I Became a Necromancer
“Hah… Hah…!!”
The floor was littered with corpses. Among them were the bodies of Seo Ji-su and Seong Dong-seok, who had been working alongside me just moments ago. Three green monster corpses were mixed in as well. Five bodies in total lay sprawled before my eyes.
“F-fuck. What the hell am I supposed to do? If more of those monsters come in…!”
I was shaking so violently the curses wouldn’t even come out right. Why was this happening? I kept spitting “fuck, fuck” under my breath while gnawing on my thumbnail.
Distribute your skill points.
I muttered toward the empty air with a trembling voice.
“S-status window!”
If nothing had appeared, it would have been incredibly embarrassing, but thankfully something did pop up.
Kang Min-gu lv.1
Job: Necromancer
Sub-job: None
HP: 23/30 MP: 10/10
Held Gold: 1 gold
STR: 3 CON: 3 DEX: 4 INT: 2
Skill Points: 1
Skills
Rise (lv.0 — Invest points to activate)
Siphon Hand (lv.0 — Invest points to activate)
Gate of Rest (lv.0 — Invest points to activate)
“So this is the status window. It’s pretty straightforward…”
Having played plenty of games, I could understand it easily. STR is strength, CON is probably constitution or stamina, DEX is dexterity, and INT is intelligence… But damn, my stats look pathetically low. I’d need to compare them with other people to know for sure.
I turned my attention to the skills. They said it was a five-star job. These skills have to be anything but ordinary. How do I see the detailed descriptions?
I reached out and touched the status window. When my finger landed on a skill name, a detailed explanation floated in the air.
Raises the dead as loyal servants. The resurrected corpse becomes the caster’s thrall and obeys any command. Derived skills: Appearance Restoration, Intelligence Restoration, etc.
Drains life force from any living being the caster’s hand touches. Derived skills: Remote Siphon, Multi-Target Siphon, etc.
Summons a gate leading to the Cradle of Rest. Derived skills: Expansion, Gate Shift, etc.
My breathing grew ragged. I only had one skill point. That meant I could only activate one of the three skills right now.
Which skill do I need most to survive? Siphon Hand is out. It requires direct contact with the enemy. The derived skills suggest it might eventually drain life from a distance, but that won’t help me immediately.
Rise? That’s probably the signature necromancer skill. But it means fighting alongside corpses… Can I really do that?
What about Gate of Rest? What is the Cradle of Rest anyway? Some kind of door to another place?
After turning the question over and over in my mind, I finally decided to invest the point in Rise. Skill points will probably appear again later anyway. I can pick the others up afterward.
I manipulated the status window and assigned the point to Rise. The skill’s level changed to lv.1, and a more detailed description appeared.
Raises the dead as loyal servants. The resurrected corpse retains its abilities from life and becomes the caster’s thrall, obeying any command. Only corpses whose total stats are lower than the caster’s total stats can be raised. Once raised, the thrall cannot be released from the master-servant bond until it is completely destroyed. (Current maximum thralls: 0/1)
Derived skills: Appearance Restoration, Intelligence Restoration, etc.
“It worked!”
Saliva slid down my throat. I could now raise one of the corpses in front of me.
Which one should I choose? Would a monster be better? No… From what I saw, Dong-seok fought way better than those monsters. Raising him to fight for me would be the smartest choice.
Since I could only raise one right now, I had to choose carefully. When the green monsters burst in, Dong-seok had been the one who fought the hardest. He’d grabbed a kitchen knife and bravely faced three of them. He managed to kill two, but the last one stabbed him and he died. Still, that final monster had been fatally wounded by his knife, which let me finish it off easily. Come to think of it, I survived because of him.
But… I felt zero reluctance about raising a corpse. Those two bastards, Dong-seok and Ji-su, were younger than me yet constantly looked down on me and treated me like trash. I’d fantasized about killing them tens of thousands of times in my head. I’d resurrect them as my thralls and work them to the bone!
I approached Dong-seok’s corpse, reached out my hand, and spoke quietly.
“Rise.”
The body lying on the floor didn’t twitch. Dong-seok’s corpse remained completely motionless.
“Huh? Why isn’t it working? Rise! Rise!!”
No matter how many times I shouted, the corpse didn’t budge. Wondering what I’d done wrong, I opened the status window again and reread the skill description.
“Ah, fuck… There it is.”
My eyes locked onto one particular line.
“So I can’t raise anyone who was stronger than me when they were alive. Of course Dong-seok’s stats would be higher than mine…”
Clicking my tongue, I turned my gaze toward the monsters.
“Haa, guess I have no choice. I’ll have to raise one of the monsters to fight. Rise.”
…Once again, nothing happened. It felt like something snapped inside my head with a loud crack.
“Are you fucking kidding me? My stats are lower than these tiny monsters? They didn’t even look that strong when they were fighting! This is seriously pissing me off!”
I glared at the fallen corpses while fuming for a long time. Huu… Calm down. There’s nothing I can do about it. If I’d known this would happen, I would’ve exercised more…
I shifted my eyes to Seo Ji-su’s corpse. She had been the first to die, struck by something shot from a long tube one of the small green monsters carried.
She always acted so haughty just because her face was a little pretty, looking down on everyone. To think someone like her died so easily. Life really is fleeting.
Still… could I even raise Ji-su’s corpse? I’m a man, after all. There’s no way my stats are lower than hers, right?
With a nervous heart, I reached out my hand and spoke.
“Rise.”
Black smoke suddenly poured from my hand and enveloped Ji-su’s entire body. The smoke was sucked into every opening—her eyes, nose, mouth. I felt something being forcibly drained from my own body, and at the same time, the corpse that had been lying on the floor staggered to its feet.
“It worked!!”
Even though a corpse had just risen, I didn’t feel any fear. Maybe because she’s my thrall now.
Seo Ji-su, risen from death, didn’t look all that different from when she was alive. The green veins spreading from the needle still stuck in her neck were a bit grotesque, but it wasn’t that bad. The vomit around her mouth dirtied her front, but whatever. She stood upright, staring at me with vacant eyes. She looked like a doll with no intelligence whatsoever.
There was a derived skill called Intelligence Restoration. It probably restores her mind from when she was alive. But that’s something I can only do after leveling up the skill, so no need to think about it yet. Let’s test a command first.
“For starters, go to the kitchen and wash that vomit off. It’s disgusting.”
The moment the order left my mouth, Ji-su staggered toward the kitchen. She walked up to the sink but then stopped, unable to continue. She simply wandered around the sink as if she didn’t know what to do.
“What the hell? You can’t even follow a simple order like that? God, your brain really is useless.”
Even when I mocked her, she just kept blankly circling the sink. A strange sense of satisfaction washed over me. Oppa, isn’t your head seriously bad? I could almost hear the voice of that bitch Ji-su from when she was alive. Even though I was three years older, she and Dong-seok would always laugh behind my back and treat me like I was nothing.
With a helpless sigh, I walked over to her, turned on the faucet, and wiped the vomit from her clothes. Ji-su stood still, not rejecting my touch even though the water must have felt cold and unpleasant.
Now that I think about it… she’s my thrall now, isn’t she? That means… I can do whatever I want to her.
After roughly cleaning off the vomit, I placed my hand on Ji-su’s face. It was cold. Well, she was a corpse until a minute ago. That’s to be expected.
I continued stroking her face. If I had done something like this while she was alive, Ji-su—or rather that bastard Dong-seok—would have punched me. But not anymore.
That’s right. She’s my thrall now.
I grabbed the breast of the motionless girl. A slightly firm texture met my palm. Must be because she’s wearing a bra. If I slip my hand inside…
I slowly removed the apron she was wearing, then began unbuttoning her blouse. A tingling sensation rose from my lower belly and shot straight to my heart. I swallowed hard.
Once all the buttons were undone, a black bra came into view. Seo Ji-su’s breasts, which looked like a full C-cup. How many times had I fantasized about burying my face between them and kneading them?
Swallowing again, I reached for the hook of her bra—
“Kekekek!”
A monstrous shriek echoed from outside.
