cold. Of course, the corpses of the humans would be cold as well.
"We break through to the main gate of the inner castle just like this!"
I already knew the location!
"Goblin infantry! Form square formations by platoon!"
"Keruk! Square formation, execute!"
The Goblins busily formed their ranks and began to advance in the direction I pointed.
"Kyaaaaaak!"
"Aack!"
Screams could be heard from atop the castle walls. A few human soldiers had put up a struggle, but they were no match for the Dark Elf special forces who had already climbed the walls using grappling hooks.
Those women were soldiers who had even completed guerrilla training. There was no way a human soldier could handle them.
—Vwoom!
"We’ve taken out all the humans we could see! They’re easy opponents! Walking in the sewers was harder!"
"Well done, Serineu! Now, fly low and just keep watch!"
"Okay!"
"Buril! Increase the speed of the advance!"
"Keruk! Increase speed! Execute!"
I followed behind the Goblin infantry. It was night. And we were inside the castle walls. There were almost no soldiers patrolling.
And so.
—Thud.
We stood before the inner castle of the Baron’s estate.
"Did they realize the situation?"
Light was seeping out from a window above. Well, of course. A commotion had broken out. Someone must be checking.
"Serineu. Plant a Wind Cutter inside that window."
"Got it!"
—Vwoom!
The Pixies flew off, and...
"Liliel! Fallen Angel unit, this way!"
"Understood!"
Liliel immediately led her subordinates to the front of the castle gate.
"Destroy the gate as you were trained!"
"Load Black Flame Cannons!"
—Whoosh!
—Whoosh!
—Whoosh!
At Liliel’s command, the Fallen Angels gathered their strength in their hands.
"Ugh, you incompetent human bastards!"
"Because of these assholes, we were...!"
"We’ll smash it all to pieces!"
The Fallen Angels muttered their complaints as they finished casting. I guess they had a lot of grievances against humans. Regardless, spheres of darkness were completed in their hands, and...
"Fire!"
The moment I gave the signal,
—Boooom!
The Black Flame Cannons fired simultaneously, striking the gate of the inner castle!
"The result...!"
Acrid smoke billowed out.
When it cleared, what was revealed was...
"Success!"
A corridor leading to the interior of the inner castle! The door had been smashed to bits!
"Destruction successful!"
"Good! Demon King! Put the Goblin shield-bearers in front! We’re entering the interior assault!"
Vanessa shouted valiantly. She was the only woman among us who had experience entering the Baron’s castle. Vanessa would lead the interior battle.
"Understood! Buril! Stand in line according to the width of the corridor! Advance!"
"Keruk! Understood!"
—Rumble!
The Goblins immediately stood in line, shields held forward, matching the width of the corridor.
"Standing like this reminds me of the dungeon! It was like this back then, too!"
"Then that means it’s a familiar battlefield! Goblins, advance!"
"Kerueeeuk!"
And so, we advanced into the interior of the Baron’s castle.
Capturing the castle was only a matter of time!
