Minor Streamer
The first round had ended in a ridiculous anticlimax, so I treated it as a wash and started a second match.
"Hey, have a little conscience and go snipe somewhere else."
- Why would I, lol
- To be fair, your reaction just now was insanely good
- That reaction was so damn tasty, lol. Is this what a newbie looks like?
"If you keep this up, I’m going to keep the screen off until I land."
And with that, I actually cut the broadcast feed. The chat filled with groans and apologies, but I had no intention of turning it back on until I hit the ground again.
"I should head somewhere empty at the start."
I started my drop toward a place on the map that was obviously so out of the way no one would bother landing there. Only after I confirmed that nobody else was heading for the same destination did I reconnect the feed.
- Peaceful
- Sniper count: 0, success!
- We still don’t know that for sure, lol
"Hey, hey, I really am a newbie. I need to know how the game works first."
Saying that, I headed into a hut at my landing point. I didn’t know which guns were good, but one familiar name caught my eye.
"An AK? Is this good?"
- Decent, except the recoil is pretty rough
- Might be tough for a newbie
- 7.62 is god-tier
- 7.62 is god-tier, for real
- Pretty solid as a first gun
After that, I carefully picked up some 7.62mm rounds and even a helmet before leaving the area. By then, a notice had started appearing along the bottom of the screen, warning that the safe zone was already shrinking.
"Wait. I have to go from here all the way over there?"
I opened the map, and the shrinking circle was farther than I expected.
- Yep, you’ve gotta get that far if you don’t want to take damage
- That’s why people usually ride motorcycles or cars
- First circle is fine, no problem
- Just run for your life, lol
There were no vehicles nearby, so I ran like a madman. I knew the named cities were where most people liked to land, so I kept as far away from them as I could while I ran.
Rat-a-tat-tat!
"Whoa, that scared me."
- They’re not shooting at you, lol
- LMAO
- This newbie is kind of sexy...
- There’s probably someone taking over the school, so you should go around it
I detoured far around the place marked School on the map and slipped into the safe zone.
The circle was closing faster than I could run, so my stamina dropped a little, but I recovered some of it with the bandages I’d picked up at the start.
"So bandages stop working once your health hits 80 percent. Then I just keep going inward from here?"
- Yeah, that’s right
- Now the real game starts
- You need to find more guns too. One isn’t enough.
While I was playing and watching the chat, something weird suddenly caught my eye.
"Hey, isn’t that a person on the road over there?"
Way off in the distance, something was moving on the road. They’d said there were no AI bots in Battle Sky, so if it was moving, it had to be a real person.
- It’s a person
- But don’t you need a scope? Trying to shoot from here is kind of a stretch...
- Just go. You won’t hit them anyway
- Don’t reveal your position. Just go
"Hey, is it okay if I follow that person?"
- ? lol
- Newbies really do think differently
- It’s not impossible, I guess, lol
It was only a silhouette in the distance, but maybe because I’d gone five minutes in a PvP game without seeing anyone, finding a person at all felt oddly exciting. So I decided to secretly trail behind them.
Rat-a-dat! Bang! Rat-a-dat!
"Wow, that person’s good."
They paused for a moment to fire at something, and then, perfectly timed, two kill notifications popped up.
- Wow, they’re clearing the way for you, lol
- Legendary, lol
- But they never even look behind them once
That left three survivors. As the safe zone got smaller, the damage from being outside it got worse, and I hadn’t realized that until I’d panicked my way back inside with barely any health left.
"Hey, I’ve used up all my bandages."
- A newbie getting a guaranteed top 3 on their second match, lol
- But that’s not really skill, is it, lol
- Have you even fired your gun?
"Is this a shooting game? Or Running Man?"
As someone who had been trailing one person’s ass without firing a single shot, I honestly couldn’t tell whether this was a gun game or Running Man.
Bang!
Another kill notification appeared. There were two survivors left... two?
First, me. And then, that guy.
"Huh?"
- This is it
- Scope in and shoot
- You’ve gotta fire before they turn around, hurry up
- Go go go go go go go
- A newbie gets chicken on their second game?
Before I even realized what I was doing, I aimed and fired. I’d switched the gun to full-auto when I picked it up, so holding down the mouse button emptied an entire magazine.
And then the screen changed, and there it was:
The very same victory screen I’d seen in those viral chicken dinner screenshots was glowing before me.
- He actually got chicken, lol
- Chicken dinner on the second game, wow
- How is this even possible, lol
- That poor guy must be furious, lol
- A one-kill win? In two matches? This is seriously legendary
"Is this how you do it?"
At my dazed reaction, the chat exploded all at once. People were saying it was legendary that someone who had never even played an FPS before had placed first in only two matches, that it was a scene worthy of going down in the platform’s history, and all sorts of things like that.
"Oh, right, the bet!"
I checked the bet I’d forgotten about. Chicken dinner: 3 percent. Failure: 97 percent. Looking at how heavily the points were stacked to one side, it seemed most of the viewers who knew the broadcast had bet on failure.
"Wow, the people who bet on chicken made out like bandits."
- The 300-point reverse bet is insanely tasty, lmaooooooo
- Who are you? Where am I?
- Who even are you?
- LMAO, everybody’s got amnesia together
"Congratulations to everyone who picked number one!"
Saying that, I hit the settlement button. This game was fun.
"Should I go again?"
- GOGOGOGOGOGOGO
- But now I have no points left to bet, lol
- GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO
"The people spamming go right now are all the ones who just won, aren’t they?"
- Yep. Hurry up and open it, my head’s spinning
- LOL, now you guys know how it feels to lose everything
- Hahahahahaha
But after that, I learned something while playing.
The second match had been made by luck piled on luck.
I went a full ten matches without getting even one kill.
- LMAO
- The talent is brutal
- How did you even win the second match, lol
- That’s talent too, man
"Ugh, I’m about ready to swear..."
*
"Aramdan, Lua~"
At her bright greeting, the chat exploded with the word [Lua]. The phrase that had become Luccia’s broadcast greeting had long since taken on the role of an eight o’clock alarm.
"March 28, 2025. Let’s begin the stream!"
- Sound the drums~~~~
- The queen has arrived~~~~~
- A clip of someone banging a gong, roughly speaking
- LMAO
- It staaaaarrrrrrttttssssssss
- It staaaaarrrrrrttttsssssssssssss
As befit a streamer worthy of the word powerhouse, Luccia, who regularly drew more than 20,000 viewers on average, usually spent the first hour of her stream chatting about daily life, visiting cafes, or talking while watching video donations.
"Thank you for the thousand-won donation! The title is... Is This the Luck of a Beginner?"
In the video, there was a streamer playing Battle Sky. There were only two survivors left, and the person standing in front of them was the last one.
"Huh?"
The streamer and Luccia let out the same exclamation at the same time, and a moment later the rattling burst of full-auto fire emptied an entire magazine, followed by Battle Sky’s signature victory screen congratulating the winner.
"Whoa."
With that, the video ended.
The chat was filled with question marks, but Luccia herself knew exactly what she was seeing.
"Hey, could that really happen?"
- And apparently that person’s never played an FPS even once
"They’ve never played an FPS before, and they can do that?"
After skimming the flood of chat scrolling past like a waterfall, she pieced together the situation.
"So this was an FPS newbie, they died before they even opened their parachute on the first match, and that was their second game?"
- Yep
- That’s right
- Exactly
- Yep
- Yeah
"And they got chicken like that? Does that even make sense?"
- A newbie getting a one-kill chicken dinner in two matches... legendary
"Man, I took so many matches to get chicken..."
Luccia searched her memories. There had been dozens of times when she’d seen an opponent, reacted too slowly, and died before she could fire. Dozens more when she’d made it all the way to the end and lost the chance at the last possible moment.
And that person?
"The world really is unfair..."
- LMAO
- A veteran suddenly remembering the old days, lol
- But then they died after that and went ten straight games without a single kill, lol
"Seriously? That’s amazing."
"Oh! Thank you for the ten-thousand-won donation! Congratulations on getting a job! But is that part at the end really true?"
- LMAO
- Luccia does count
- I’m the interviewer, and I can confirm that’s true
- LMAO
- Congrats, congrats
- Job congrats, congrats
It was a quick change of topic in the flow of casual conversation, but Luccia, who had spent a long time getting her first chicken dinner, couldn’t forget that first video.
