Chapter 234: Job Experience Program 4
Since Rhea had taken Lisar with her, only the Married Detective Sister and I were left in the office.
Emily began rummaging through documents, moving magnets and pens across a whiteboard to quickly organize the newly acquired information.
The Sister was working incredibly hard, not having the slightest clue that she would be shipped out elsewhere in a week due to a personnel transfer.
“Yeah, it’s me. It looks like the tail is going to be cut. Even if we catch them, it’ll only be one or two people at the top. Lisar Wintershard came by personally for questioning as a witness. Seeing as she’s sending a lawyer, I guess this is as far as we go. Yeah, no, you did good. A commendation will definitely come out of this. Right, right. Good job. Yeah, no one’s hurt, right? That’s a relief. Seeing as that Lisar person showed up herself, it looks like the ones we caught will take the fall and wrap things up on their end. Yeah, yeah, more importantly... this puts us back at square one.”
Judging by how excitedly she was talking to the dispatch team, she seemed like someone perfectly suited for police work.
“Lisar did come in person, but it wasn’t because she herself had a problem with the case. Yeah, it seems to be related to Senior Superintendent General Degrain. Right, Hindel Dun Vurdia. Yeah, yeah, and that Marika Olgaevabich brat. It seems our suspicions were correct. Though the higher-ups won't acknowledge it. Well, what’s the worst they can do? Take my badge?”
I felt like I understood why they were trying to promote Marika or send her to a position where she could be promoted instead of letting her do dirty work.
“For now, let’s start the investigation with all the materials we’ve gathered. The Prosecutor gave us the stamp before leaving, so yeah, call in all the kids on stakeout too. Even if we can’t reach Lisar, we can at least smack down the ones three or four levels below her. Don’t be scared. We have to act like mad dogs so they won’t dare touch us. Right, right. Then go grab the initial informant immediately. Yeah, the banker. The one who got demoted. Apparently, he’s an accomplice too. It seems he got kicked out while trying to keep all the profit for himself.”
I wasn't sure exactly what Lisar had said, but the story of that investigation sounded like it would be interesting too.
“Auntie has something urgent to take care of right now, so you have to stay right here, okay? Got it? I’ll send someone for you! You can play games on that computer over there! Oh, here...! This is pocket money from Auntie, so it’s a secret from your mom and the Prosecutor, okay?”
Emily pressed all the bills in her wallet into my hand and rushed out of the office.
I could indirectly see how Rhea was treated. They clearly treated her well, but it felt like they viewed her as a bit of a dummy younger sister.
I do like games, but since I find it more fun to plow female holes and make them do all sorts of cute things, I didn't really want to play by myself in the office.
Even though they were in different departments, it seemed my mom was just as famous among the police as my grandma. It might be natural for people to be interested when the daughter of Rune Cal Degrain—a war criminal... no, a national hero currently imprisoned—is working as a high-ranking civil servant!
Anyway, just as I was about to step out of the office to look around, I saw a group of children heading somewhere together. Unable to overcome my curiosity, I followed them from a short distance.
“I told you that you have to stay together during mealtime, didn't I? Come on, hurry up and follow them.”
“Huh?”
An anonymous Police Sister began gently pushing my back.
“The police meals are really good, you’ll like them too. Now, go on, follow your friends.”
“No, wait...”
“The Chief even prepared a special meal... and dessert, so if you’re late, your friends might take yours!”
“Excuse me, Teacher? You see, I’m...”
“Does our little friend here hate pudding?”
“I just have to join that group, right?”
There was no helping it then. I had no choice but to follow the girls.
***
The meal was excellent. There was plenty of bread, meat, and vegetables. They had hollowed out the bread to put in stew, and the crust could be eaten with meat and vegetables stuffed inside.
Seeing the regular Police Sisters eating without complaint, it seemed the treatment of these police aunties was quite good.
On top of that...
“Does our little friend like pudding?”
“Yes!!!”
I acted cute for the cafeteria lady and got four puddings, which I was happily devouring. Then, as other Police Sisters passed by, they each handed me one, so I ended up eating ten.
In case anyone is worried about me getting an upset stomach or feeling bloated, let me tell you: my body has a high caloric demand from dealing with all those female bitches. When I spend the whole day in a sticky, private Mating Play with my mom, I eat five meals a day, so I’m sturdy enough that you don’t need to worry.
For the record, my personal best was seven meals in one day while rolling around with Alicia and Aoi in a 3P session, eating whatever they fed me. So, this much of a snack was perfectly manageable.
As I walked out patting my stomach after the meal...
“Everyone was waiting because of you!!!”
A brat slightly taller than me barked at me.
“Follow us!!! Everyone is exhausted from waiting out in the scorching sun!”
It seemed these guys didn't even do a proper head count.
“...It’s fine to take your time eating, but I’d appreciate it if you’d hurry a little during the job experience period.”
The Sister who had pushed me into this group of brats by dangling the wickedly tempting bait of pudding seemed to be the supervisor.
Isn't a head count the most basic of basics? An insult about this Absolute Garbage-Tier supervisor almost reached the tip of my tongue, but I held it back.
If things went well, I might be able to observe in detail what the other kids were doing in their job experience training. We lined up in a row in front of the police station.
“Out of a total of 62, we have 58.... Hmm? I heard there were five, but I guess there were only four.”
“Alright, from here to here, you’ll be working the afternoon shift with the traffic police Sisters. From here to here, you’ll be office assistants. And from here to here, you’ll ride in patrol cars. Finally, from here to here, you’ll be cleaning the holding cells and various facilities!”
It looked like I’d be playing with the traffic police Sisters. I was glad I didn't get stuck with cleaning. As I was following the front line, someone grabbed my shoulder.
“It might be dangerous for a boy. I’ll let you experience something else. Follow that Sister over there, okay?”
The supervisor Sister tossed me over to another Police Sister and began distributing the kids for patrol car duty.
About four other kids, excluding me, began gathering one by one with other Police Sisters.
“Alright, you little friends can just clean this office here. Tell the Sisters when you’re finished, okay~?”
It was nice that they were being considerate of males, but the space was quite cramped for five people to be shoved in for cleaning. It was a breakroom, but it was the kind of size where I could finish a session of sex in under 20 minutes if I put my mind to it.
“Why do we have to do this?”
While I was diligently sweeping, a boy holding a mop started getting cranky.
“Everyone else is working hard outside, so we can at least do this, right? Let’s just finish quickly and rest.”
I might be a kid on the outside, but my mind wasn't, so soothing a few children wasn't difficult.
“Who’s working hard? The kids with the right parents are playing around doing nothing.”
“Calm down, the other kids are cleaning too. Don’t be so angry.”
“Aren't you here because your mom is a Cripple too? No connections, no power.”
“I think that’s a bit much. Apologize first. Then I’ll let it slide.”
The brat stepped toward me and glared, trying to intimidate me. We were about the same height, but he was bulky. It wasn't muscle, though; it felt more like he was pumped up with a lot of fat.
“Why should I?”
It seemed the brat was picking a fight because he didn't know who I was. He probably wanted to show off that he had a temper, but unfortunately, I wasn't the type to let every little thing slide.
First, I struck his Adam's apple.
“Ack...!”
He didn't seem to have any martial arts training. Well, even if he did, unless they were girls, there were no boys this age who could use mana, so it was only natural he couldn't react.
“Did I look like a push-over just because I was talking to you with a smile?”
“Kehek... ack... ack...!”
I didn't even hit him that hard. Power control is essential for those who learn martial arts, so it was almost comical to see him acting like he was dying when I’d only given him a light warning blow.
It seemed he hadn't been hit much at home. Or rather, a more accurate deduction would be that he hadn't received any "pre-emptive" Date Education yet since he was still young.
First, I stuffed the mop he had dropped on the floor into his mouth.
“Mmph...! Ptooey...!”
“Your mouth is like a rag anyway, so why not keep it in? What’s wrong?”
“You, you...!”
The brat glared at me. However, he couldn't hide the fear in his eyes, so it wasn't even a threat.
“Hey, don’t just stand there watching. Clean.”
The boys who were watching hurriedly resumed their sweeping and mopping.
“I’ll let it go if you apologize, since you probably don’t know who I am.”
“...I’m gonna kill you.”
The brat was persistent. To be honest, it would be nothing to beat him a few more times and break his will, but I didn't want to cause trouble at my mom’s workplace.
I swung my hand toward the crown of his head, mixing in a bit of mana.
—Thwack!
“Guegh!”
My power control was perfect. I was almost frightened by my own talent for knocking him out in one blow with the perfect amount of force—not enough to crack his skull or cause a concussion.
The kids who were cleaning all looked at me.
“Guys. This fellow was so sleepy he just fell right asleep. What a naughty friend, right?”
When I raised my fist and glanced around, all the boys agreed. Through a democratic process, the situation was concluded: he hadn't been hit by me, but had simply fallen asleep while cleaning because he was tired.
After finishing the cleaning, I had some time to talk with the other boys.
“So, what was that guy talking about? The 'kids with good parents'?”
“Oh, that...”
A timid-looking boy explained it to me.
Apparently, there were kids who didn't do any work during the job experience program and just played around while writing their reports. They would turn in incredibly professional reports, and rumor had it that people currently working in those professions were ghostwriting them.
It sounded like something I’d heard somewhere before.
“Are there many of them?”
“I heard there are five in this group. They don't even care when they do the head count.”
The puzzle pieces were starting to fit together. Still, it was a sad thing that these little brats were already learning the bitterness of society, talking about their parents' connections and whatnot.
It was frightening to think what these children of another world—already being discriminated against and growing up "tough" in a place that wasn't even the military—would become when they grew up.
