My Japanese Childhood Friend Is Way Too Seductive
I never thought I'd say this, but having a childhood friend who's both ridiculously pretty and completely clueless about it is honestly a huge pain.
Like, a serious, heart-pounding, sleep-losing kind of pain.
Her name is Ayaka. We've known each other since we were in diapers—our families lived right next door in the same apartment complex back when we were kids. Her dad was a salaryman who got transferred to Korea for work, so they moved in when I was four. From that day on, she was basically glued to my side.
Even after her family moved back to Japan when we were in middle school, we kept in touch. And now, here we are in our second year of high school, and she's back in Seoul. Her dad's company sent him over again, and this time it looks like they'll be staying for good.
Which should be great news. Really. Except for one tiny problem.
Ayaka has zero awareness of how dangerously attractive she is.
She'll lean in way too close when she's talking to me, her soft breath brushing against my ear. Or she'll absentmindedly tug on the hem of her uniform skirt while pouting at me with those big, sparkling eyes. Sometimes she'll hug my arm without thinking twice, pressing her chest against me like it's the most natural thing in the world.
And every single time, my brain short-circuits.
Damn it, Ayaka. Do you have any idea what you're doing to me?
Today was no different. We were supposed to be studying together at my place after school. Or at least, that was the plan. But the moment she walked through the door, I knew I was in trouble.
"Wooju~ I'm here!"
Her voice was sweet and melodic, carrying that faint Japanese accent that always made my heart skip a beat. She kicked off her shoes in the entryway and padded straight into my room like she owned the place. Which, honestly, she kind of did. This room had been our secret base since we were kids.
I looked up from my desk and immediately regretted it.
She was still in her school uniform—the crisp white blouse slightly untucked, the pleated skirt riding just a little too high on her thighs from the walk over. Her long black hair was tied in a loose ponytail, a few strands framing her face. Those delicate features that looked like they belonged in a painting were flushed slightly pink from the warm spring air outside.
And she was smiling at me. That smile. The one that made me forget how to breathe.
"You're late," I said, trying to sound casual. My voice came out a little rougher than I intended.
"Sorry, sorry! The teacher kept me after class to talk about the exchange program." She flopped down on my bed without hesitation, rolling onto her stomach and kicking her feet in the air. The movement made her skirt hike up even more. I quickly looked away, pretending to be very interested in my math textbook.
"Exchange program?"
"Mhm. They're thinking of doing a student exchange with a school in Busan. But I told them I'm not interested. I don't want to leave Seoul. I don't want to leave you."
She said it so naturally, like she was commenting on the weather. My pencil snapped in half.
"Wooju? Are you okay?"
She tilted her head, looking up at me with genuine concern. Her lips were slightly parted, glossy and pink. I could see the delicate curve of her neck, the way her blouse strained just a little against her chest as she propped herself up on her elbows.
This girl is going to be the death of me.
"I'm fine," I muttered, reaching for another pencil. "Just... focused on studying."
She crawled closer across the bed until she was right beside my chair. Too close. Her scent—something soft and floral, like cherry blossoms—wrapped around me.
"You're always so serious about school. It's cute." She rested her chin on my desk, looking up at me through her lashes. "But you know what? I think you'd look even cuter if you smiled more."
Her finger reached out and poked my cheek. Just a light touch, but it sent electricity racing across my skin.
"Ayaka..." My voice came out warningly.
"Hmm?" She blinked innocently. No idea. Absolutely no idea what she was doing.
I swallowed hard. "Personal space. Remember that concept?"
She giggled—that bright, bell-like sound that always made my chest feel too tight. "But we've always been like this. Since we were little. Why would it be different now?"
Because we're not little anymore. Because you're beautiful and I'm just a guy with way too much imagination. Because every time you touch me, I have to fight the urge to pull you into my lap and—
I shut that thought down fast.
"Things change," I said instead, keeping my tone light. "We're in high school now. People might get the wrong idea."
Her expression shifted. For a moment, something flickered in her eyes—something that looked almost like... possessiveness? But it was gone before I could be sure.
"Wrong idea?" She sat up properly now, knees tucked under her on the bed. Her hands clasped together in her lap. "What kind of wrong idea?"
Her voice had gone soft. Too soft. The kind of soft that made me want to tell her every single filthy thought I'd ever had about her.
I cleared my throat. "Never mind. Let's just study, okay?"
She didn't move. Instead, she leaned forward again, close enough that I could count the tiny freckles across her nose.
"Wooju."
"Yeah?"
"Do you... not like it when I get close to you anymore?"
The vulnerability in her voice nearly broke me. Her eyes were wide, shimmering with what looked dangerously like unshed tears. Her lower lip trembled just slightly.
Damn it. She's weaponizing her cuteness again.
"That's not it," I said quickly. "It's just—"
"Then it's okay, right?" She brightened instantly, like the sun coming out after rain. Before I could protest, she had already wrapped her arms around my waist from the side, pressing her cheek against my shoulder. "I missed you today. Even though we saw each other at lunch."
Her body was warm. Soft. Way too soft.
I froze, every muscle locked in place. If I moved even an inch, I was going to do something stupid. Something that would cross every line we'd carefully maintained for years.
"Ayaka," I said, my voice low. "You're killing me here."
She pulled back just enough to look at me, confusion written all over her pretty face. "What do you mean?"
I stared at her. At those innocent eyes. At the way her hair had fallen messily around her shoulders. At her slightly parted lips that looked like they were waiting for something.
And I realized something with startling clarity.
One day, I wasn't going to be able to hold back anymore.
One day, I was going to tell her exactly what she did to me. Exactly how much I wanted her. How much I'd always wanted her.
But today wasn't that day.
Instead, I just sighed and gently pried her arms off me, ignoring the way she pouted.
"Let's study," I said firmly. "Before I fail every class because of you."
She laughed again, bright and carefree, completely unaware of the storm she'd stirred up inside me.
"Okay, okay. But after we finish this chapter, can we watch that new anime together? The one with the childhood friends who end up dating?"
I groaned. Of course she'd pick that one.
"Sure," I said, already knowing I was doomed.
Because no matter how much she teased me without realizing it, no matter how many times she pushed me right to the edge of my sanity...
She was still my Ayaka.
My beautiful, seductive, completely oblivious Japanese childhood friend.
And honestly?
I wouldn't have her any other way.
