34. Why won't this pull?
34. Why won't this pull?
Night had fallen. Funnily enough, even though there were two martial arts masters here, I was the one who woke up first. I woke Asagi up first, and together with Asagi, I woke Ranma, who was sprawled out under the Oak Tree. I had prepared two extra bows, aside from the one Asagi had snatched from me. We were short on bows, so mine and Ranma's bows only had about half their durability left, but it didn't seem like we'd run out of durability to use them all night. The important thing was whether I could pull them or not, but since Asagi and Ranma could pull them very easily, it didn't really matter.
I was just a tag-along.
I figured I could just hold onto these bows and pass them over once Asagi or Ranma's bows ran out of durability.
Because I didn't have the strength to pull the bow myself.
Shit.
"You're both ready, right?"
"Yeah. It's already hell over there."
"I waited until the sun had completely set to wake up and prepare. That's why it spawned that much in that time."
"Isn't it dangerous?"
Asagi asked, looking at me. A massive number of monsters were swarming all over the [Monster Farm mk.2] I had built. It felt like a frying pan stir-frying grasshoppers. I couldn't help but frown. They were spawning too much. The spawn rate was higher than the Minecraft I used to play on my computer. This couldn't be some kind of reality correction, could it? If it were reality correction, shouldn't fewer of them appear?
"It's not dangerous. As long as we gauge the distance well, there shouldn't be any big problems."
I answered with certainty. There were already 3 Endermen walking around in the [Monster Farm]. There was no way to catch Endermen in this [Monster Farm] right now. Even if they fell into the trap, they would be able to teleport. I didn't know the mechanism of their teleportation. I just knew they popped up randomly anywhere. I snuck a look at my level. I was already over level 10 thanks to the experience points I gained from the [Corridor-style Monster Farm]. However, I hadn't gotten stronger, nor had my face become any more handsome. I hadn't been able to check my stamina, but it was probably the same. Originally, levels in Minecraft were just used as materials for enchantments, not a concept where the character gets stronger. It seemed to be the same here. Even so, when I first leveled up, I felt like I had gotten stronger in a vague, intuitive way, but that was just an illusion too.
The only way for me to get stronger here is to exercise.
Fucking hell.
"When do we start?"
As I stared blankly at the monsters in the [Monster Farm], Asagi asked with a frown. Ranma, who had been standing next to me spacing out, seemed to be thinking the same thing. I nodded at Asagi's question. Hoping that the [Monster Farm] I designed would work properly, I made a request to Asagi.
"Just get the bows ready. I'll try to get them into the aggro range first."
"Got it. Hurry up and get over there."
Asagi gestured with her chin toward the bridge I had built. It was a gesture telling me to hurry up and go pull the monsters over. I felt a little sad, but since I was the one who could properly get the monsters' aggro, it was ultimately most certain that I go. It was clear that Asagi and Ranma were being recognized as Villagers, so Zombies and Skeletons would approach to attack Asagi and Ranma too, but Creepers and Spiders wouldn't. I could pull them all.
"I'm going."
First, I lifted all the [Trapdoor]s I had installed to make the trap look like a path, and crossed the bridge. Those [Trapdoor]s would fold when I crossed back over to Asagi-ssi's side. That way, the monsters rushing to kill me would fall into the trap.
I was anxious because the aggro range of Zombies was larger than other monsters. It meant that before I could even get into the aggro range of Skeletons, Spiders, or Creepers, the Zombies would find me first and approach me. It was obvious that they would all rush at me before I could even touch the aggro range of the other monsters. So, I had to sprint into the aggro range and then run away immediately.
Scared as hell.
But there was no helping it. If I didn't do this, we had no way to safely obtain spider webs. If we built our platform so that monsters could spawn on it, maybe the phenomenon of monsters spawning intensively in one place like now wouldn't happen, but then we would have to live with the anxiety of not knowing when a Creeper might explode behind my back. I couldn't accept that.
"Now!"
I kicked off the ground. I hadn't even run that far, but only the Zombies, excluding the Skeletons, Creepers, and Spiders, turned their heads toward me. They looked stupid in Minecraft, but these Zombie bastards, having received reality correction, looked so grotesque that I was terrified to the point of my knees shaking. Still, I had to move forward to make the [Bed]. The most important thing was to accurately catch the moment when the Skeleton closest to me turned its head toward me. If I failed to catch it and went in further, the Skeleton closest to me might shoot an arrow at me.
Since I couldn't dodge arrows, I had to assume I'd die the moment it shot.
Focusing, I ran six or seven more steps forward, and I saw the Skeleton right in front of me snap its head around to look at me. This was the limit. From here on, I had to run like hell.
"Shit!"
Starting with the Skeleton that first turned its head toward me, not all of them, but some Spiders and some Creepers also started following me, having recognized me. I quickly turned around and ran toward where Asagi was. Running away was faster. Maybe I hadn't been running at full speed when I went forward because I didn't want to go in. Or maybe I was displaying superhuman speed because I felt my life was threatened. I ran like crazy, passed the [Trapdoor]s, then turned my body and quickly folded the [Trapdoor]s. Then I rolled backward, descended the stairs a bit, and crouched down.
"Crouch!"
"Got it!"
At my words, Ranma and Asagi, who were waiting at the bottom of the stairs, also crouched down. I could hear the sound of bones clattering above the stairs, and the groaning sound of Zombies. There was a sound of something falling; it seemed they had successfully fallen into the trap. Now it was time for the Spiders to come down. Even if Spiders fall into a trap, they can crawl out on their own and track me. Since they weren't [Poison Spider]s, I wouldn't be poisoned if bitten, but if a spider the size of a Jindo dog chased after me, a normal person would faint. Same for me.
Skreeee!
A sound that couldn't be described in words rang out. It was the cry of a Spider. Minecraft Spiders make crying sounds too! Scared as hell!
"They're coming!"
"You stay back!"
"Yeah! You stay back! You're in the way!"
"Yes!"
At Ranma and Asagi's shouts, I quickly backed away. I wasn't a combatant. At least at times like this, it's better to be a docile sheep that listens well! Fighting, of all things. Fighting wasn't my genre.
There were a total of 4 Spiders that appeared at the top of the stairs. A good harvest from the start. If they all dropped spider webs, that would be 4. In an instant, I had acquired one-third of the amount needed to make one. If I did this a few more times, it didn't seem like it would take that long to get all the spider webs.
Right now... there was only one thing I could do!
Cheering!
"Play! Play! Our team! Win! Win! Our team!"
"Shut up!"
"Understood."
I shut my mouth immediately at Asagi's words. That was because Asagi's shout contained quite a lot, no, an immense amount of annoyance. At times like this, it's better for my well-being to just shut up. Asagi rushed toward the Spiders with the fast speed, like the teleportation she had shown before. I could see the [Wooden Sword] in her hand swinging at a speed so fast I couldn't even see how many times it swung.
With a sound like Pabababak!, I saw one Spider die and disappear without even being able to do anything. As expected, I should never mess with Asagi.
Since I leveled up this time, it seemed necessary to reshape Asagi's [Wooden Sword] into a form that suited her. The current [Longsword]-like shape probably wasn't a shape Asagi was that used to.
Since Asagi would use a katana, making a katana-shaped [Wooden Sword] would be best to bring out her combat power to the maximum.
"Haaah!"
Ranma was just strong as a human being. It was immense strength worthy of a protagonist in a comedy manga. When the strength he used to break this and that whenever he had a chance was unleashed on the Spiders, the Spider hit by Ranma's fist was literally torn limb from limb and exploded. It felt like One Punch Man, so if you only looked at destructive power, Ranma looked stronger than Asagi, who was holding a [Wooden Sword].
The 4 Spiders were dealt with in an instant. Whether it was bad luck or good luck, all but one dropped spider webs. 3 with the current ones. The one I originally had. So, I could acquire the spider webs for 2 beds if I collected 20 more.
The time taken so far was about 20 minutes. It didn't seem like I needed to pull an all-nighter; if a little more time passed, I would be able to collect all the spider webs I wanted. I quickly looted the spider webs and climbed back up the stairs to look at the [Monster Farm] where monsters were spawning. Zombies, Creepers, and Skeletons were swarming in the trap opened below. I felt anxious that if I didn't clear these out first, the trap might overflow due to reality correction and monsters might pop out.
"Hmm?"
"What is it?"
"How many Endermen were there earlier?"
"Isn't it 3?"
"There are only 2 now."
I told Asagi that. When I checked at first, there were 3 Endermen. But now I could only see 2. That meant one Enderman had teleported.
Where to?
"Asagi-ssi!"
"Is it behind us?"
"Yes! One Enderman teleported!"
I have to stop them from taking the [Dirt Block]s!
"Got it. Wait here."
As I spoke urgently, Asagi grabbed her [Wooden Sword] and rushed like an arrow toward the Oak Tree field where our [Dirt Block]s were. It seemed better for Ranma and me to stay put. Since it was just one Enderman, we could just do our own work.
"What do we do? Should we help Asagi-ssi?"
"No. Let's go break the legs of the monsters in the trap."
"Good!"
Ranma nodded at my suggestion. Now, breaking the legs of monsters with a [Wooden Sword] was Ranma's specialty.
