Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Let’s Have a Drink
Melaim turned to Tanya, who had raised her hand.
“Why?”
Tanya looked unusually cheerful as she made her suggestion.
“Why don’t we just use it right away?”
Ha.
For someone to be revived, someone has to die first.
Tanya didn’t seem to understand that fact.
…No, that can’t be it.
There’s no way she’s suggesting we kill someone just to revive them for fun.
Using a sacred artifact like that would probably earn divine punishment in the form of lightning bolts.
Yuna seemed to think the same thing and stared at Tanya with a weird expression.
Melaim also frowned.
“Tanya, you swore you would not kill innocent people.”
Hmm… was that the promise she made to me?
Does that even count as a vow?
“I know! That’s not what I meant. Isn’t revival possible as long as there’s a soul?”
“That is correct, as far as I know.”
“Then we can just feed it to Poe, right?”
Huh?
That works?
Well… it wouldn’t be his original body, but it is still a vessel with a soul…
Poe, who had been quietly listening, flinched and spoke up.
“Lady Tanya, did I hear that correctly?”
“Oh, come on. It’s not like we have any use for it anyway.”
“I have never heard of a revival potion being used on an undead. How can you even consider using such a sacred item on one?”
He sounded like a strict priest.
Still, from what he said, Poe also knew about revival potions.
But… can we really give it to him?
Even if it doesn’t work, isn’t it dangerous?
“Isn’t it like a superior version of holy water?”
Poe could turn into ashes, right? Like sizzling and disappearing.
Poe seemed to understand my concern.
“No. It is not. The power within it is creation, while holy water is purification. They are fundamentally different.”
Wow, he’s well-informed.
“But using something sacred on an undead is absurd. And its effect is uncertain at best.”
“Yeah, I know. But so what? If it doesn’t work, we just drink it. That’s expensive water!”
“Tanya!”
Poe rejected the idea firmly.
But then…
“Try it.”
Yuna spoke casually.
Ever since Melaim said it couldn’t be sold, she had lost interest in the potion and was now just stroking the black furball named Pitz.
“Lord…?”
Poe stopped moving.
Tanya smiled brightly and handed him the potion.
Poe closed his eyes tightly.
Then he slowly drank it.
As the liquid entered him, his body began to glow.
Yuna looked slightly uneasy.
“You don’t think something will go wrong, right?”
“I cannot guarantee it.”
Poe’s massive rusted armor clattered and fell away, dissolving into nothing.
“…Huh?”
All four of us were stunned.
The light surrounding Poe began to take human form.
So yes, becoming human was something we had considered.
But what appeared was beyond expectations.
The light faded.
And standing there was someone completely different.
A person.
Logically, this must be Poe.
His eyes were the same.
Same rigid expression. Same unwavering determination.
But everything else…
Long flowing blue hair.
Soft, cherry-colored lips and porcelain skin.
And… prominent curves?
Who are you?
“Was the potion defective…?”
A terrifying Death Knight had turned into a beautiful woman.
Or rather… a terrifying Death Knight had become a normal beautiful woman.
She touched her face and frowned slightly.
“…Ah.”
Wow. Even her voice is beautiful.
The harsh, eerie undead voice was gone completely.
This feels… strangely wrong.
Yuna stared at her in shock.
“You were a girl?!”
“Yes…”
The blue-haired knight—Poe—spoke awkwardly.
“Forgive me, but I would appreciate it if you stopped staring.”
“Ah! S-sorry!”
I quickly turned away.
Melaim approached her.
“I suppose this will do.”
“Lady Melaim… thank you, but why this form…?”
“You look good.”
“I see. Thank you, my lord.”
What are they even talking about?
“Luka, you may turn around now.”
“Okay.”
I looked back.
She was now wearing a blue dress matching her hair.
I stared for a moment before asking Melaim.
“You made that?”
“Yes. But it will not last long away from me. You should buy proper clothes on the way back.”
I imagined her clothes suddenly disappearing mid-walk and decided buying clothes was absolutely necessary.
“Al! Al!”
Pitz happily ran circles around the now-human Poe.
Poe picked up Pitz, tilted her head, then handed it to Melaim.
Vines extended from Melaim’s body, forming a net.
Yuna placed Pitz inside it.
“We are returning. We failed our original objective, but… we gained something unexpected.”
Unexpected gain.
Which one?
Pitz the puppy?
Or Poe the blue knight?
Poe stepped toward Yuna.
“I will escort you, my lord.”
She knelt, offering her back for Yuna to ride.
Yuna stared at her silently.
“…I’ll walk.”
Poe looked slightly disappointed.
…
We returned to the Kaite Count’s territory.
We had checked my aptitude at the church in Ingta Barony, but as expected, nothing new appeared.
Honestly, I was a little disappointed.
I had hoped for something unusual after bringing home a dungeon boss as a pet.
By the time we arrived, it was already late.
Yuna looked like she could collapse at any moment.
So did Poe, the blue-haired knight walking beside her.
“Are you tired?”
“Yes… I now feel fatigue.”
I smiled.
“It must feel strange after not feeling it for so long.”
“Yes. It is quite unfamiliar.”
Melaim gave a faint bitter smile.
We reached the mansion.
Tanya opened the door.
Yuna shut her eyes tightly.
“The house is a mess!”
“Al! Al!”
Pitz barked happily in agreement.
Yeah… that’s fair.
We hadn’t cleaned at all.
Even though I trained by occasionally cleaning the floor, that was about it.
Dust had simply… accumulated.
Yuna sighed deeply.
“Tomorrow… we clean everything. I’m too tired now.”
She leaned against Poe, who supported her.
“I will take you to your room.”
“…You should sleep in my room too.”
“Pardon?”
“There’s no extra bed.”
“…Understood.”
Poe accepted reluctantly.
She could no longer be recalled as a summon.
Even commands didn’t work anymore.
In other words, Poe was no longer a summoned servant.
She had become human.
I asked Melaim.
“Can monsters become human?”
“I would like to think so.”
Poe still called Yuna “my lord,” so not much changed.
Just slightly inconvenient.
Yuna also lost the ability to buff her through the orb.
More people had suddenly joined us.
Good thing we bought a big house.
Cleaning will be troublesome, though.
Poe carried Yuna elegantly.
“I will retire first.”
We nodded.
Tanya waved.
I turned to the others.
“What about this puppy?”
“Pitz!”
“Right. What about Pitz?”
“I’ll take it.”
Tanya lifted Pitz.
Pitz happily panted at first, then suddenly froze in her arms.
Something instinctive seemed to kick in.
Melaim seemed satisfied.
“Then leave it to Tanya for tonight. We will build it a house tomorrow.”
“Who might take it?”
“I do not sleep, so unlikely. Still, a leash with good flexibility might be necessary.”
A thief skilled enough to steal a monster puppy under Melaim and Tanya’s watch?
Unlikely.
But a leash wouldn’t hurt.
“Then tomorrow we register Poe as an adventurer and buy a leash. And a bed.”
“Yes. If not custom-made, it will arrive by evening.”
Right.
Tomorrow’s tasks are clear.
Cleaning. Poe’s registration. Shopping.
For once… it might actually be a peaceful day.
