Chapter 5

Chapter Title: Day Off
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Broadcasters have regular off-days.
I personally consider these off-days incredibly important.
There are two main reasons why. The first is for recharging.
No matter what you do, if you're grinding at it every single day, burnout will eventually hit.
Even I used to get it once every one or two months before I became a Clipper...
But if you take a break here and there in between, that burnout really doesn't come around as often. Sometimes it stops coming altogether.
That's why, for managing your condition and preventing burnout, off-days are absolutely crucial.
The other reason is for content planning.
Broadcasters post their weekly schedules on their SNS or communities.
And the time they decide what to do? That's none other than their off-day.
It's not just about resting—off-days help you lay out your plans for the week ahead.
Of course, in the case of Lulu from Sweet Nightmare, the company probably handles the scheduling...
Anyway, that's why I think Lulu and Sweet Nightmare's approach of taking two off-days a week is spot-on and ideal.
Plus, those off-days double as my rest days, so I look forward to them too.
Videos keep getting uploaded, of course. But even that upload process becomes a freebie.
How do I do it? Simple.
I just stitch together all the short clips I made over the past week into one long-form video.
Basically, a clip compilation.
Even though shorts have massive power these days, nothing can quite match the appeal of a long-form video.
Shorts feel like watching fragmented snippets, while long-form lets you craft a full narrative or control the structure over a long stretch however you want.
In my case, I even group the shorts by their original broadcast dates and weave narratives from them.
Not forced ones, though—forcing a story is just cringeworthy.
It's more like embedding the narrative of that day's broadcast for anyone who's watched all of Lulu's streams. Easy enough to grasp.
At the end of the day, it's still just pasting pre-made shorts together.
Anyway, off-days are fantastic.
For broadcasters, it's recharging plus prep for next week. For me as a Clipper, it's a full day of easy gains.
The moment I got home, I pieced together the shorts into a long-form compilation, uploaded it to my NewTube channel, and called out to my family.
"Mom~ Dad~ Bro~ I'll buy dinner today~"
Because I was treating them to a meal.
This is exactly why I can slack off on studying and just watch VTuber streams at home without anyone batting an eye.
It's not just about hoarding the money I earn—it's about spending it on family like this every now and then.
That alone boosts their trust and faith in me.
This is a genuine life hack.
Twice a month, one pizza pie—boom, freedom and trust unlocked. Can't beat it.
I headed to school, greeted by a refreshing morning breeze.
Thanks to Lulu's off-day, I'd gotten a solid night's sleep—pure bliss.
Today, I probably wouldn't get any warnings from Im Rua, or those mint candies from her either.
Somehow, that made me feel good... but also a little empty.
Good because I wouldn't get tangled up with the model student Im Rua anymore, but weird because I'd started thinking we were getting a bit closer, and now she probably wouldn't talk to me again.
Not that I'd pretend to be sleepy on purpose. I'm not that desperate for attention.
I arrived at the classroom, unpacked my bag, and casually glanced to the side.
Im Rua was there, studying away as nonchalantly as ever.
Truly impressive. Beyond impressive—downright awe-inspiring.
Our school's not a dump academically. I was scraping top ten in my middle school class without trying, and now I'm dead last here, so yeah, it's a solid school.
That aside, Im Rua had really caught my eye these past few days. She's on another level.
Coming in every morning and grinding like this? Incredible.
I respect it, even admire it, but that doesn't mean I want to get buddy-buddy with her again.
Our worlds are just too different. That much hasn't changed.
With those thoughts, I prepped for first period.
Probability and Statistics. Honestly, I don't get it at all. Not even a little.
Might as well nap... I started to lean over...
"...You seemed wide awake today, but I guess not."
Im Rua—who'd been buried in her books until just now—was looking right at me.
Caught off guard, I sat back up and mumbled back.
"...I'm not really sleepy today."
"Then why try to sleep?"
"Prob and stats... I just don't get it."
"...I see."
She nodded and turned away.
Then she suddenly shoved her textbook in my face. There was a dice diagram, and she asked while pointing at it.
"Seo Jinwoo, how many faces on a die?"
It was such a basic question that I answered instantly.
"Six, right?"
"Yeah, six. So, if you roll it, probability of a one?"
"...One in six?"
"Right. What about rolling twice, and at least one is a one?"
Twice...?
Uh... umm...
After I pondered for a bit, Im Rua broke it down simpler.
"You just need exactly one one out of the two rolls."
"Oh... yeah...?"
"So the other roll doesn't have to be a one."
"...Right."
"Okay, think of it like this: out of your first roll and second roll, just the cases where a one shows up at least once."
First roll one, then second anything from one to six—no problem. Or second roll one, first anything.
So, adding it all up...
"...Eleven?"
"Smart cookie. Yep, eleven cases where you get a one. Now, total possible outcomes for two rolls?"
How many...?
First roll one through six, second the same...
"...Thirty-six."
"Exactly. So the probability of at least one one in two rolls?"
"...Eleven thirty-sixths."
*clap clap clap clap*
Im Rua clapped as she looked at me.
"Right! Perfect answer. Your brain's still sharp as ever."
Her praise made me squirm a bit, so I clamped my mouth shut.
Im Rua eyed me, then hit me with a question I could never truly relate to.
"Probability and stats isn't so bad, huh?"
"Only 'cause you explained it."
"Nah, plenty of kids don't even get this."
No way. With her breaking it down step by step like that, even a middle schooler could follow.
"If you don't get something, ask me anytime. I'll help. Got it?"
Her cute, soft voice caught me off guard, and I nodded without thinking.
Two things hit me while getting her help.
First: if our math teacher had a voice as clear and adorable as Im Rua's, maybe I'd actually bother with math.
Second: her voice is seriously captivating. So much so that it pulls your focus automatically and makes you nod along without realizing it.
Scary stuff, Im Rua.
I was thinking that when...
"Oh yeah, Jinwoo."
She called me again.
"...Yeah?"
"You been playing any games lately?"
Lately...? If she puts it like that...
"A little."
Yeah, a little. Barely at all.
Lately, making clips from Lulu's streams has been way more fun.
"Got it. So... know any hot games right now?"
"Hot games? Like mobile?"
"Mobile's fine, PC works too."
Mobile or PC... She should focus on studying, so mobile game's safer.
I recommended a mobile game that popped into my head.
Great story, fair monetization—super popular one called Margo Company.
"Ah... Thanks for the rec."
She nodded gratefully.
Only one problem...
That game's rated for adults—not for sexual content, but gore.
But telling her straight-up "Hey, that's an adults-only game, skip it" now would be spilling milk that's already spilled.
I could already picture how she'd look at me the second she heard "adults-only."
All I could do was hope she wouldn't actually play it.
