The Day We Meet Again, I Will Definitely Make You Happy
The spring sunlight was warm and gentle.
Han Seojun squinted against the bright rays pouring through the classroom window, his chin resting lazily in his hand. The gentle breeze carried the faint scent of flowers from the school garden, stirring a strange restlessness in his chest.
Why does my heart feel so heavy today?
It was the last class of his third year in high school. The teacher’s voice droned on about university entrance exams and future careers, but none of it registered. Seojun’s gaze drifted aimlessly across the room until it landed on the empty desk by the back window.
That seat had been vacant for three days now.
“Hey, Seojun. You listening?”
His best friend, Kim Minjae, poked him in the side with a pencil. Seojun blinked and turned his head slightly.
“What?”
“You’ve been spacing out since morning. Is something wrong? You look like you lost your soul or something.”
Seojun forced a weak smile and shook his head.
“It’s nothing. Just… thinking about the future, I guess.”
But that was a lie.
The truth was, he couldn’t stop thinking about her.
Lee Siyeon.
The girl who had sat in that empty seat for the past three years. His childhood friend. The one who had always been by his side since they were kids, sharing snacks, secrets, and quiet moments under the old cherry blossom tree behind the school.
Three days ago, she had suddenly stopped coming to class. No notice. No message. Just… gone.
At first, he thought she was sick. Then he worried she might have gotten into an accident. But when he called her house, her mother’s voice had been strangely cold.
“Siyeon won’t be coming to school anymore. Please don’t contact her.”
That was all.
Seojun’s fingers tightened around his pen until the plastic creaked. The uneasy feeling in his chest grew heavier, like a stone sinking deeper into dark water.
Siyeon… where are you?
The bell rang, signaling the end of class. Students burst into chatter, packing their bags and rushing out. Seojun remained seated, staring at the empty desk as if willing her to appear.
Minjae slung his bag over his shoulder and gave Seojun a light slap on the back.
“Come on, let’s go. The guys are waiting at the arcade. You need to blow off some steam.”
“You go ahead. I’ll catch up later.”
Minjae hesitated, then shrugged.
“Suit yourself. But seriously, if something’s bothering you, just tell me, okay?”
Once the classroom emptied, silence settled over the room like a heavy blanket. Seojun slowly stood up and walked to Siyeon’s desk. His fingertips brushed the smooth wooden surface where she used to rest her books.
A faint trace of her favorite strawberry-scented hand cream still lingered in the air. Or maybe it was just his imagination.
He closed his eyes and let out a long, shaky breath.
Memories flooded in without warning.
The two of them as children, running through narrow alleyways with ice cream dripping down their hands. Siyeon’s bright laughter when he pushed her on the swing at the playground. The way her cheeks would flush pink whenever he teased her about liking him.
And then… that night five hundred years ago.
Seojun’s eyes snapped open.
What the hell was that?
A dizzying wave of unfamiliar images crashed through his mind. A vast palace bathed in moonlight. The weight of ornate robes on his shoulders. A woman in flowing silk, her eyes filled with tears as she reached out to him.
“Jae… my beloved Jae…”
The voice echoed in his head, soft and heartbreaking.
Seojun staggered back, gripping the edge of the desk. His heart pounded violently against his ribs.
Who is Jae? Why does that voice sound so much like Siyeon?
The vision faded as quickly as it had come, leaving behind only a deep, aching longing that refused to leave his chest.
He didn’t understand it. But one thing was certain.
He had to find her.
Right now.
Seojun grabbed his bag and ran out of the classroom. The hallway was nearly empty, the afternoon light casting long shadows across the linoleum floor. His footsteps echoed loudly as he sprinted toward the school gate.
As he burst through the front doors, the warm spring air hit him like a wave. Cherry blossoms danced in the breeze, their pale pink petals swirling around him like snow.
And there, standing beneath the old cherry blossom tree just outside the school gates, was a girl in a simple white dress.
Her long black hair swayed gently in the wind. She turned slowly, as if she had been waiting for him all along.
Their eyes met.
Time seemed to stop.
Seojun’s breath caught in his throat. The world around him blurred until only she remained in sharp focus.
Siyeon.
She looked exactly the same as always. Yet somehow… different. There was a quiet maturity in her eyes that hadn’t been there before. A gentle sadness mixed with something warm and familiar.
She smiled at him. That same soft, slightly shy smile that had always made his heart skip a beat.
“Seojun-ah.”
Her voice was like a gentle spring rain, washing away the heavy stone that had been crushing his chest.
He took a hesitant step forward, then another. Before he knew it, he was running toward her.
Siyeon opened her arms without hesitation.
When their bodies collided in a tight embrace, Seojun felt something deep inside him click into place. Like two halves of a broken soul finally becoming whole again.
Her familiar scent enveloped him. The warmth of her body against his chased away every doubt, every fear.
“Siyeon…” he whispered into her hair, his voice cracking. “Where have you been? I was so worried. Your mom said—”
She pulled back just enough to look up at him. Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, but her smile was radiant.
“I’m sorry for disappearing without a word. There were… things I had to take care of. But I’m here now.”
Seojun cupped her face with both hands, his thumbs gently brushing away the tears that finally spilled over.
“Don’t ever do that again. You have no idea how crazy I went these past three days. I thought I’d never see you again.”
Siyeon’s hands came up to cover his. Her touch was tender, almost reverent.
“I won’t. I promise. No matter what happens… I’ll always come back to you.”
Her words carried a weight that went far beyond a simple promise between childhood friends. There was something ancient in her voice, something that resonated with the strange visions still lingering in his mind.
But right now, none of that mattered.
All that mattered was that she was here. In his arms. Smiling at him like he was her entire world.
Seojun leaned down and pressed his forehead against hers. Their breaths mingled in the narrow space between them.
“Siyeon.”
“Yes?”
“In this life… I swear I’ll make you happy. No matter what it takes. I won’t let you cry again. I won’t let anyone take you away from me.”
Her eyes widened slightly, as if his words had struck something deep within her soul. Then she smiled again, brighter than the spring sun overhead.
“I know you will. Because you always have.”
She rose onto her tiptoes and brushed her lips against his in the softest, sweetest kiss.
It was brief. Almost chaste. But it sent fireworks exploding through every nerve in Seojun’s body.
When she pulled away, her cheeks were flushed pink, just like when they were kids.
“Let’s go home,” she whispered. “Together.”
Seojun took her hand, intertwining their fingers tightly. The cherry blossoms continued to fall around them like blessings from the heavens.
As they walked away from the school, hand in hand, neither of them noticed the faint, ethereal glow that briefly shimmered around their joined hands before fading away.
Nor did they see the ancient golden characters that flickered in the air for just a moment before vanishing:
The threads of destiny have been rewoven.
Two souls, separated by five centuries, have found each other once more.
May this lifetime be filled with the happiness they were denied before.
Seojun glanced down at Siyeon, who was humming softly as she walked beside him. Her profile looked so peaceful, so perfectly in place next to him.
He didn’t understand the strange visions or the mysterious golden text.
But one thing he knew with absolute certainty.
This time, he would protect her.
This time, he would love her with everything he had.
And no force in this world or the next would ever tear them apart again.
