Chapter Title: Flyswatter Retribution
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Dun, who had stealthily tagged along, slipped into the rickety shack and immediately looped the curse string around his wrist before grabbing the nearest object in reach.
It was a flyswatter.
Not wanting to drag things out, he swung it at one of the players the moment he gripped it. He held back from killing them. There was information he needed to squeeze out first.
“What the hell? Why’s this flyswatter hitting so hard! Items these days are OP as shit?”
The player hadn’t even considered that Dun himself was the reason for the massive health drain. As one went down, the others turned their eyes toward Dun.
“Hey, the brat’s flipping out!!”
“Take him down!!!’
One of the players raised a hefty club, aiming to knock Dun out with a blow to the head.
Crack!
The club shattered like it was made of Styrofoam.
Dun swatted the dumbfounded player across the cheek with the flyswatter.
“Gah!! Half my HP’s gone!”
“He’s a dark horse or something. Whatever, we gotta save Willy first— just kill him!!”
One swung an axe down toward the crown of Dun’s head.
“Y-you bastards!! No, Dun!!!!! Watch out!!!”
Willy, his arms bound, cried out in shock. Dun, looking annoyed, gave him a thumbs-up to say it was fine.
Clang!
The axe blade chipped on impact with Dun’s skull.
“Fuck, what the hell is this kid made of?”
“He’s gotta be wearing some special gear, right? Insane, what is he?”
Weapons kept breaking one after another despite the onslaught from all sides.
Knives, daggers, rapiers, mangoshes, flails, and more.
Amid the chaos, Dun leisurely swung his flyswatter while scanning for rope.
In a flash, he had every player bound. Unable to log out with their target right there, they glared daggers at him while trussed up.
[Unique] Soul Shackles
Description: Temporarily prevents the soul from departing.
The soul shackles came in powder form inside a small glass vial. Dun grabbed a handful of the powder and sprinkled it over their eyes and heads like he was exorcising demons.
“Argh, ack! What is this crap!”
“Feels gross!”
“Fuck off!! Untie us quick!!”
The powder didn’t sting, but it blurred their vision wherever it hit their eyes. At the same time, alert windows popped up in front of the players.
[You cannot log out for 5 hours.]
“!!!!”
“What the hell does that mean??? Is this even allowed? Doesn’t this violate game stability policies?”
“Hey!! You asshole, how’d you do this!!”
“Him, this— it’s all bugs, right? Report it! This game’s trash, total trash.”
Ignoring them, Dun went to Uncle Willy and untied his ropes. Willy checked the spot on Dun’s scalp where the axe had come down hard, but it was spotless—not even a scratch.
“Don’t worry, Uncle. My scalp’s tough.”
“Oh……. Uh……. Yeah….”
Willy eyed Dun with concern. He was unscathed to the point of absurdity.
Tied up and unable to log out, the players squirmed in confusion and muttered among themselves.
Dun smirked openly at their frantic state.
“Your path back to your world’s blocked now, huh?”
“How’d you do it!”
“How should I know.”
“You did it!”
Dun scratched his ear for a moment before casually changing the subject.
“If I killed you all here and looted your items, that’d hit you pretty hard, right? Looks like you’ve got some good stuff.”
As Dun raised the flyswatter while speaking, the players frantically shook their heads.
“S-sorry! We’re sorry!”
“D-don’t kill us!!! ……please!”
“We’re sorry! Our precious items……. It took thousands to snag that one epic……!”
Players from the Smart Blades crawled toward Dun on their knees, begging despite their bonds.
“Pull up your friends list.”
“Huh?”
“You’ve probably friended mostly other scumbags like yourselves who leech off NPCs for profit. Time to uproot that whole network.”
“!!!”
“Friends list, now.”
Dun showed them a few pebbles he’d picked up earlier while killing monsters.
“You know what these are?”
“J-just…… pebbles…….”
“These are actually epic items called Truth Stones. They glow if you lie.”
Dun placed one pebble on each player’s head. Items on your own head couldn’t be inspected.
“Drop ’em, and you die. Lie, and you die.”
The Smart Blades players sobbed as they spilled everything. Who was planning what, who the next NPC target was, what time it was set for—they confessed it all.
Maybe because it involved rival companies, the info flowed out smoothly.
Dun pulled out his picture diary and jotted down their words with crayons.
“Dun, if you just fill the diary with names and no actual entries, won’t the village moms scold you again?”
At Willy’s words, Dun shot him an incredulous look.
“You’re worried about that right now?”
In his drawings, Dun sketched in the Smart Blades players.
“Thanks, Smart Blades nobodies adventurer pack. I’ll shut down that market you’re trying to pioneer before you even get started.”
Pretending to tuck the picture diary into his subspace pouch—but actually slotting it into his inventory—Dun gripped the flyswatter.
“When you respawn, play nice and stop being a public nuisance, yeah?”
Dun swung the flyswatter down on the heads of the Smart Blades players lined up in a row.
“Gaaaaah! Never again…….”
They all dropped dead, leaving behind their inventory bundles.

On the way home, Willy kept stealing glances at Dun, who trudged along after neatly wrapping things up.
Even after living in the same village for so long, he couldn’t pin down the kid’s true nature.
Where had he come from, and what had he been up to, to gain such overwhelming strength, shamelessness, and confidence? It was extraordinary, beyond what most kids his age—or even average adults—possessed.
“Dun, wanna come over to our place and hang with Deken for old times’ sake? I’ll whip up a nice dinner.”
“Deken? He’d hate that. I peeled off all his scabs last time.”
Willy recalled how Deken blushed beet red and got all shy whenever Dun came up. Hmm, didn’t seem like hate.
“It’s fine. Deken won’t sweat the small stuff. What do you say? My wife’ll be thrilled if you come.”
“I can do lunch, but not dinner. Dinner’s a promise with Riha…… er, Mom.”
“Thought you were such a rascal, but you’re a fine boy who listens to his mom.”
Willy ruffled Dun’s hair affectionately, finding him adorable. Dun, unused to being called a good boy who minded his mom, scratched his neck and his ears turned faintly pink.
“It’s not about listening well. Just don’t wanna get chewed out.”
“Haha, kid. Embarrassed to hear you’re a cool boy who listens to his mom?”
“Shut up, that’s not it.”
Dun huffed in denial, but Willy’s laughter only grew.
He could see why the village adults grumbled about Dun but cherished him all the same.
“Uncle Willy, hold up.”
As they neared the general store, Dun beckoned to Willy.
“What’s up? Decided to eat with us after all?”
“Nah, more important—take this.”
Uncle Willy was arguably the designated victim here, handpicked for the role. Dun pressed a necklace item into his palm.
“What’s this necklace for?”
“It’s got defensive magic on it. So next time you get careless and leave your sword behind like an idiot, you’ll be safer.”
“…….”
“Not giving it ’cause it’s expensive or anything. Hold onto it till things settle down. Those adventurers mentioned other villagers, right? The next targets. Warn ’em to watch out.”
“Got it, Dun. Thanks.”
“No biggie. Stay safe.”
Willy sighed, clutching the necklace. Damn adventurers—forcing a kid to carry all this weight.
“Jonathan was right. Adventurers are no-good scum you shouldn’t associate with. Never thought they’d stoop this low.”
Dun stared hard at the fuming Willy.
“It’s just those guys being selfish pricks. Doesn’t matter if they’re adventurers—jerks like that are everywhere.”
Dun patted Willy’s back a few times to tamp down his budding adventurer phobia, then headed into the general store.

Furious after being wiped out by Dun, the Smart Blades members logged out and immediately hit up the NinaPinta community.
“Search for stuff on Dun!”
“We need to know what that guy’s deal is.”
They dove into an intense research session on Dun for the next half hour or so.
But all the info that came up was stuff everyone already knew: starting village kid, cocky attitude, hands out a ton of errands.
“No real info coming up?”
“Weird. Try posting something.”
Im Ji-hye of the Smart Blades hammered out a post seeking info on Dun.
「[Free Board] Genesis NPC Dun
Anyone know anything about this kid?
I’m level 43, and that brat killed me with a flyswatter.
He blocked logout too, and just casually pulled out epic items. No magic, but he vanishes into thin air like it’s nothing, and unlike other NPCs, attacks don’t land on him.
Share any info you have on Dun.
-Enjoying Phoenix; Blocking logout wtf;;
-LOL, I had a similar creepy experience ㄷㄷ」
The title with “Dun” in it racked up views fast. Comments poured in.
Seeing replies from folks with similar encounters, Im Ji-hye hit refresh.
「This post has been deleted.」
“Huh? What? I just posted it—who deleted my shit?”
Im Ji-hye tilted her head and reposted the exact same thing.
But that one vanished just as quick.
“The heck? What’s going on?”
Her competitive streak kicked in, and Im Ji-hye started spamming copies via copy-paste.
「Isn’t this a bot? reCaptcha」
As posts flooded in, a “prove you’re not a robot” prompt appeared. Im Ji-hye sighed and selected the traffic light images to verify.
“Whoa! What the—!!!”
In the brief verification window, all her posts had been nuked.
「Inappropriate behavior detected. Account suspended.」
“Why! Why me!”
“Shouldn’t have spammed like that.”
Im Ji-hye smacked her forehead. This was pissing her off for real.
“Lend me your account ID, someone.”
“For what?”
“Nothing much.”
Already flagged as a bot? Might as well go all in. Im Ji-hye cracked the security and ran a macro to blast dozens of posts at once.

Dun’s name proliferated across the site.
The posts got deleted instantly, but it was enough to stir controversy.
A few days later, blogs, websites, and cafes outside the community buzzed with Dun-related posts.
Stuff like:
「Dun Illuminati Conspiracy」
「Dun GM (Game Master) Suspicions」
「Dun Post Deletion Reports Collection」
The Smart Blades crew gaped at the flood of Dun tips rolling in.
That little brat was the juiciest NPC goldmine.
“Argh, if you suspected something, move quietly, Im Ji-hye!!! You spilled the beans!!”
“I don’t know!!!! I’ll beg the blog owners to delete ’em!!!”
“With everything lost to Dun, he’s our only shot at turning this around!”
The Smart Blades grimaced as they scrambled to clean up the viral mess.
Someone else was pitching in on damage control too—more Dun posts vanishing.
But the suspicions around Dun only snowballed.
