Chapter 54: Returning to the Dorm
By the time I saw Quan Xiuzhu off, it was already quite late.
For the first time, I realized that taking the initiative to help someone could be so exhausting, though I certainly got to see plenty of the drama.
In the end, she still wouldn't let me walk her all the way back. I had actually wanted to see if she had any roommates; my massive villa was completely empty, and thinking about it now, it felt a little lonely.
Still, I managed to remember Quan Xiuzhu’s address: No. 18, 22nd Block.
If I ever find myself with nowhere to go, I figure I could drop by and hang out with her. Though, my personal impression is that she isn't really the type who enjoys going out.
Then again, neither am I. I’m just trying to make some changes for myself in this new environment—like going out alone, walking into unfamiliar places, or taking the initiative to make a friend.
Sometimes, if you hate something, you have to face it head-on; otherwise, you’ll just end up living in a world of your own making.
Of course, speaking of making friends, Quan Xiuzhu doesn't quite count yet. If I had to put a label on it, maybe a "quasi-friend"?
After all, I have a set of criteria for friends that even I’m not entirely clear on. I suppose I just leave it to fate.
My relationship with Quan Xiuzhu seems to be... the kind where I just watch the show? Maybe after we’ve spent more time together, we’ll become official friends.
But that’s a matter for the future.
Reflecting on the day's end, however, there was one thing I found regrettable.
Even though Sister Bai helped me bind my student card, I have no idea how to help others bind theirs. All I could do was urge Quan Xiuzhu not to lose hers.
Then there was Quan Xiuzhu’s awakening talent... I’m not sure if it was just my imagination, but her talent didn't seem to manifest as a physical object. I wasn't in a position to pry, though.
I just felt like she changed somehow after her talent awakened, but I couldn't put my finger on exactly how.
It’s probably an embarrassing talent. She seemed very reluctant to bring it up. Of course, there’s also the possibility it’s some kind of heaven-defying ability?
In any case, it’s bound to be more useful than the [Transcendent Knowledge] I have that I can't even use yet.
When I returned to my dorm, the house was still empty. I truly hoped my roommate would be like Quan Xiuzhu—escorted back to the dorm by some kindhearted senior sister.
Then they could give me a surprise. To be honest, I don't even care if my roommate is a boy or a girl anymore; just having someone to talk to would be nice, even if they’re as quiet as Quan Xiuzhu.
Living in such a huge villa all by myself is honestly quite hollow.
Once inside, I didn't see the Little Ox-Horse wandering over to greet me. But that made sense; I had told it not to waste mana.
I suddenly regretted saying that.
But then I thought about the remaining 300-odd points of mana and how long that would have to last, so I suppressed the thought. Instead of charging the Little Ox-Horse, I’d rather charge my phone. I have to say, the charge Sister Bai gave it has lasted until now—it’s incredibly durable.
Unfortunately, at my current stage, my mental power isn't strong enough to let me manipulate mana at will.
Because of my meditation, I can now feel the existence of my mental power, but it’s not yet enough to let me grasp transcendent energy.
If I really want to use transcendent power as I please, I’ll probably need that Witch Meditation Method the senior sister mentioned.
I’m really curious about the difference between a Witch Meditation Method and the meditation theory they taught back at my old school.
It’s probably a huge difference. After all, transcendent power is transcendent power, and a person is a person. To create a link between the two, mental power is likely the bridge. Therefore, the meditation method must be the key.
In the world outside, the monopoly on meditation methods is enough to cut off everyone’s path to the transcendent.
Fortunately, I’ve already entered a Transcendent Academy. I wonder if I can get an early look at some transcendent-related knowledge?
It should be possible.
Tomorrow, I’ll ask the senior sisters at the bakery. They should be more than willing to clear up my confusion.
Besides, haven't I already touched the transcendent?
I have the Cleaning Spell, after all!
Even if this kind of "transcendent" isn't exactly what I was hoping for.
It’s like I’m holding a finished firearm; a spell in a spell slot is just like that weapon. The senior sister was right—it’s just a tool I’ve mastered, but that doesn't mean I’ve truly touched the real transcendent world.
I want to learn the principles behind it. I want to experience the beauty within, even if it’s tedious or boring. At least I would have pursued it, rather than just being a stupid spell turret that only knows how to fire high-powered spells.
Then again, if I lower my standards a bit, being a spell turret with explosive damage wouldn't be so bad, right?
But the prerequisite for that is having such terrifying spells in the first place. How could a nobody like me, with no background and no money, ever get my hands on spells like that?
A little nobody like me can be happy for ages just getting a Cleaning Spell. There probably isn't another freshman in the entire academy as easily satisfied as I am.
I really don't know why the academy reached out to recruit me.
But thinking that way isn't right either. I’m someone worth competing for, too.
Didn't that guy from the Lesser Demon Academy have his eyes on me?
Thinking about it that way, I’m actually quite competitive. I’m a high-end existence known as a "Natural Spirit Visionary." I shouldn't be so self-deprecating; I need to show a bit of that transmigrator's sense of superiority.
I don't have a transmigrator's "cheat" system, so if my mindset is also poor, there’s really nothing that can help me.
I’m so jealous of those people who get a system the moment they transmigrate—they just start off dominating everything. I’m not that obsessed with power, but that doesn't stop me from being envious.
And me?
All I have is a phone issued by the academy and my personal data formed from Ley Line Information that I don't even fully understand.
I guess it counts as half a library system?
While charging my phone, I opened my personal data.
[Name: Yang Yuehan]
[Gender: Female (Witch)]
[Race: Human (Pre-Witch)]
[Talent: Spirit Vision (Floating World), Unparsed Transcendent Knowledge]
[Identity: Freshman of the 1145th Class of the Witch Academy]
[Mana Source: 1/1]
[Physical Data: (Expand to view)]
[Spell Slot: Cleaning Spell]
[Skills: Theoretical Meditation, Basic Main World Common Language, Basic Spell Theory, Basic Elemental Theory...]
[Tasks: Red Velvet Bakery Part-time Employee · Clock-in (In Progress)]
Compared to before, a "Spell Slot" had appeared in the information. Although I can't usually feel it and only see it when checking my data, the change in the "Tasks" section surprised me.
It seems this data display can also serve as a memo pad. It even generated a task for my part-time job. That’s actually quite convenient.
