Owner of the Divine Sword (3)
“Yeah, 100 billion. And that's the bare minimum! You know how few Legendary-grade weapons have even hit the market? Do you have any idea what that's worth? It's not even close to the 10 billion you mentioned. And that's for an unenhanced one.”
“Whoa, I’m speechless……”
“We’ll have to check, but anything from Divine-grade up probably won't even need enhancing— the gap with Legendary will be that huge. Divine-grade stuff is one-of-a-kind in the entire world, so they balanced it with massive differences from lower tiers, factoring in how hard it is to enhance. You didn't know?”
He was right. Honestly, I had no clue. Unlike me, this guy had been in the top ranks from the PC version through to here, so he knew all the nitty-gritty details that only rankers shared. I'd only dipped my toes into Titan Age before quitting, so I often missed the fine print on later updates.
Anyway, chatting excitedly with Hyunjung like this, the maintenance ended before I knew it, and Tayen was back online.
We hope you enjoy your adventure.
My vision brightened in an instant, revealing Bernstein Castle's outer plaza packed with players who'd just logged in.
Stealth!
I quickly activated Stealth before anyone spotted me, then muted the flood of whispers pouring in. I headed to the inn inside the inner castle, rented a room, and finally checked the long-awaited divine sword's specs with trembling hands.

Summon Titan ‘Luitus(!)’: Currently sealed(!)
This item is blessed by the gods—will not break on enhancement failure until blessings are depleted. (Remaining blessings: 3)
This item is one-of-a-kind.
This item cannot be traded or sold.
The holy sword of the god of light, Luiton—one of the continent's 7 Divine Weapons.
"Endless terror to all adversaries, unending blessings to the countless followers of Luiton! Beneath the radiant glory of Rune Paytona, the forces of darkness shall wither like shadows before the sun."
—Gaira Empire's founding emperor, Zenon Gairux—
“Holy shit! This is insane! Illusion wouldn't make something like this otherwise!”
The first Divine item—a divine sword. In my hands wasn't just an item; it was a new world that would reshape my future.
Attack Power: 182(+109)
Strength +10(+6), Agility +10(+6)
5%(+6%) chance on hit: Attack vital spot
1%(+6%) chance on guard: Nullify physical attack
The favored dagger of the Calquera Thieves, scourge of Viscount Torres's lands.
I opened my equipment window and compared it to my main weapon, stuck at safe enhancement levels.
Next to Rune Paytona, this wasn't just squid-level—it was straight-up trash.
“I lost this dagger twice enhancing it, scraped by in parties just to get by... Even accounting for the grade difference, this gap is ridiculous, right?”
There was a difference between longswords and daggers, sure, but a +6 Rare was barely a tenth of an unenhanced Divine. Plus all-stats boost, bonus attribute damage, extra magic damage—the effective attack power had to be over 20 times higher, easy.
That meant any same-level DPS or mage without high defense or defensive skills? One-shot, two or three at most.
“Even if a Legendary weapon got enhanced dozens of times—which it couldn't— it wouldn't touch this insane attack power……”
Everything had limits. No one among Tayen's ten million players would accept getting one- or two-shot by another player.
This was beyond broken—it was overkill.
“All-stats up is one thing, but +1 to all skill levels? Is that even a real option?”
No item—not even Legendary—had ever boosted skill levels. This sword revealed one existed, and it might scale with enhancements too.
This wasn't balance-breaking; it was an item from another game.
“No, the most OP might be this last one: ‘Titan summon.’”
Touching the exclamation mark on the option popped up the titan quest window.
Luitus Summon (Sealed)
To unseal, visit the pope(!) at Runmon(!), holy site of the god of light Luiton, while holding Rune Paytona.
Titans. The in-game term for rideable mech suits. In the PC Titan Age, famous streamers were mostly titan riders, streaming solo rampages.
They hadn't appeared in VR Tayen yet, but with the game's name being Titan Chronicles, it was inevitable. Every player was dying for it.
“And the bonus ‘durability blessing’ at the end. Common to all Divine-grade? Or just the 7 Divine Weapons? Either way, at least three safe enhancement attempts guaranteed. Every option is straight-up broken. Makes sense for a divine sword, I guess?”
All weapons and armor capped at +10 enhancement. Safe levels dropped: 8 for Normal, 6 Rare, 4 Unique, 2 Legendary. Higher grades were rarer drops, so high enhancements were tough.
Even top players preferred +10 Rare over low-enhanced Unique. Higher grades had killer options anyway.
But this Divine sword guaranteed three+ tries? The ultimate weapon options.
“It's plastered with broken, broken, BROKEN options. This had to drop years early. Without Darius's insane luck, it wouldn't have appeared until long after Divine-grade reveal!”
Overkill even at level 700+—twice current rankers' levels—it made sense it dropped now, randomly.
I needed to discuss with Hyunjung, so I screenshotted the info and logged out.
“Oh, you're out! How's the divine sword specs?”
“Whoa, chill. I've hit the jackpot……”
Seeing my stiff expression as I sat up from the capsule, Hyunjung sensed something and asked carefully.
“What's up? It's bad? Divine sword sucks? No way.”
“……Opposite, dude. Don't freak. It's too good!”
I showed him the screenshot on the linked PC. He stared at the monitor, speechless for a while.
“Jihwan……”
“Yeah?”
“This isn't photoshopped, right?”
“Dude, you kidding? Does it look fake? I've hit the jackpot for real. What're Taesung gonna do now? ...It's great I found it, but I'd love to crack open the skull of whoever made this balance-wrecker.”
“Nah... Thinking it over, this seems designed to push endgame content.”
“Endgame content?”
What now? A weapon's just a weapon—why call it content?
“Divine-grade items have huge penalties matching their power. Unlike others, they drop at least one on death. Meaning anyone with Divine gear becomes a guaranteed-drop event mob worth more than a field boss.”
“Everyone knows that now.”
“Think, man! What happens? Users hunt Divine owners like bosses! Owners scramble to protect it with allies and tricks. Endless player drama and stories ensue!”
“Ah! Yeah, that could spark user-driven episodes and fun.”
His insight clicked—owning Divine gear meant becoming a walking raid target.
“Exactly. Divine weapons are so rare, even years in, single digits. And if those few get too OP? No biggie. Player levels and gear upgrade over time, and with ten million players, a handful won't break the game.”
“True... Darius got ganged today at home—proves it.”
“People will go nuts over their overwhelming plays, incidents. Snag a dropped Divine? You dream of that power, join raids eagerly.”
Like sports' rare 'fantasy stars' hyping crowds. Top rankers filled that role till now. But Divine items? Devs' new wild card to shake things up.
“Makes sense why enemy guilds allied to assassinate Darius. They knew, even with broadcast backlash. This could really go for 100 billion?”
“Nah, pricing's tricky. Could or couldn't. Death-drop penalty's huge—Tayen's no-death-proof game. And this? No trade or sale.”
“What? No way! Tayen has untradeable items? Even quest items trade!”
“You got hyped and skimmed. Look here—it's clear.”
Checking closely, amid the god-tier options, there it was:
This item cannot be traded or sold.
“Oh my god! Snagged a 100-billion item and can't sell it? For real?!”
Untradeable! Sure, death drops it guaranteed, so you could 'sell' by dying to someone. But for sales, no trade window or auction house—had to meet IRL.
Online? Pay me first, then I die? No one's wiring 100 billion to a stranger.
To sell without trade UI, identity exposure inevitable.
Meet Taesung or alliance? Life in danger—no joke, for a 100-billion item.
“Can't cash via bytecoin? I've soloed—no rich IRL contacts I trust.”
“Straight trades risky... We figured you'd keep it, price too. Gut says no IRL meets unless balls of steel. Remember Taesung's side branch hiring thugs? News hit big.”
“Then non-Taeseong? Rich folks or other guilds would want it.”
“Sure, plenty loaded would pay. Worth it. But if they're Taesung plants or snitch? Any trade risks exposure to bypass no-trade.”
“Yeah... Illusion nailed Divine as endgame.”
Checkmate. I knew money/power made squashing a jobless nobody easy.
Thinking back... not just me—parents at risk too.
Logged out now, chatting leisurely, but game's full of wolves waiting for my whispers.
Talk to them? Useless. Sell safely? No guarantees.
Abandon this massive luck?
Answer clear.
“Hyunjung... I've decided. This divine sword, Rune Paytona—I'm using it.”
Divine sword. Can't sell? I'll wield it myself.
And become untouchable—in game and out.
