Reality Lacks Plausibility
The streets were engulfed in chaos from the "Last Day" incident! Looters are ransacking big-box marts, criminals are crawling out of the woodwork, and police stations are short on holding cells...
The world had gone straight to hell. No surprise there—with total annihilation just days away, who could blame anyone? Those unprepared were ransacking everywhere they could just to survive a little longer. Store owners shuttered up in panic, only for criminals to smash their way in and loot the place.
My phone's iPhone might as well have been busted for all the good it did in this mess.
'Public order's collapsing faster than expected.'
People going berserk because we're all gonna die anyway. Cops and soldiers tossing their badges with a shrug of why bother working if we're doomed. Massive gaps ripped open in law enforcement.
Stores smashed, roads blocked, buildings crumbling. Stories of people beaten to death in the streets were popping up everywhere. Facing down the countdown to doom, humanity was powerless. Terror was turning everyone into monsters.
Sure, they only looked like monsters now—but real monsters would devour them soon enough. Until then, though, humans were still top dog on this planet.
The internet boards weren't much different.
Villains of every stripe flooded the boards, turning them into a total shitshow. Not that online communities weren't always a mess to begin with. In this chaotic hellscape? Even worse.
People making extreme choices ahead of disasters or wars—it's more common historically than you'd think. Choosing death on their own terms to escape the fear. Tragic, but right now, no one's got the bandwidth to stop it. Not when even the survivors are doomed.
This post, though... the comments are piling up weirdly fast.
"Haha..."
I let out a bitter chuckle and closed the community tab. No need to stare at humanity's ugly mug this early—we'd be seeing plenty soon enough.
Politics was just as much of a circus amid the apocalypse hype. Not that they were trying to quell the chaos—no, they jumped straight into conspiracy theories and finger-pointing.
Not all bullshit, though. Some politicians tried for semi-reasonable takes.
No one had a real plan. Couldn't blame 'em. This apocalypse revolved around the Last Day game. A country without game laws? How many politicians or lawmakers even get games? "Awakened abilities," "zombie raids," "gates"—probably sounds like kid babble to them.
The public wasn't stupid. They could sniff out bullshit—who to trust, who to dodge. Korea's tradition: Dump crises on the people, politicians slip away. Trust in them was tanking, as usual.
Every celeb and expert piled on with their hot takes.
.......Why does the alien invasion nutjob sound the most sane?
Long story short: Total shitshow. No one stepping up to fix it. Everyone scheming to fatten their pockets or pass the buck.
I agreed the chaos stemmed from leadership vacuum. The Blue House—supposed to lead—was radio silent. A competent president? I'd call it caution. This one? Probably haggling to sell Korea to Japan, given his track record.
Not much anyone can do now anyway.
How many hundreds died while the bigwigs yapped? A bit later, every remaining broadcast channel focused on one man: Korea's rep in a black suit. The president finally spoke.
Esteemed citizens, we know many feel terror, anxiety, and dread for the future due to this crisis.
The sky's countdown brings extinction ever closer by the minute. Our government rejects denial—we accept it and prepare.
To that end, we've consulted Last Day players on our path forward and protecting you.
The chaos is inevitable, but we'll maintain government as your shield.
Thus, from this moment, we establish a provisional government on Jeju Island, bolstering it with resources to safeguard your daily lives and peace.
Please trust us, wait patiently, and abstain from crime. We earnestly plead.
The nation exploded over this brief speech.
Predictable backlash. No vision for protection or governance. Then the prez bolts to Jeju? Pouring gas on a ticking bomb. Riots erupted. Protesters stormed the Blue House. Cops blocked 'em, but discipline was shot—cops got overrun.
Citizens seized the place, but...
"Fuck, he's gone?"
By broadcast time, the president—and his cronies, ruling and opposition alike—had fled to Jeju. They bickered on air, but united to bail when shit hit the fan. Protesters dispersed in disbelief. Everyone got the memo: Fend for yourselves now.
And so time passed.
Armageddon begins.
