32. My Buff is a Drug
32. My Buff is a Drug
"......."
The moment the door opened, my gaze locked onto her.
Eyes that seemed to hold no emotion whatsoever.
Even staring straight back at them, that old killing intent was gone now.
What seeped from those parched, bloodshot pupils was thick despair.......
The eyes of someone who had given up on life entirely.
'Just looking at it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.'
It wasn't just her eyes. She was broken as a human being.
Hollowed cheeks showing how long it'd been since she'd touched food.
Dark circles so deep they looked ready to drip down her face if left alone.
Clear marks on her neck from a suicide attempt.
The word "deathly" genuinely fit her face.
Geum Na-rin silently watched Hye-yong's movements.
Hye-yong carefully pulled a chair over and sat beside her bed.
"Senior, hello. I'm a first-year in the High Division, name's Choi Hye-yong."
Her total lack of reaction seemed to say, "And?"
"I came because I want to help you."
That, at least, she couldn't help reacting to.
"Help...... me?"
"You've been experiencing something strange lately, haven't you? Being attacked by an unknown assailant, or something like that."
Shrrrk!
The sound of blankets being roughly thrown aside.
Geum Na-rin twisted her body and clamped her hands around Hye-yong's forearms.
Then she brought her face close, her whole body trembling violently.
"You, you...... you know about it? This strange dream......!"
Point-blank range.
The emotion held in Na-rin's eyes bored into Hye-yong's brain.
It wasn't some kind of psychic power.
Anyone looking into Na-rin's eyes up close right now would understand.
That she was writhing in absolute terror.
"Yes, I know. I came here to kill the thing that's tormenting you, Senior."
Na-rin's eyes trembled hard once, and then tears began to fall.
"No one listened. It didn't matter who I told, it was always the same. They listened like they had no idea what I was even talking about."
She hung her head low and kept shaking it as she spoke.
"But it's not that they ignored me...... they can't even 「perceive」 the things I say. No matter how much I talk, by the next day they forget I said anything at all."
A voice that sounded scraped out by sheer effort.
"I thought maybe I'd landed in hell......."
Na-rin lifted her head and pleaded, face streaked with tears.
"You'll...... kill him? The man! You'll kill him?"
「A man」
The Virus tormenting Na-rin apparently took human form.
This was the part where I wanted to heroically say, "Of course I would." But Hye-yong was momentarily overwhelmed, infected by the sheer terror radiating from Geum Na-rin, and he briefly lost himself.
Deciding he needed to hear more first, he spoke up.
"First, you need to tell me. What exactly have you been going through?"
Na-rin pulled away from Hye-yong, turned back around, placed her fists on her knees, and began to explain.
"A dream...... when I fall asleep, I'm in a strange room. I'm tied down to something like an operating table, and some man comes up to me, spouts strange nonsense, and injects me with something...... after that injection, my mind goes completely clear...... and no matter how much it hurts, no matter how much I suffer, I can't wake up from the dream."
Na-rin shed tears.
"The man...... says he's going to examine every part of me. My fingernails get pulled out and the insides are dissected, my skin gets peeled off and he inspects the flesh, and I can't do anything. I can't even resist...... I just lie there...... with my mind perfectly clear......."
And then she shuddered.
"Until the man says he's done, I can never wake up from the dream......."
Partway through, I found myself thinking I couldn't take any more of this.
'Ugh...... that's really fucking horrifying.'
This one was a far nastier bastard than the last.
I was starting to wonder if every Virus was just a manifestation of some insane psychopath.
'How the hell am I supposed to help with this?'
First, it seemed like I'd need to enter Geum Na-rin's Inner World.
Things had felt just as hopeless at the start with Na Hee-yeon.
If I went inside and assessed the situation, maybe a way forward would present itself.
I cast an Inner World Intrusion Buff on Geum Na-rin.
'She said the man only appears in her dreams. To see the Inner World, Geum Na-rin needs to fall asleep first.'
I explained the situation to Na-rin.
"When you fall asleep, that bastard appears, right?"
"Y-yes......."
"Then you need to fall asleep. That's the only way I can help you."
Flinch!
At those words, Geum Na-rin jolted and went rigid.
Then she immediately started clawing at her forearms with both hands, trembling like a madwoman.
Shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver
"No......."
Shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver
"I've, I've already shown him everything......."
Shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver
"Shown him everything......."
Shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver
"The only thing left is my heart, that man, that man is going to split my heart open and observe it!"
Shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver-shiver
"I can't fall asleep. I can't fall asleep. I'm going to...... have my heart torn to shreds and die."
Her eyes had looked so bloodshot and dried-out. It turned out she'd apparently been awake for days already.
Honestly, if that weren't the case, her dark circles couldn't possibly have gotten that deep.
'Here's where I've got to tell her to relax!'
Geum Na-rin's violent reaction was scary, but if I got scared and hesitated here, Na-rin's mind would be completely destroyed.
I had to make her understand she had someone on her side.
"I'll kill that man. That's exactly why I came here."
"Kill...... you can kill him?"
"Trust me and try falling asleep. Here......."
I cast the Comfortable Feeling blessing on Geum Na-rin.
Her eyes, which had been trembling as though gripped by paranoia, slowly began to droop shut.
"Ah...... but I shouldn't......."
Because she'd already been under extreme stress and fatigue, the slightest feeling of relief was enough to make Geum Na-rin drift off easily.
'It's a little scary, but I've got to go.'
I steeled myself.
Hye-yong also cast the Inner World Intrusion Buff on himself and departed for Geum Na-rin's Inner World.
Darkness.
I couldn't see a thing.
But within this darkness, my own body stood out clearly.
It was a truly bizarre space.
'Feels like I'm seeing something, but.......'
As I walked, something pale came into view.
Looking closer, it had a faint yellow tint.
Moving closer to confirm, I could see clearly what it was.
A blonde woman in a smartly tailored suit stood before Hye-yong.
As Hye-yong looked at her, the blonde woman smiled an unreadable smile.
Just as I was about to ask who she was.
The woman hopped up lightly, raised both hands, and......
"Bwee!"

Beaming brightly, she formed a V with the index and middle fingers of both hands and struck a double peace pose.
"......."
When Hye-yong just clamped his mouth shut with a shocked expression, like he'd glimpsed the truth of the universe, the woman cocked her head.
"Huh? I thought you'd like it...... Do I need to do this one too?"
She struck the double peace pose again, but this time rolled her eyes back and stuck her tongue out.
When there was still no reaction, she mumbled with a sullen face.
"You don't seem to like it much. There are tons of pictures like this on the Creator's computer, so I thought you were a fan."
At that point, Hye-yong had a pretty good idea who the woman in the suit before him was.
Her features looked exactly like the blonde female character that kept appearing as an emoji, but stretched out and manifested in reality.
Of course, he was very much a fan of ahegao double peace, but that wasn't what mattered right now.
"You...... what the hell are you doing here?"
Hye-yong tried to say her name out loud.
"Bwit, Bwuit. Gwi, gwit?"
Naturally, it didn't go well.
"Ah, you're trying to say it out loud. It's just that the characters got broken because of the Virus......."
"Then what am I supposed to call you?"
"My name is―."
BWEE-EE-EE-EE-EE!
"―that."
"Huh...... I missed that, what'd you say?"
BWEE-EE-EE-EE-EE-EE!
"That's what it is."
"It feels like your name is getting filtered out of my ears?"
"Oh, really? That's weird."
BWEE-EE-EE-EE!
BWEE-EE-EE-EE-EE!
BWEE-EE-EE-EE-EE-EE!
"Stop, stop it! My ears hurt."
"It seems it's set up so I can't actually speak my own name, I guess? Well then......."
Bwitgwitgak pointed a finger at her own face.
"Creator, you give me my name."
"You want me to name you......?"
What was this, like naming some dog we were raising together?
Still, I did wonder what would be good.
"Then...... Mina?"
"Mina? What a pretty name. Is it the name of a character the Creator likes?"
"Yeah, she was my favorite when I was little. Come to think of it, you really do look like her."
There was a legendary educational comic, a legend among legends, that Hye-yong had absolutely loved when he was young: Fantasy English Wars.
The renowned mage Mina from that series and the creator of this world, Bwitgwitgak, actually resembled each other quite a lot.
That is, when she kept her mouth shut and held a dignified air, of course.
"I love it! Mina, my name is Mina from now on!"
"Right...... Mina. So, why are you even here?"
"I just came by."
I figured there'd be a reason, but she just came by?
"So, like, 'I could come, so I came,' is that it?"
"Here I thought you came to help......."
"Thanks to you handling that Virus last time, I've become able to interfere just a little when it's an Inner World the Creator has entered."
"Huh? Then doesn't that mean you can help?"
"I can't exert any power in here...... but I could serve as a human shield, with the body of an ordinary woman with no abilities whatsoever?"
Wow. Truly useless.
Hye-yong thought that.
"Is that all?"
"What else?"
"This meeting we're having. You really got nothing? Like you came to give advice or something?"
"Nope......."
"Then take point. If there are any traps or anything, you'll be the one stepping on them."
"Yes! Boss!"
He really wanted to smack the back of her head, but since she looked like a character he liked and was cute, Hye-yong decided to let it slide.
"I think I see something?"
Walking on through the darkness with her, a room of some kind eventually appeared.
Amid debris like filthy cloth and shards of glass, something shaped like a human silhouette was visible.
The back of a man in a black coat that reached his ankles.
He was quite tall, looked to be about 190 centimeters.
'So that's the 「man」?'
Moving a bit closer, I could also see what looked like a dental operating table and, strapped to it, Geum Na-rin.
'A mask...... I can't see his face.'
The Masked Man was using a mouth gag to force Geum Na-rin's mouth open, pulling her tongue out with forceps, and bringing fingernail clippers up to it.
Geum Na-rin could do nothing but shed ceaseless tears as she watched her tongue meet the nail clippers.
A desperate, do-or-die situation!
Hye-yong immediately gave Mina a shove from behind.
"Hup."
Sctch!
At the sound of Mina's footstep, the Masked Man stopped what he was doing and turned around.
Watching him, Mina greeted him with a terrified expression.
"Ah...... h-hello?"
"What are you? How did you get in here?"
"I'm, uh, Mina."
Then she suddenly burst out frantically yelling.
"I came to kill you! You bad Virus!"
"......."
The Masked Man walked up, clamped one hand around Mina's throat, and hoisted her up.
"Hyeek! Hwae Aeng! Uwek! Kghk!"
Watching her thrash and choke as she was lifted was pretty pitiful, but offering herself up as a human shield had been Mina's own idea.
While she played the sacrifice, Hye-yong decided to prepare something else.
First, he quietly approached Geum Na-rin and started undoing her restraints.
"Y-you......."
"Shh, shh. Find an exit and run."
Geum Na-rin nodded.
In the meantime, Hye-yong decided to make a move on the man, who was fully occupied with handling Mina.
'A scalpel.......'
There was a scalpel the size of a short dagger.
If I cast a buff and slashed his back wide open, seemed like I could do some pretty serious damage.
[ Slashing ]
Scalpel Proficiency +3 Levels
Strength Stat +10 Levels
Slash Attack Enhancement +10 Levels
Hye-yong cast the buff on himself, took a small breath, and charged at the man's back.
Shrrrraaak!
The scalpel, boosted by Slash Attack Enhancement Level 15, was swung with Hye-yong's strength, further increased by the Strength +10 Levels buff.
'One more!'
I had to land as many attacks as I could while I had the chance.
Shhrraak! Shhrraak! Shhrraak!
Hye-yong slashed the man's back as if carving it up.
Crrrunch!
"Gkkhrk!"
The man snapped Mina's neck just like that, hurled her backward, then collapsed to his knees.
Mina, flung back with her neck broken and slammed into the floor, raised her right thumb with a perfectly deathbound expression on her face and mouthed something.
F
I
GHT-ING
Then she went completely limp and stopped moving entirely.
'Does that girl not have a single shred of tension awareness?'
Grumbling internally, Hye-yong readjusted his grip on the scalpel.
To finish him off while I had the upper hand.
"!"
But something was wrong.
The man's back, which should have been carved to ribbons, was healing up completely.
The man turned his head back and glared at Hye-yong.
"And just what are you?"
What the hell was I supposed to do if he recovered from damage that quickly?
I had no clue how to handle this.
Was there some special strategy I was missing?
"Th-there's an exit!"
Geum Na-rin's shout rang out at that moment.
A single thought flashed into Hye-yong's mind.
Let's just bail for now!
Hye-yong threw the scalpel away and ran for the door Geum Na-rin had opened.
"You can't escape!"
The man stretched out his right arm and chased after him, but Hye-yong had reacted first and was a little faster.
Grabbing Geum Na-rin's hand, Hye-yong threw himself toward the door.
