A Long-Awaited Ludio
Among VTuber fans, the VTuber known as Kuroa Lulu was famous as “the VTuber with the garbage physicals.”
Plenty of VTubers had poor physicals, though. So why was Lulu the one who earned that particular reputation?
Because among all those garbage-physical VTubers, Lulu was the one who especially loved games.
Ah, of course her impact—on a whole different level from anyone else—played a part, but that was secondary. The real reason sat in Lulu’s pure love of games.
And for a Lulu like that, today’s stream was actually special.
“Today~ for the first time in a while~ it’s radio~”
Because Lulu had switched on a radio stream.
In a way, this almost felt like the main event for VTubers. Leaving the model on and just talking with viewers—that was basic VTuber literacy, and also the format that let them stream the longest.
Thanks to that, most VTubers ran a radio stream about once a week. It was advantageous for broadcasting in every way.
Lulu, though, did radio at most once a month, and usually only once every two months.
Which meant the people who wanted to hear that sweet, adorable voice of hers actually counted down the days for radio streams more than anything else.
Radio streams—not the game streams where they got to savor Lulu’s absurd impact.
Naturally I liked either. I was a true Lulu-dan, after all.
I’d swallowed a red pill that even a true Lulu-dan would find hard to handle, but that was fine. I could now completely separate the human Im Lua from the VTuber Kuroa Lulu.
I’d grown one step further as a person. Or not.
“Right, everyone. Have you been watching baseball lately?”
The first topic that came up was surprisingly not games, but baseball.
The reason baseball came up was a post on Lulu’s official café, “Lulu Poro-dan,” that she was looking at right then.
It was a post about the postseason results, and while reading it Lulu started talking baseball.
“Does our Lulu-dan like baseball a lot?”
Opinions among the viewers seemed to split a little.
Still, the majority clearly liked baseball, so Lulu started talking about it without much hesitation.
“Everyone, want to guess which team I’m a fan of?”
All sorts of baseball teams came up, but only a handful of people got it right.
Couldn’t be helped. The team Lulu liked… the team Lua liked, and the one I liked, was currently the perennial last-place team in Korean baseball.
“Bzzzt~ The answer is the Hanul Devils~”
“Everyone quiet! Hanul made the finals four years in a row back in the day, okay?!”
“Shiiii… Nooo! I didn’t buy the top! They’ve never even won a championship so how can it be the top!!!”
Lulu’s nuclear-level shouting only made the viewers laugh harder.
How did she manage to keep that impact even on a radio stream? At this point Lulu’s talent was just ridiculous.
Meanwhile I felt a little sad too.
In their heyday the Hanul Devils reached the finals like it was nothing, only to get stopped by other teams every single time and never take the title.
That history was a real sore spot for the fans who rooted for them, so watching it become a punchline hurt.
Sure enough, Lulu put on an angry face and immediately launched into a rant.
“Everyone, listen carefully. Next year we’re winning. We’re taking the postseason championship, got it?”
The viewers absolutely refused to believe her. The only ones agreeing with Lulu were the brainless Lulu cheer squad and the Hanul Devils fans like Lulu and me.
I was a Hanul Devils fan myself, so I was on the side agreeing with her.
Honestly, if I hadn’t been a Hanul Devils fan I never would’ve agreed with Lulu’s take.
Sensing the baseball talk was getting a bit too intense, Lulu moved straight on to the next post.
The next post was a video—simply put, just a cat video.
A pretty famous one: a tiny cat with ridiculously short legs carrying her even tinier kitten in her mouth as she went to eat… that kind of cat video.
“Waaaaaah… so cuuuuuute….”
But that video wasn’t just an ordinary cat video.
Right after it another video popped up, and this time it was a Malamute.
Yeah, those sled-dog Malamutes.
Of course this Malamute video wasn’t ordinary either.
It was a chubby-legged, tiny, impossibly cute baby Malamute video.
The baby Malamute was casually trying to climb stairs when its legs proved too short and it tumbled a full roll—then still grinned goofily, wobbled around, and got back up.
“Whatwhatwhatwhat~ so cuuuute~ kyaaaaaaah~!”
Lulu adored these animals to the point her character cracked a little, and honestly I thought they were ridiculously cute too.
I wasn’t the type who went looking for animal videos. I didn’t even like animals that much to begin with.
But those clips felt like they might gently shake my preferences.
If I could raise an animal like that, maybe keeping one wouldn’t be so bad.
Dogs and cats—an ancient rivalry.
Which one was cuter, which animal made the more adorable, lovable pet.
For the record I was Team Cat. Cats were a little cuter than dogs to me.
Meanwhile Lulu thought hard for a while, then finally reached a decision.
“…I like rabbits. Boing-boing~”
A completely out-of-left-field answer.
Question marks flooded the chat, and Lulu proceeded to “perfectly” shut the viewers down.
“Everyone? Why are you all only debating dogs and cats? Rabbits are plenty cute too!”
Naturally that didn’t shut anyone down. If anything the viewers only burned hotter.
Lulu fought valiantly against the raging chat, but in the end she took a beating and moved on to the next café post.
“Shiii… I still like rabbits better than those two…”
Of course Lulu had a temper of her own, so she kept sulking to the very end.
For the record, I joined in bullying Lulu this time too.
How dare she compare cats—not even to dogs—to rabbits?
And claim those two were worse than rabbits?
Unforgivable. I didn’t even like animals that much, but it was still unforgivable. Anyway, that was that.
After that, Lulu enjoyed a truly peaceful radio stream for the first time in ages.
Of course “peaceful” was only peaceful by her usual standards. Compared to other VTubers’ radio streams it was still a war zone.
If May had watched this stream she might have said, “This isn’t a radio stream,” that’s how noisy and chaotic it was.
“Somehow it feels different from May unnie’s streams….”
Someone had dropped a brutal truth bomb, so Lulu fired back.
“Facts banned! Lulu can do quiet, chill streams too, you know!”
She said that, but nobody paid her any attention.
I snickered my way through the rest of Lulu’s stream, and before long it came to an end.
Just like last time, the moment the stream ended I immediately messaged Lulu… Lua.
Oh, it was definitely cute.
But dogs or cats were still better.
…Did I?
……Yeah, I kind of did, actually.
Getting that “hmph” from Lua made me feel like I’d done something wrong.
Even though I hadn’t done anything wrong at all.
…Should I buy her a drink tomorrow or something?
