Team Valkyrie ① Losing My S-Rank Hero Older Sister and Childhood Friend - 1
In the year 20XX, Earth faced a crisis.
Dimensional anomalies known as Gates began occurring across the globe, unleashing monsters from another world that attacked without mercy. These beasts, driven solely by destructive instinct, slaughtered people indiscriminately, demolished buildings, and wrought devastation on an unimaginable scale.
Governments deployed their militaries to hunt the monsters, but conventional forces struggled against the endless hordes pouring from the Gates.
Yet, as the monsters appeared, so too did individuals blessed with superhuman abilities. These ability users wielded their powers against the invaders, earning the title of Heroes.
No one knew why monsters and Heroes had suddenly emerged. Some scientists speculated it was the universe's way of restoring balance, but that was mere conjecture.
Regardless, Earth had entered a new era of clashes between monsters and Heroes...
Wheeeeeeeeennn!
A grating alarm blared through the streets. At the same time, evacuation alerts flooded people's phones.
Pedestrians on the sidewalks hurried into nearby shops or underground shelters. Those at home barricaded themselves in panic rooms or other safe havens.
It was a Gate emergence warning.
Such alarms had become routine, so the public evacuated with practiced efficiency, minimal panic. Sure, a few folks stumbled about in confusion, but police and soldiers in combat gear directed them swiftly to safety.
Scientists hadn't been idle during the crisis. They'd developed sensors to detect Spacetime Shocks—the dimensional tremors that preceded Gates—allowing predictions of a Gate's scale and potential damage.
In urban areas especially, early warnings gave civilians time to flee, enabling rapid response protocols.
Thud thud thud thud!
Quick-response units mobilized first. The roar of helicopter rotors filled the sky as squadrons hovered in formation.
Rumble... Crackle-zap!
Then the Spacetime Shock hit. Space warped violently, birthing a massive Gate in the city's heart. Nearby buildings shook like in an earthquake, fierce winds and lightning raging around the rift.
BOOM!
As the tremors subsided, hordes of monsters surged forth. Goblins half-human-sized, Hell Hounds the size of large dogs, towering Ogre humanoids several meters tall, and colossal behemoths rivaling skyscrapers—every variety imaginable.
Kaboom!
Helicopters unleashed rockets and autocannon fire in a preemptive barrage, aiming to thin the herd before it spread. But the assault barely scratched the small fry; larger monsters shrugged it off.
Flames from the impacts lit the way as more beasts poured out relentlessly.
"GRRAAAAAH!"
KABOOM!
A quadrupedal mega-beast resembling a prehistoric dinosaur—Behemoth—unleashed a searing beam from its maw. The superheated ray sliced the sky, obliterating the attack helicopters in an instant.
Combat Drone Unit! Destroyed!
No lives lost despite the downing—drones were standard in monster fights to minimize human casualties. With endless foes, armies churned out cheap drone weaponry to bear the brunt.
These attack choppers were built for one salvo before inevitable counterfire.
Behemoth! Colossal Monster-Class!
The situation grew dire. Recon drones spotted the ancient mega-monster: Behemoth, skyscraper-sized, a walking nightmare beyond conventional arms.
S-Something like that... No way we can take it down with standard weapons.
Command posts despaired. They'd braced for a big Spacetime Shock, but Behemoth was unforeseen. This invincible juggernaut laughed off artillery.
Team Valkyrie! Arrived on the battlefield!
Ooh! The Heroes are here!
Despair flipped to hope. A Hero team had arrived—like champions descending to save the world.
And it was none other than Team Valkyrie, Korea's premier powerhouse.
...
"Sis! It's a Behemoth! You gonna be okay?!"
"I told you to call me Leader during operations."
"S-Sorry. Leader! Hostile monster: Behemoth!"
Reporting to Team Valkyrie's leader, the Sword Princess Yoo Miyeon, was her younger brother and teammate, Yoo Jinseok.
Jinseok used remote surveillance gear to scout the monsters, relaying intel to Miyeon. Even to her own brother, she responded with icy detachment.
"Anything besides the Behemoth?"
"Ogres! Hell Hounds! Goblins! Numbers...!"
"Nothing worth noting. Don't bother counting."
Miyeon dismissed everything but the Behemoth as trivial.
Facing the colossal horror without flinching, she remained cool and composed. It was only natural—Sword Princess Yoo Miyeon was one of the world's rare S-rank Heroes.
"Leader! It's a Behemoth—you sure you're good?!"
"Cut the unnecessary chatter. You're distracting."
Jinseok fretted over the comms, but Miyeon adjusted her earpiece and shut him down coldly. She brushed back her long, flowing black hair as if the monsters were less pressing than her grooming.
Hot pants baring her long legs, a tight white tee hugging her slender, athletic frame, sneakers on her feet—she looked like she was just heading out casually. But drawing her sword unleashed an aura of overwhelming menace.
"Charging now. Cover fire, please."
"Got it!"
Miyeon issued orders via comms and bolted bare-handed toward the Behemoth. Her speed blurred beyond human sight; her leaps bordered on flight. A true S-rank spectacle.
"Cover fire... does she even need it...?"
Jinseok watched her confident charge with doubt, but prepped anyway. Unlike Miyeon's casual wear, he donned heavy reinforced armor and hefted a massive heavy machine gun that resembled an autocannon.
Clack! Clack!
The gun was too bulky for normal handling, but Jinseok propped it effortlessly on shattered concrete, assuming firing stance. He loaded belts of ammo from his back.
A B-rank Hero far below Miyeon, Jinseok's Physical Enhancement let him wield such gear. Average build hid monstrous strength rivaling machinery.
"Ready. Firing!"
Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat!
Heavy rounds erupted in a stream, armor-piercing high-explosives that punched through mid-sized Ogres, detonating inside for lethal kills—anti-monster specials.
